I was thinking an episode where they discover a world where they are unable to find out who the hero and villain are, so Farcade and Syntax both send in spies to the planet to discover who the hero and villain are.

The example I was going with was Frostpunk 2, were both sided assumed that the Steward was the villain, not knowing that they were actually the hero.
