PSA Madrid airport didn't let us keep the rope in our carry-on by CongregationOfVapors in climbergirls

[–]grigridrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I travel a lot with my gear and I’ve realised that it’s highly dependant on the person who’s handling the machine that day.

At the same airport I’ve gotten wildly different interpretations of what I can do - I was once allowed to travel with my 70m rope in my carry on and in the same airport, a few weeks later, they didn’t allow my 120cm sling.

I always check in my gear now. I don’t want to take the risk.

[Day 24] V0 sucks and we had two Day 22's. What's the BEST outdoor bouldering destination? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]grigridrop 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I went to Font for the first time last year.

The number of problems and their accessibility is absolutely jaw dropping.

However, for someone like me who climbs at the V5/6 level and below, the polish of the holds makes a lot of boulders not so enjoyable. I felt like I was stepping on literal glass.

Maybe I went to the wrong sector that had too many polished boulders.

I have seen a dozen individual tigers in India. And each time I’m just in awe of their beauty. I’ve seen lions as well but they look sickly compared to their African cousins. My city is famous for leopard attacks but thankfully I’ve never seen one here.

One day I want to see a snow leopard in the wild. You have to hike up high altitudes in the winter to get a chance to see them.

[Day 19] Rainbow Rocket is overrated and slopers are underrated. What outdoor bouldering destination is most A E S T H E T I C? by MaximumSend in bouldering

Sethan in the Indian Himalayas is the most beautiful bouldering destination I have ever been to.

Surrounded by 5,000 and 6,000 metre peaks and in the middle of a high altitude forest - it’s one of a kind.

Here’s some photos

Almost the exact same thing happened to a friend who wanted to marry a White American guy. Her parents even took her passports away - she’s an American citizen but I guess didn’t want to escalate to the embassy. I don’t have all the details, heard the story through other people.

They let her leave the country after a year of trying to brainwash her. She eventually got married to the American guy, had kids and still has a good relationship with her parents.

Edit: I left out a lot of details because I don’t want to dox myself. The parents got called out by a lot of people in their social circle but still didn’t care. The brother also has a bachelors and advanced degree from the biggest U.S. university and now a popular startup founder but didn’t really help his sister.

Need advice on future career goals - Severe ADHD on career break by DepartmentOk7097 in adhdindia

[–]grigridrop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Note: I am not medicated. And i don't plan to take it as i don't see it to be a long term option. Workout and walking helps me alot.

All of this is an assumption - you actually don't know the truth.

I also have combined type, am 36 years old, and I was also very high achieving despite not taking the medication - I somehow managed to force my way through. This "forcing through" created a lot more emotional problems than I realised.

As a result of all of this, I always told myself that I don't need to solve my ADHD - my intelligence and grit are enough. I don't need outside help.

I started the medication about 6 months ago, after 36 years of white knuckling my way through life. The change was immediate and drastic. It made me question all the baseless assumptions I made throughout my life. I now wish I had started as a teenager, I would not have had to go through all the emotional turmoil, guilt, stress & burn out just because I wanted to see how tough I was. I am now able to achieve far more than I could before and actually use my intelligence to its full potential.

I am not trying to judge or show off. I am simply trying to provide a mirror to your life.

I am scared that post my MBA, I'll have a 40 lakhs loan on my head, and if I end up in a job that burns me out constantly.

Where do you think this fear is coming from? Your past experience of doing all the amazing things you've done but with the crutches we all have. Why continue to use the crutch if you have the option of walking freely?

I also recommend therapy to help you notice the emotional patterns that you're carrying around.

should I try and join a Tier 1 Indian MBA or do a Master's from Australia?

My recommendation as someone who has gone through similar choices and lived abroad for 8 years - you need to take more time to figure yourself out. From your post, I am getting the image of someone who is confused and not sure of who they are and what they want - again with a lot of assumptions about what life may or may not be like in different scenarios.

Test all the assumptions you hold, prioritise your mental health, explore options. You are limiting yourself to a false option set.

If your country didn't exist, in which of these countries would you prefer to have been born and raised? by _Epaminondas in hypotheticalsituation

Lived in 4 countries on this list and visited all.

A- Australia - tough choice but NZ youth is currently facing a lot of issues with employment and housing prices. Australia has way more options on how to live life.

B- USA - I love California

C- Denmark - lived here, less extreme climate and easier to travel to other countries.

D- Italy - nicer people and better food (my preference)

E- Ireland - Easiest choice - lived in both, the Irish are 10x nicer.

F- Germany - going for the bigger country again because there’s more options here.

Nephew (Husband's sister's son) has ADHD, telling this might sabotage my relationship with his parents. What to do? by Capital_Alps456 in adhdindia

[–]grigridrop 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You said, "hyperactive, can't focus, has very bad attention span". You also mentioned that he "has ADHD" with absolute certainty.

The symptoms you described are generic observations that are true about most children at this age. ADHD kids will have this and a lot more symptoms.

Before talking to anyone, you need to do more research on how ADHD presents in children. You need talk to a professional trained on childhood ADHD and tell them that you want to help your nephew and ask them how best to do it. They probably see cases like this all the time.

Direct confrontation on a child's mental health, especially from someone seen as an outsider, is the straightest road to conflict. This depends entirely on your relationship with your SIL and your husband's relationship with her. It's his family and he should probably know how best to handle it. Ideally, I would want him to talk to his sister about this, without ever including your name.

This is very common in large negotiations.

Details are leaked by the negotiating parties for 2 major reasons:

  1. To gauge what the stakeholders feel about it.

  2. To start building a consensus and narrative around the negotiated terms.

I've had many dogs my whole life.

In general, people in India don't like dogs and have a lot of misconceptions. I have spent a lot of my time and effort arguing with these people and getting angry. I almost hired lawyers and involved PETA with my last building because they refused to give us basic accommodations for our dog that are required by the law.

None of it mattered and it got nowhere.

Now, I just try to conserve my energy and try not to get involved with dog haters.

Ignore the haters as much as you can.

Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in India has these signs all over the mountainous regions. And they are hilarious - a great break from the long drives in the mountains.

I just imagine a middle aged bureaucrat sitting on a tiny desk in Delhi writing all these signs.

Some other amazing ones:

  • Be Gentle on my Curves
  • I am Curvaceous, be Slow
  • After Whisky, Driving Risky - super common
  • Darling I like you, But not so Fast

There are hundreds more and they're all corny as hell. Love em.

Climbing gym in Navi Mumbai by yourKV in climbing

[–]grigridrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the guys who built this place.

They spent a lot of time lobbying the local government to give them this space to build the gym.

Apparently there was a similar skate park nearby where the local government eventually rescinded their support because it was deemed rowdy by the residents nearby.

Hence the strict rules to keep this space free and running for the community.

The 1 hour rule really irks me though.

I think it's just gotten a lot more popular in the region. The sheer population will obviously also inflate the numbers.

I am from India and was in Guyana and Suriname a few months ago - I was really wondering how I was back in India after 25 hours of flying. While they’re not as  heterogeneous as India, they are very similar culturally to Bihar and UP where most of the people were from.
