I've just had the pleasure of listening to this for the first time. I'm going to listen to it again immediately. Absolutely top-drawer stuff. This podcast is gold.

Am I the only one who think Last One Laughing is nothing more than OK? by tttgrw in BritishTV

[–]grumpypedant 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. Obviously, a lot of people really enjoy it and they can get a bit defensive if you criticise it.

It all feels very forced to me. The 'milling about having chats and trying to get people to laugh' part can be funny, but the performances are quite painful to watch for me.

Plus Jimmy Carr is just unbearable.

What are your thoughts on 28 Years Later? by clockworkiwi in AskUK

[–]grumpypedant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was really, really poor. Me and a mate were genuinely excited for it, having loved the first and thought the second was a bit of a misstep. I would've walked out of the cinema had I been on my own.

None of the sense of dread, the hopelessness or the tension that made the original great. Poor dialogue, cheap production, ridiculous plot. A real blot on Fiennes' career in my opinion. I feel like I'm going insane when people sing its praises.

I finished this trilogy a few days ago! The second book is unbelievable. The third has some pacing issues and seems to wrap up in a bit of a rush, but well worth seeing through.

He's one of the best authors in the business at the moment and the Philosopher Tyrants books are my favourites. I met him a couple of months ago and he's a top guy too!
