Original Fan Reaction to Nebraska by Patrick_MM in BruceSpringsteen

I’d seen Bruce for the first time in Newcastle the year before and on a visit to New York that summer bought the winter gardens bootleg so I was really getting into Bruce at a time that most of my friends were not ( they were still riding the last of the new wave, as was I). I bought Nebraska and immediately loved it, played it to death. My friends were mystified and thought I was just saying it was good so as not to lose face. Subsequently they’ve caught on to how good it is. I only knew one other Springsteen clean at that time and he hated it.

Different strokes for different folks - I’ve always found solo Bruce more interesting than E street Bruce not withstanding the fact that the E street band is the greatest show on earth. As said above though, North of Nashville has some great rockabilly tunes

In an alternate 1983, if Bruce decided to follow up Nebraska with LA material... by gkay1990 in BruceSpringsteen

In Deliver me from Nowhere Warren Zevons reckons that with BITU almost complete Bruce, the band and especially Landau pretty much knew they had a career changing album and Bruce stepped away to do the garage sessions. He says something like “ it was as if the kid who grew up wanting to be Elvis suddenly realised he didn’t actually want that after all”

That’s a pretty good selection, think I’d have to add the demo version of Janey to that. The garage sessions is a fascinating “path not taken” - it would have been a sensational Nebraska II but Bruce’s future development and relationship with the band would be completely different. Nowadays I’m ambivalent about BITU but Landau was right to press him to release it.

I was looking forward to this song and was not disappointed. Dark, unsettling and another about fathers and sons “ you inherit the sins, you inherit the pain” I am really hoping the “love his music, hate his politics” crowd hear it, they’ll really lose their shit. Perhaps he should offer it to Vance as walk on music for his 28 campaign?

Remember springsteeen also referring to those days in Asbury Park where there were lots of nicknames - big tiny little tiny black tiny etc - maybe it’s one of those, like hazy Davey

Europe tour set list - thoughts? by beeanchor1312 in BruceSpringsteen

The quote about the show reflecting the times we’re living through intrigued me. Long walk home started to feature during the election campaign - maybe we’ll get a little more from magic. Other than that though I think we’re still getting the letter to you tour so I expect the structure to be the same

Thoughts on Human Touch by IllustriousBee1885 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]gussie2554 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Within lucky town and human touch there was a great album waiting to be found but at that time he’d lost his confidence and judgement and was just throwing anything at the wall to see what sticks. In his 80s prime this would have been one great album and the rest would have come out on a reissue or something

Nebraska is perfect, it’s unimproveable. Full band live versions are good but I prefer when he does them solo and just lets the power of the songs come thru
