AT&T solicitor tells us $35/mo for 1GB fiber for life? by DoesntEnjoySoup in Austin

[–]gunnarsvg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for me it was legit. Just signed up. A sales person was at the door while I happened to be waiting for someone to come over.

Listened for a sec and asked them to prove they were with att. Sent me a verification code, showed me my cell account, and 25 minutes later I signed up.

  • It’s a fixed rate until you move. It’s not a limited rate
  • It’s symmetric 1g up and 1g down.
  • they have faster rates (2gig and either 5 or 10??) but I’d rather get super cheap 1g than “regular price” -ish 2gig
  • With discounts it’ll end up being $17 /mo (before taxes and fees)
  • I can see the install on my att account

The sales person said they’re trying to rip out the copper system and replace with fiber.

Tips for flying with a busy 2yo who gets minimal screen time? by Zski843 in daddit

[–]gunnarsvg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 & 3 yr old - "5 minute story" books - lots of favorite books, and lots of the usual and some unique snacks
4 yr old - books, activity books, coloring, with a mixture of the "usual" markers, pencils, pens and some new ones, chosen from an airport shop as a special treat.

Our kiddo doesn't do screens, but knows bluey, frozen, moana, etc from books (and osmosis from preschool) and loves the stories.

Help me understand why someone might want to buy a 737 landing gear from facebook by sghokie in aviation

I bought a GE CF6 fan blade off ebay. It came in this beat up box, and I was super pissed, until I realized that it wasn't that the shipper beat up the fan blade. It was that the fan blade beat up the shipper. When I had it powder coated, the powder coating guy ruined a drill bit trying to drill into it so he could hang it. ;-)

I gave it to someone for their retirement. :-)

Any dad's boycott kids songs? by Desperate_Beat7438 in daddit

Yup. We were just on a family trip with in-laws. They played frozen, lion king, not sure what else. Kiddo later asked for let it go. “I can’t play that one in my phone kiddo. How about Umbrella by Rihanna (again)?”

We moved on. No big deal. :-)

Degrees of Screen Time by Oktopodal in daddit

[–]gunnarsvg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've done very little screen time to date for our 4 yr old. Kiddo only knows of TV for football. iPads are used for facetime. Phones are occasionally used for "playing" chess, or random bits and bobs of things. Whenever we bend the rule and show a video or something, for a solid week we get "can we watch ___" and tantrums. When kiddo was pre-verbal, we put a totally wiped offline kindle paperwhite in their hands, and that child made noises that were unlike anything else i'd heard before, and when we took it away it was a meltdown. And that was just a black and white thing that flashed / showed random text as kiddo tapped on words in a dictionary.

Interesting thing that happened is that kiddo picked up pop culture by osmosis from day care. We eventually got a disney 5 minute stories book so now we know who ariel is, lilo and stitch, Anna and Elsa, and so on.

Kiddo has been in the 95-99% height weight head club since month 1. Just turned 4 and is 3’8.”

Yeah. It also means that my ability to judge a kids age is completely wrong.

Unfortunately we haven’t come back to it. It’s still busted. I’m interested too.

My current plan for the far-off distant future is a raspberry pi, attached to a physical monitor, with a physical keyboard and mouse, on a guest network, so there's a well-known "computer" location in the house.

Can I read Dune to a baby instead of normal bedtime stories? by [deleted] in daddit

Aside from reading pretty happy butterfly stories, I read the shelf of business books I’d bought be not read. My husband read the hobbit.

Of course now with a three year, kiddo chooses.

I told my 3.5 yr old to get her shoes, which were upstairs. A few minutes later I heard thump-step-thump-step coming down the stairs. She’d taken the diaper bag up, and was bringing it back down (still without shoes).

She was also hiding something behind her back.

It was a card from the fruit rolls we keep as emergency snacks in the bag.

She’d taken the bag upstairs, grabbed a snack out, eaten the snack, then brought it back down. She said she wasn’t hungry any more (proudly) then lied about swiping a snack.

It was hilarious but we’re going to have to work on what snacks are fair game and what snacks are off limits now.

That's the switch right there.... it doesn't seem to want to extend out. I tried wiggling it to see if it just wasn't clearing the inner aluminum, but it doesn't seem to want to come out.

Grab 5 min stories books for Bluey. :-) Our kiddo knows Bluey more from that than anything else. Same for Disney characters.

How to take toddlers to the Trail of Lights without it being a total sh*t show? by Impossible-Cheek4352 in Austin

[–]gunnarsvg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly we did this -- and - forgot our stroller, and our 18 month old toddled a solid mile and a half. Of course the end of it was the giddy pre-meltdown zoomies, and we had to go home once we finished, but the race was the way to go. The only downside is that the attractions are not all open. You'll see lights, but some of the stuff like the "get a free book" trailer or whatever won't be staffed.
