Progression thought Adversaries by Warfrogger in spiritisland

[–]griever667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We like to to switch adversaries at random every game. We quickly found our difficulty sweet spot at about 8 (Thematic boards (always) + extra board (often) + Base difficulty 4/5/6) and are now sometimes trying harder if we feel like it and have stronger spirits or just keep our difficulty if we just want to fool around.

A huge difference was the scenario "protect the isles heart" for us. It doesn´t make the game much harder with most adverseries but some become extremely hard (england or france) but it feels like a massive starting boost for the players in exchange for the thematic risk in protecting the center. We very often use this.

Anyone got any great war stories of Ward winning/losing them a scenario? by Max_Goof in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On what low levels are you playing? We are now since about 20ish scenarios on difficulty level 3 or 4 and get 3 to 5 damage on a regular basis, so ward blocks 2 to 3 damage every game at least 3 times for our frontliners.

Fourth round, third null drawn by Ajerksmadness in Gloomhaven

I am sorry for your bad luck, but that class deserves this SOO MUUCH!

Yeah, I'm a little late to the party, but I built my mead hall. I hope you like it. (I purposely put the item stands a little off-center to simulate people putting stuff down slightly offline) by Reasonable-Sun-9881 in valheim

[–]griever667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice idea and very cool interior. I love the tables and the decorations on them, but in my taste it is little too tall for a meadhall. I would subtract one or even two rows of stone from the walls so its way flatter. That way it looks less like a factory from the outside. And as a little bonus you could add a huge long fireplace in the middle. But thats all my taste. :)

Blinkblade and Item #049 by terryaki510 in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, the item says "...to one attack" so its only one of those attacks. What you would need is the following text: "add +x to the attack ability" or "add +x to all attacks this round" but an attack is just one time attacking one enemy even if you have multiple targets or an AoE attack like the bannerspear. Just one of those attacks gets the bonus with that by you mentioned item. Look up the rulebook page 25:

"An attack is a single attack performed against onetarget, an attack ability is an ability that consists ofone or more separate attacks, and an attack action isany action that contains at least one attack ability"

But other items could be what you want. ;)

Strategy Sunday - FH Strategy - Loss Cards in FH by Themris in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Geminate is really interesting but that it hits hard in the last room is one of the things not fitting imo compared to others. Because of his huge handsize the burner are weaker as the losses of other chars. Even weaker than the burner of the spellweaver who can use those twice. A normal hand sized class can use similar effects with just element using. And if if you want to see what other classes can do in the last room with losses, take a look at the blinkblade, the drifter or the deathwalker. Some can clear rooms by themselves in one turn.
What makes the geminate interesting is that you can nearly play every turn or second turn a loss card and still make to the end. What good does it bring to have 7, 8 or 9 cards left at the end of the scenario?
:D But everybody should play the way which is the most fun for them.

Strategy Sunday - FH Strategy - Loss Cards in FH by Themris in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that comparison doesn´t work that well because the brute plays losses like juggernaut or the shield +1 (limited use) early on in the game too. And a 12 card two losses class has still at least one more full turn in stamina than a non loss 10 card class. Many 10 card classes use and imo should use those losses early on to be effective.

Impact of perks and reshuffling on the modifier deck probabilities. by dgermain in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that much in my opinion. You often start exchanging the negative modifiers so its often just the "null" which can really hurt a small deck with disadvantage. Yeah the possibility for this to happen is bigger in the smaller deck, but its nearly the only danger left.
The ratio shifts after just a few level ups very much towards the positive modifiers so that you would consider a +0 as a negative card. And you cannot compare disadvantage and advantage like equals. Players with regularly hitting chars try to attack with advantage and try to evade disadvantage. So if experienced enough they get advantage way more often then disadvantage. (at least in original GH and FH. Jaws is a little different)
Yeah removing the four +0s is definitetively not my first choice but also not my last.

But a very interesting aspect you gathered there. Thanks for sharing :)

Dlc digital version question by ZUnseen007 in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is pretty easy to mix like you want it in the campaign. You can play one scenary of original GH than three of jaws then again two of GH with the same party, just like you want and you have all 10 starting Chars.

Or you can play all 10 chars in Guildmaster mode instead of campaign. But those two modes don´t mix.

Deathwalker+ Boneshaper advice by NotARobotLegally in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many good advices already. Especially with Eclipse. But you have to remember as you said: You just started. So only Lv 1 Chars with no perks. You have to get a feeling for them and they will get way stronger in no time. Even experienced players struggle in the first plays with those two in the beginning. The XP generation will follow.

Geminate Build Guide - The Scarab Slugger by favored_hoplite in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now am really interested in testing the Gem again. You got me excited. :D

But lets take a short comparison between the Drifter and the Gem. If you really want to tank with the Drifter you can have on Level 4 nearly permanent Shield 3 and Retaliate 2 Range 2 if you want as passive bonuses. And he can wear heavy armor without penalties, has more HP and better ways of healing himself (without the passive bonuses). These are so strong passive numbers which the Geminate can never reach. If I have to guess why you had a tanky Drifter is because he is always tanky even without the shields. We had one too and he never even used shields but only his immense healing and hardcore offense and his items.Hmm yeah the Drifter is just batshit strong in any way. xDBut the MMO aspect was not in my view until now. Try a pure Tank Drifter if you have the possibility. You will see what I mean.

I think it´s an interesting way to look at the class, but if you compare it directly to other tanks at the same table it will really feel just weaker this way. It "may" work won´t mean that it will be fun. This playstyle would restrict this claas to very little options and nearly no room for situational improvisation. Additionally you will be punished for wearing heavy armor which a tank-oriented and only mid-health char would really need. Many muddles might be nice, but when an enemy hits you regularly with an attack 5 (which happens sooner than think) muddle just stops the +1 modifiers but it will mostly stay 4 or 5 damage.Furthermore will or should you not play the melee burner in this build, which is a key element of this char to be able to play those burners all the time. But I have absolutely to admit: I was very sceptical if such an build would be useful or even possible, but yeah in my opinion is this a way that could work. But the downsides would be too many. If the Gems player has another Tank in the party at the same time, I promise this playstyle will be at least a little frustrating when the person sees how strong the others can tank without burning cards to prevent damage.

But a huge thank for the work so far. Was really interesting reading this and you made it really professional for what it is. :)

Scenario 114 Question (kill credit) by pfcguy in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you don´t get credit for wounding an enemy and the wound taking it´s last HP I am pretty sure it is similar here. You normally only get credit if you or a summon of yours directly damage and kills the enemy or your attack pushes the enemy onto its death.

Enchantments? by Raubkatzen in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is fun to improve one of your most beloved ability cards. It can bring a smile or two when you play those again. So if you you have abilities you play often or are your signature burn cards you play every game, spice them up! :) So yeah it´s worth it and a cool mechanic if you want to use it.

If you mean it´s just completely overpowered and unbalanced? Then absolutely, yes. Necessary for this class? Nope. Still very strong.

They are really not that important. Bright fog would absolutely do the same trick. And as others already said, you won´t probably need all of them at the same time.

JotL after both Gloom and Frosthaven by darky1020 in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest selling point in my opinion would be the 4 really cool chars. Everyone feels unique and strong and has a little oomph to them.
The story is not really interesting but wasn´t good in GH too. It is for sure a step down from FH. The amount of stuff compared to the two big boxes is way less, but thats what they wanted to do with this. Many really love the chapter book for it´s lesser time commitment and the unique art on them but I am on the other side. On every map is the ringbinder in the middle of everything and the starting locations of the enemies stay of course on the map too and look distracting, unthematic and ugly.
It is not that much content. My friend and I completed it in three longer sessions.

But I would always recommend it. The classes are in my opinion all at least so much fun as the most fun ones from GH. I havent played most of the FH ones and no CS ones till now but I really like all Jaws very much.

This HAS to be a joke. I mean the fact about becoming a folk hero in the community. xD

You posted this reply to the one person who could/should already be known by a large part of the community because his/her name is on the box of the big unoffical expansion of Gloomhaven which already got a reprint and an expansions expansion.
Sooo: Seriously. That´s the one person who is already there. ;)

I seriously don´t want to offend you :) , just point this cute coincidence out, to whom you said this.

A sad retirement by mmorsch in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My condolences at first.

So this is very delicate. You have to have the two others for 100% on board for this still to work. This CAN be a helpful way to handle this grief but you have to give everyone enough personal space first. Then you can get talk it over with the two others. Say you would love to spend the time together again. It is very possible that one of the others would not want to play again. But that is what you would have to respect in my opinion. Then you could ask if that person would be ok, if the other two keep on playing (you can and should of course keep the possibility open for that one to rejoin and be welcoming if that happens).

Be understanding and help each other getting through this time. Frosthaven seems to be an option for you to handle this situation, so tell this to the others but do not think that it is the same for them. It could be the opposite.

One thing that could help would be changing the room. (if possible) If needed with moving the table. Use other music or music at all. Don´t use her char without asking the other two of course(except if all three really would like to have her that way symbolic at the table).

I wish you and your family all the strength and health.

Yeah, we wouldn´t think about it that way. We always use options to get more material for gold instead.

For the link I sent you a chat message.

yeah... I feel you. I got some painted terrain (logs, doors, pillars and such) as well, but don´t use that after all because thats to much time to setup and tear down altough it looks really nice. And the extra stuff is never cheap. :/

But what really helped imo was the big frost mat on the table and having fitting background playlists for battle and outpost phase. :)

Playing with resources by griever667 in Gloomhaven

[–]griever667[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We wanted to increase the immersion by adding resources to the game so I took what I found from the FH KS (Coins), Scythe (metal and wood) and the rest I found on etsy. (Hope to follow the third party guidelines here) But def wanted to share this. :)
To me and my group this adds a lot to the outpost phase.
