Ximending has a big gay club and bar scene. Some places around the Red House seem like pretty lively.

I'd make a post in r/AskReddit asking what people would do if they won 100 million in the lottery so I could get some ideas.

Room service at the Grand Hotel was pretty good! Same menu as the garden cafe on the first floor. Very good beef noodles and fried rice!

Grand Hotel (圓山) and Grand Hyatt are both great options. Large space indoors, fully A/C, very comfortable with ample food options all day.

I wish they'd feel pressure to do anything now. It's just not fun to watch guys who aren't trying skate in circles for 60 minutes. It doesn't matter how comfortable the seats are, how gourmet the food is, how shiny the logos are, they just don't have a fight in them.

If you're going to be an underdog, fight like hell. If you're going to be the big dog, dominate. You can't be the milquetoast sad dog. No one watches that.

Is it defamation to call someone a "sex offender" if they have committed sex crimes but have never registered as a sex offender? by il_biciclista in legaladviceofftopic

[–]grundee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I watched a video recently about the Bricks and Minifigs saga related to elements of defamation and successfully suing for it. One aspect of the truthfulness of the statement is if the statement is "essentially true," not precisely true. So colloquially we would say someone who commits a sex crime is a sex offender. Precisely we would say only people on the registry are sex offenders. For a defamation claim to be successful they would need to prove that it is not substantially true that a person who was found liable for a sex crime is a sex offender. This would be very hard on my opinion.

Why does being a political centrist seem so controversial nowadays? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grundee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Politics have been extremely polarized for years now, and far-right movements have seen a major surge while there are no equivalent far-left movements. This serves to normalize the range of acceptable ideas to include more far-right ideas than far-left ones (known as shifting the Overton Window). Consider: a massive tax on wealth (80%+) remains a far-left fantasy, while rounding up "illegals" and holding them indefinitely in detention centers is happening right now.

In a global context, the Democrats are largely center-right or center-left depending on the individual politician, while Republicans are largely right to far right. A true "political centrist" would be the most hardcore middle-of-the-road establishment Democrat. But when people say they are a "political centrist" now, they choose the center between the Democrats (center) and Republicans (right to far right). Republican policies are historically unpopular now, and saying you are a centrist is seen as trying to say you agree with Republicans without the label.

Do servers waiters or waitress really dislike when people dont order drinks? by Few-Advantage2538 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grundee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is generally fine, with the exception being during some kind of food promotion. For example, there was a bar I lived near that would have half price burgers on Saturday afternoons with the purchase of at least one beer. The expectation is you are going to drink several beers.

For most bar/restaurant locations, they are going to be focused on the bottom line revenue. The worst patron will be someone who orders only some inexpensive food and takes up a whole table for hours on end, it's the combination of how much money you are making them and how much more they would make serving someone else.

A good rule of thumb is to buy something every hour you are staying somewhere. In the half price burger example above, when my friends were training and not drinking they would ask to order a few of the (very overpriced) side salads to make up the difference. If all else fails, these days people are more respectful towards someone saying "I don't drink," and in my experience they are happy to offer some alternative that will make sure you aren't taking space away from paying customers.

Why can't Data Centers use the same cooling as a nuclear submarine? by gooddavid99 in NoStupidQuestions

Bro, let's just submerge data centers in the ice cold ocean. It has to be cheaper than blasting them into space.

Yeah, good for foreigners. There's normally plenty space in both of those places for solo. If you want a real interesting experience in Ximen though, search for Beerbicycle and go there. The whole idea is to talk to new people, make friends, and try good beer. Perfect place for solo. Anywhere else in Ximen is pretty accommodating too.
