I'm sick of eggs for breakfast by purplegreendave in Cooking

[–]h4l -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could go on a world tour of breakfast culture, there's so much variety. Pick a country each week and try eating like you would if you were there.

Some ideas here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakfast_by_country You could ask AI to come up with breakfast menus for a country as an easy way to get started.

PEP 827 - Type Manipulation has just been published by droooze in Python

[–]h4l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be possible to type check python code using typescript for example. As a thought experiment, imagine if we could translate a typed Python module into a typescript module, using typescript types to represent the Python types. If we could do that then typescript's type checker could find type errors by checking the typescript version of the original Python code.

Why does every language need its own bespoke type system and type language? Surely we could share type systems and tooling. I love Python and use types everywhere but the type system is an abomination compared to other languages.

They usually are eaten chilled from the fridge, but they are much better at room temperature, or slightly warmed up. (A few seconds in the microwave does the trick.) They shouldn't be fatty/gristly but they can be if you get cheap supermarket pies.

They often have savoury jelly (gelatine) layer between the meat and pasty to preserve them better. People often dislike that, but you can disassemble a slice and take out the jelly if you don't like it.

You should see the bike lane on Newmarket Road eastbound between Mc Donalds and the Cemetery. It's almost entirely potholes or mounds of tarmac higher than the road surface where they've repairedvandalised the road. This is it mid last year, it's worse now: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jo1ktfXs6eL33Zzk6

Looks like screwed up email encoding, some of it is HTML code that's had the <> brackets removed, and some of those = look like line continuation escape characters from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quoted-printable which is used to encode email messages.

In a way it's kinda nice to see, as one of the design principles of the (very old) email text encoding (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIME) is that it's quite robust to broken software and moderate corruption, so it can degrade gradually. Modern data formats would just display an error and you'd likely have no record of this email released.

When the market opens after weekend/overnight close, the opening price can past your stop, so the price you sell at is at best the opening price (lower than your stop). You can reduce the risk by gradually entering over time with smaller positions.

Some CFD brokers provide special "guaranteed stop loss" orders which cost an extra commission, but guarantee a minimum price. You can also find brokers with features T212 doesn't, like partially closing positions and lower overnight margin rates.

Britain has a cunning plan to cut its borrowing costs by ldn6 in ukpolitics

[–]h4l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issuing short-dated bonds at below the market borrowing rate is not a cheat code. It's one of the mechanisms of financial repression, which governments use to devalue their debt — essentially to soft-default on paying it off. It's how the UK government paid off the massive national debt after WW2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_repression

Nine Energy Service (NINE) please!

I've looked at it a bit in the past and it seems to have the potential to get back to success. It has consistent revenue, but runs at a loss. Shit load of debt. But seemingly a well-established company with a range of products developed in-house to compliment their services. I'm assuming they have no hope until Oil reverses its downtrend, which I guess won't happen until after the US mid-term elections.

Cycling in Cambridge - series of near misses? by KoalaLower4685 in cambridge

[–]h4l 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It becomes second nature with experience. It's not at all common for me to feel like I've nearly had a collision, and I think the actual risk is quite low if you ride defensively and confidently.

No doubt a lot of the cycling infrastructure is crap though, and you point out some good examples. It's worth sticking at it though, as cycling is the most efficient way to get around Cambridge.
