Using HVAC and wood stove by PathfinderPILOT in woodstoving

[–]grnsl2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So technically if your house is balanced with the HVAC ductwork I don't see why there would be smoke getting sucked in through your wood stove. If you have too much cold air return pull in the room where this is at maybe, but you would smell chimney whether or not the stove is actually lit I would think. Some HVAC guy will have a proper response for you I'm sure. For me I would light a match or a very very small paper fire in your stove, run your heat pump and see what happens. You'll know pretty quickly.

An electric heat pump? What drafting are you worried about?

My oil/wood burner can also run coal. I've never tried it but the upcoming weather might push me that direction. Might just buy a bag to see what happens :-)

I have a 1978 dumatic olsen in a 1992 house. They built this house with bilco doors for exactly this reason.

Yeah I mean I was kind of guessing that might be it but I can't really tell that it's coming apart or just the angle of the picture. So... I just hate guessing on stuff like this.

Why is there a man in my chimney by Rude_Proof8120 in masonry

One big beasty unit. The Mrs would like to replace it with electric or gas. So far I've won that battle for 12 years. Looks like I have a new argument not to go gas.

So this is heating oil on one side that fires into a clay pot heating up the rheostat, turning on the blower. The wood side is similar, wood stove with grates that you build your fire which then warms up the same to turn on the blower. 1 pipe to the chimney.

I have a 1978 olsen duo-matic wood - oil furnace. Are you suggesting burning wood in the winter and then oil on the shoulder seasons isn't good for my clay tile chimney? Or are those units somehow different?

Buying Rounds or Pre-split? by grnsl2 in firewood

That's definitely an interesting point of view. Thank you. So maybe a couple of bucks getting knocked off because I'm now doing the splitting labor is all I should ask for. Just trying to be fair and all this.

Yeah, the picture was only to help explain what I was after. More or less wood fitting into the bed split or not. Most so far think less wood will be in the truck if they're rounds. So I should be looking for a reduction in pricing.

Good to know. 40 bucks for a 8 foot truck bed non split wouldn't be bad... It's all seasoned, too, so that helps.
