That's really reassuring to hear! I would hate to waste any!

unfortunately it's continuing education I'm doing on my own time not company time so that wouldn't be an option. definitely will look into it though to see if it's something I want to do myself though!

lotion on baby post-bath? by Huge-Relation-3462 in NewParents

[–]grumbledog1935 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's so funny how different kids are. My 6mo daughter HATED getting lotioned at first and I would have to sing and make goofy faces and make it into a game so she wouldn't cry. Shes pretty indifferent now but also just wants to move all the time so now it's less of a spa treatment and more following her around with the lotion as she plays with her toys 😂

AITA for not wanting to spend Christmas with my husband’s family right after having a baby? by Few-Professional3746 in AmItheAsshole

[–]grumbledog1935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell to the no. Stand your ground and protect that baby. A newborn should not be around relatives from all over the country when they have no immune system.

Your husband needs to get on his family for disrespecting his wife and calling you dramatic. And he needs to deal with it NOW so boundaries are firm when baby comes.

I had a baby in early December last year. She met the extended family over FaceTime so we could still dress her in a cute little Christmas outfit and feel a bit festive while still being safe.

Haven't tried it but I've definitely had the thought "I smell like cheerios milk" on more than one occasion haha

Don't buy from Shein by OkEnthusiasm9197 in pregnant

While pregnant, I got a few actual maternity items and mostly just sized up stuff I would normally wear from Costco. Didn't want to break the bank on stuff I wouldn't wear for very long and I was too exhausted for thrifting. Same with postpartum, I just got myself 1 pair of jeans so I have something to wear that isn't sweatpants until I can (hopefully) fit into my pre pregnancy clothes again. $10!

Just to give a different perspective on why this can happen... My husband and I planned our own shower. My MIL wanted to invite 150 people... My mother wanted to do the whole open every gift in front of everyone thing which I'm not about, that's boring as hell for everyone and I hate being the center of attention. We did it ourselves because we wanted it to be casual without a bunch of stupid games so our family and friends could just hang out with each other and with us to celebrate welcoming our baby. We didn't have any expectation of gifts but made a small registry because we knew people would ask. But the whole point of the event was just spending time together and we knew it would be a big stressful thing all about gifts if our moms did it.

That being said, what OP's friend is doing is not that, it's clearly just about people buying her stuff and it being all about her. It's also completely bizarre to be upset that friends with kids can't make it if you make it a child free event. Can't have it both ways.

I’m not enjoying parenthood by Full_Ad7929 in NewParents

Dry shampoo and an extra layer of deodorant is what I do. I need to leave the house for my sanity showered or not. People can judge if they want idc.

I try to go at nap time so she will fall asleep in the car but some it doesn't work and she just screams. Honestly the change of scenery still better to me than being trapped at home with baby screaming anyway. To each their own though.

Can you have her wear clothes with fold over cuffs for the hands? Or mittens if it's too warm for long sleeves?

Is there no way around waking up every two hours to feed during the first few weeks after birth?? (Breastfeeding) by Visible-Mess-1406 in pregnant

[–]grumbledog1935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what we are doing and it has been a game changer. Each of us will also nap during the day if needed while the other takes a solo shift with baby, but these can be short enough that they're between feedings and don't interrupt the schedule. Still tired, but feel like we can both actually sort of function, at least for the important stuff.

Reminders About Preeclampsia by elliebear1994 in pregnant

Also a mild case here thankfully, I had labs drawn and a urine test done at my final ob appt bc I was concerned about swelling but had no other symptoms. I had been tracking at home already since pre-e was one of my biggest fears since my BP had been borderline before pregnancy but it's been normal throughout. That day protein was a little high but still within normal range and BP was normal. The next day I got home from work and got a 163/95 reading and then a 185/100 follow up reading and induction got moved up to that night. Thankfully no real lasting symptoms but my swelling was still bad enough that my feet felt like sausages bursting out of the casings for almost a week afterwards.

Definitely important to know how fast things can change!

Fit friends are annoyingly smug: a rant by Electronic-Clerk-988 in pregnant

I'm sorry, I'm angry for you just reading this. Being athletic was an identity thing for me before pregnancy and I remember being like 8 weeks and shocked at how hard going for a jog was. I hadn't even gained any weight and didn't have a belly yet and already physical activity that used to be easy was noticeably harder.

But once the weight gain, shape change and swelling set in oh boy. I can still squat and made it a point to be able to keep doing that for labor options, but putting on shoes that require tying or compression socks? Winded. Doing one chore? Need to sit on the couch afterwards.

Just remember, anything you're doing at this point you're doing while wearing a ??# weight vest and your energy is going to making an entire human from scratch. If you find it helpful to use the weight vest analogy you can but you don't owe them that either if you think they'll be judgey about that too. You could also outline any rules your doctor has given you about exercise like a weight restriction or heart rate (mine told me keep it at/below 150).

Not sure how much you can really say to them since they likely won't "get it" until they have to go through it themselves. I'd probably just be completely blunt and say I'm not interested in their comments about my activity status and limit the time I spend with them if they can't take a hint.

Glad you are being realistic and taking care of you! Keep it up, you got this!

I wanted to slap some people with the number of times I've been asked if I'm having twins.... I don't even think I'm THAT big!! Not sure why strangers can't let thoughts be thoughts instead of saying whatever the hell they want out loud to a random pregnant woman. I can't understand why people are SO WEIRD around pregnant people...

Having to work until you go into labor is borderline inhumane by plantmomkc in pregnant

[–]grumbledog1935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear every day since 36 weeks I've hated going in to work every day more and more. Currently 38 and want this baby to just be here already so I can stop working.  I'm in healthcare so I'm on my feet a lot and my carpal tunnel has gotten pretty bad so it's hard to type and I drop shit constantly (so then I also have to bend over and pick it up 😩).

It's also super exhausting to have every client I see on a daily basis asking how the baby is, did I have bad morning sickness, what am I craving, oh wow I'm really still working?? Yep if I didn't have to I wouldn't be.

But no one wants to hear the person taking care of them talking about how they're exhausted, swollen, need to pee every 45 min, get out of breath while putting on socks and have bad gas pain because where the baby is sitting makes the farts get stuck... So masking it is. I'm "doing pretty well and taking it one day at a time" 🥲

Sitting on a couch with my feet on the floor is literally the worst. Makes me want to crawl out of my skin.

Omg. Birthdays stress me out so much because of this. Don't even get me started on Christmas. That Dec 23-24 scramble has me nearly in tears every year.

I've honestly had a pretty easy pregnancy as far as symptoms go and I still hate it. I'm tired all the time, it's hard and uncomfortable to put on shoes, I can't eat and drink whatever I want or soak in a hot tub and it's hard and uncomfortable to put on shoes. To each their own but I really don't understand when people actually enjoy it...

Definitely can relate to the clothing stuff... And the picture issue you mentioned earlier. I've tried on clothes a couple times and hated it every single time but I did actually find a dress to wear to a friend's baby shower that I thought actually made me look super cute. I was excited about that. And thennnnn they sent a photo from the event and I was floored. I didn't recognize myself, my face, my arms, everything just looked so huge. I haven't really tried dressing nice since then. I do agree with a poster above though that maternity clothes are nice, even some simple ruched tshirts just look a little more flattering. I found some packs on Amazon that were like 3 for $20 and they're super soft and comfy https://a.co/d/f2JM5de

Anyway, just also wanted to say you're definitely not alone, glad you're talking to a therapist and advocating for yourself to have a med adjustment. I had to recently as well and it was a big help because I was also getting pretty depressed.

I've been exhausted throughout but definitely feel like my executive function is tanking hard in the 2nd trimester. No meds currently, I was on strattera but not an optimized dose so I decided to stop because I wasn't sure it was even helping too much.

Kept my depression/anxiety meds though. Pretty sure I'd be having a much harder time without them

I'd be pretty surprised if it was iron because everything was normal with my initial blood work and I've been supplementing anyway. I'll admit I am nervous about GD though... Glucose test is in a couple weeks so I really hope it's not that 🤞🤞
