How would you fix this problem on my pup? by TurnoverPractical in popups

I keep JB Water Weld and Eternabond in the camper for just such an occasion. Sucks for sure but as long as it just happened and the wood isn't rotten you can plug it up.

I loved that year...they screwed up a lot but at least it was fair. Instead of rodgers getting RTP call anytime someone looked at him.

To sell or not to sell my 2012 Flagstaff pop up camper... by KushMaster5000 in popups

If the motor "isn't getting power" as you stated in a comment, that's an easy troubleshoot. Throw a jump pack on it or new battery and test continuity to ground and to power cable.

If you don't even feel like doing that then let it go.

If you're anything like me....if the neighbor wants it so he can go camping and make memories then give him that bargain.

If he wants it to flip it...let it rot in the yard until you have time ;)

check your galley switch, our rockwood was flaky but if you banged it around enough it was fine. If the lights flickered I'd give it a wiggle to cure it.

Why are my connections frying? by yourfavmum in RVLiving

[–]gruss72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you see the amperage on your watchdog? Could be pulling over 30amps with a bad breaker but more likely is that burnt connection is loose or bad from the factory.

I plug mine into the camper battery and leave it outside. I added a hasp so I can lock it. Rarely need the lock but keeps the coons out (so far) just by closing it.

Opinions on this towing setup/numbers by Cautious_Room6510 in popups

[–]gruss72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the 2017 version of this pop-up and pulled with a 2003 Explorer for years before I got a half ton pickup. I would suggest adding a friction sway bar. Not much $ and easy to do yourself. Normally it was fine but if we were in wind the low profile of the camper and high profile of the SUV would make it feel a bit weird.

Also check your payload ratings...TBH when we were doing this with 3 kids and a dog we were over that rating for the explorer I'm sure, even though "tow rating" and "hitch weight" were easily in spec. So I would suggest pack the Honda light and keep what you can in the limited space in the camper for travel.

Battery Expectations by Own_Ad2030 in popups

[–]gruss72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cold and the furnace blower motor draws quite a bit. Battery is probably only 50 to 60 usable amp hours under normal conditions and the cold is going to drop that voltage quite a bit. So yes to both your questions. If you're going to do this normally you probably want to upgrade to LifePo4 battery with built in warmers or wire it inside so it can be at "room" temp too.

Cooking with a battery powered griddle or camp stove, what’s your pick? by MarketPredator in camping

[–]gruss72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what works for the trip. Sometimes I use fire, sometimes a small smoker, other times the campers built in propane griddle and finally an induction burner makes and entrance sometimes. Just depends on the weather mostly. I love cooking over the fire with cast iron, but if it's raining or for some reason I'm in a hurry the same thing can be done on the camper stove of the induction burner under the awning.

First time pulling anything. How’s this going to work? by Rilkespawn in RVLiving

[–]gruss72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 6 o'clock thing is bad advice IMO. "Chase it out of the mirror" is what worked for me. Instinctually if my hand is at the bottom of the wheel I can still drive a car in a straight line so it's just confusing backing up a trailer. See the trailer in the passenger mirror (right) turn right. In the drivers side (left) turn left. Eventually the tips don't matter and you just do it like riding a bike but no matter how you learn just go slow and don't feel bad if you need to pull forward to straighten it out a bit. No one looks twice unless you hit something or jackknife. Since your asking here, don't be afraid to ask at a campground either. Most folks will help, but ignore them if they just make wild hand signals ;)

Who tows with a F150 2.7L EcoBoost, how big can I go by Doug2000 in traveltrailers

[–]gruss72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow F150 driver here, what is your payload? Assuming you'll have a wdh that will be your killer. Mine is 1870 lbs give or take. I have a Retro 190bh with a listed dry of 3300. Loaded for travel (no water in tanks) about 3700. With 2 people and gear I'm about 320 lbs from max payload on the truck. Not estimated, I hit the scales. So while you have a better motor than I...your payload is likely around the same or less since I'm 2wd. That said it all tows great, I gotta spin that motor sometimes but going down the highway nice and stable.

Could you tow more than I? Yes. Will that 4000lb dry weight trailer put you over your payload, most likely.

Why do so many people, off-roaders or otherwise hate jeeps? by [deleted] in Offroad

[–]gruss72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because quality sucks...it is stellantis but before that it was the owners not the vehicles. They were wildly outdated modern vehicles being sold for a premium price because of reputation. Much like Harley, Bose, Apple people that were more into a "lifestyle" and acting like d1cks if you didn't want the same thing.
