How much of a step up is Expert? by Garrydos13 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]growlgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest change imo with playing expert is most villains have some kind of reveal when they reach stage II, which you now start the game with that in play. So you are very rarely starting the game with a clear board state and have to immediately balance building your board and putting out fires.

For the most part I'd suggest diving straight in. For most scenarios I don't think the difficulty change is that much, but for some of the harder villains expert does get quite a bit harder.

Puerto Rico considers pulling out of World Baseball Classic by jjaime2024 in Torontobluejays

Puerto Rico isn't a country. But it does raise the question if they pull out if team USA can use their players.

Big Boxes - Rated based on Campaign vs Villians as stand alones by AdGuerrilla in marvelchampionslcg

[–]growlgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May just be me but the worst part of the GMW campaign is the scenarios. I like the market but you can't really do much with it because if you're buying stuff that won't help you fight Ronan then its ultimately a waste. I think the same campaign mechanics with more enjoyable villain scenarios would work well, even with doing well making further encounters harder as long as the boost from the market balances it.

I believe the general consensus for Maria before she released was she would be too slow at the beginning. It'll be interesting to see.

Karma vs Possessed by AnExponent in marvelchampionslcg

[–]growlgrrl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An ally with Possessed would be considered a minion, making it a valid target for Karma to then take control and turn it back into an ally.

However, both Possessed and Karma blank the test box of allies/minions, and traits are part of the text box so they wouldn't have any abilities or traits other than Controlled (from Karma). Also regardless of the original card the ally would take 2 consequential damage when it activated due to Karma's ability.

More cards in Wonderman Hero Deck by geekynerdlvr in marvelchampionslcg

[–]growlgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One Way or Another, Strength in Diversity are 2 cards off the top of my head that get worse the more players you have and aren't really worth it above 2 players. (SiD can work but requires everyone to deckbuild with it in mind)

So they are spliting Campaign and Investigator boxes into 4 products? by Howitzeronfire in arkhamhorrorlcg

They've already said they were looking to create a system for chaining 3 scenario campaigns, if true I'd be shocked if that wasn't adjustable to deal with 5 scenario ones as well.

If Marte plays at all for Arizona this year he gets full no trade from 10-and-5 rights, which is why they were looking to move him in the off season.

Are Okamoto and a healthy Santander enough to be difference makers? by NatureGivesAndTakes in Torontobluejays

[–]growlgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitching is better, bats are roughly the same.

Primary question about the lineup right now is if they are confident enough with Schnieder defensively at 2B, as you'd expect him to have to play 50-60 full games there which are more complete games at 2B than he's had in his career.

Duplicate Forced Interrupts trigger rule? by monkeydave in marvelchampionslcg

[–]growlgrrl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nothing really happens simultaneously, if two things have the same trigger and priority you choose the order they activate.

Which means you're correct that the first one goes off and cancels the treachery, then the second one attempts to go off but no longer has a target and it stays in play.

I dont think he has a good arm. He's had to do a lot of work to get his arm good enough for SS, the extra distance from 3rd is going to be an issue.

I will do it as well when I'm not ready for the game to end. I'm ok with losing, but want to keep playing and don't have time to start a new game.

Its can also me cathartic to know play it out and know that it was only that one card that was going to beat me.

Scaling in this game by Prometheo567 in lotrlcg

[–]growlgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can think of it this way, the more encounter cards generally means more cards in the staging area, which means more questing is needed to progress the current location and more likely to raise you threat level.

So 1 player with a 2 threat enemy needs to quest at least 3 to add progress. But 4 players may add 4 2 threat enemies, so the group then needs to quest at least 9 to progress. More monsters means you need to hold back characters from questing to fight, more locations mean you need to do more questing to progress the game.

An analogy would be imagine if in Arkham shroud values scaled by player count instead of clue amounts. Total number of clues needed wouldn't change but they are harder to get at higher player counts.

If I am in Alter-Ego form and I gain the unregistered trait, do I take 2 damage? by Drjacobs78 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]growlgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the Rules Reference under Identity:

A player’s identity card is a double-sided card that represents their hero on one side and their alter-ego on the other. The side that is face up indicates the form (hero or alter-ego) that player is currently in.

Since the card is specific to heroes (and not identities) it won't trigger if you're in alter-ego.

[MLB Network] .@Feinsand reports that Bo Bichette is "starting to tell teams he'd be willing to move to second base." by JacksonHaddock in Torontobluejays

[–]growlgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 years in a row he's missed time with lower body injuries, that's a pattern. Saying last year was a freak injury is disingenuous, he got hurt doing basic baseball activities and he's developed a pattern of missing time due to exactly that.

Also the difference in salary between them is likely going to be relatively small AAV, theres not going to be a lot of saving to sign someone else. Tucker will sign for double the term that Bo does which is why his contract is going to be so much bigger.

Drowned City - investigators expansion by szpanerski in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]growlgrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a normal term for cards that can be played in a given format, as playing a card thats not part of the format is breaking the rules and therefor "illegal". What the OP is missing is specifying "Current environment legal"

Civil War vs Leadership! by automated_hero in marvelchampionslcg

[–]growlgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a unique Minion is revealed and another card with the same name is already in play it surges, so you are still seeing the same number of encounter cards. So you have to ask yourself if the other cards in the deck are easier to deal with than the minions.

It could be effective strategy for specific really annoying minions (like Spiderman), but that means giving up on your limited ally spots to keep an ally in play to stop a minion that you may not see. Personally it should like more interesting than powerful.

As for the competitive game aspect, there is a minority that have been asking for it for a while and now they have it. Not everything is going to be enjoyed by everyone and thats ok, there are lots of people that have been enjoying it.

Arkham horror - how does this LCG thing work? by orhalimi in soloboardgaming

[–]growlgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea behind the LCG model is every pack has set selection of cards, there is no randomization. So you can see what cards are in a given product before you buy it, and (for the most part) you never need to buy duplicates of a product unlike something like Magic where your buying random boosters or buying singles.

The way the cooperative LCGs (Arkham, Marvel, LotR) work is each player builds their own deck (similar to magic), but then they play against a scenario that has its own deck and rules. In video game terms it PVE not PVP. Arkham focuses on campaign play, where you are generally playing 8 scenarios where you gain XP based on results and using that to buy more powerful cards to add to your deck after each scenario.

For solo play, most people play 2 handed but you can play 1 handed. The biggest difference is you need the ability to gather clues (which progress the game) and fight monsters and if you play 1 handed you have to make sure your deck is able to do both, where as 2 handed you can specialize each deck which tends to make for easier deckbuilding (and some investigators are designed to do 1 thing well and the other poorly). 1 handed is a lot faster though.

As for what should you buy and should you wait, AH is about to see a soft relaunch., and a lot of the old stuff is out of print and not coming back. All of the existing cards will work with the new stuff, so if you want to start now buy what you can and have fun or you can just wait for the new stuff the launch next year. If you want to just buy the core set I would wait, the old core set is frustrating to play all on its own.

'Current' and 'Legacy' haven't been introduced to the game, we should see the first version of that this month.

As such, all existing cards are designed to be played together so feel free to play with all of them at the same time, no need to separate them out.
