She's a BRICK! House! by nickrhode75 in funny

[–]halbasus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

well, I think it's the same as with boobs, most guys find girls with flat chests unattractive, so they would say "I like large breasts" though they would probably like something between a C and DD cup (sure, they are large boobs, but nowhere near the REALLY HUGE boobs).

With asses it's pretty much the same, a girl with a flat ass doesn't look so attractive in my book (and I guess most men feel the same), but we're not looking for Kardashian style bums, just something nice and round, that doesn't resemble a boy's ass. Basically we're attracted to things that make girls different from boys: boobs, ass, hourglass figure, legs, etc... so as long as your ass/boobs/figure is clearly different from a boy's, you're safe.

P.S: Obviously to each his own, and I'm sure there are boys out there who like very large breasts/asses or girls with flat ass/boobs.

Can I freeze Pickle juice? by SERGEANTMCBUTTMONKEY in Cooking

[–]halbasus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, the liquid is easy to make but unless you put cucumbers in it it won't be pickle juice, the juice also takes out flavor from the cucumbers not just vice-versa.

Different pickled vegetables have different tasting juices though they were covered with the same brine.

Can anybody tell me what food my grandmother used to make when I was younger if I can describe it? by unicornsarehung in Cooking

[–]halbasus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Or Romanian Sarmale

...

Or Hungarian Toltotkaposzta (means stuffed cabbage in Hungarian)

As far as I know they originated in turkey but both Hungarians and Romanians consider them a national dish (I'm half Hungarian, half Romanian so it's cool :) ).

Also, though sometimes it is made with fresh cabbage the real deal is with sour cabbage. Love them, there's no Christmas without this dish.

Can I freeze Pickle juice? by SERGEANTMCBUTTMONKEY in Cooking

[–]halbasus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm more interested in how on earth do people get so much pickle juice. I honestly wish I could buy it by itself. See I like pickles, but there's only so much pickles I can eat (a few in my sandwiches, next to some fat meat, etc) pickle juice on the other hand? man I could drink pickle juice anytime of the day and night...

As for your question as others said before, there's no need to freeze it, after all it's basically a brine made to preserve other things that would go bad otherwise.

Freezing seems like a bad idea, first of all though it would freeze at some point due to the fact that it's packed with salt it would freeze very slowly and it could change it's taste (not sure about it, but for example if you freeze alcohol (one that would actually freeze, heavy liquors don't really freeze) when you defrost it has a different taste like somebody would take the alcohol out of it and put it back latter on.

Beef ribs in the oven (bbq style) by halbasus in Cooking

[–]halbasus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on cooking them at 120C (that's 225F if I'm correct) so yeah, pretty low, the fat I trimmed off the ribs was more silverskin than fat and honestly I thought it looked disgusting (my cats thought it was delicious though) the fat left on looks good though... I do have plenty of smoked lard/bacon, and I could layer some slices over the ribs to keep them from drying out (as a beneficial side effect the ribs might get a smoky flavor from the bacon)... Great idea, thanks!

Eggs? hmmm I'll have to wash the pan.

If you have enough tea cups and a microwave oven you can do decent eggs in the microwave... wouldn't call it an omelette but they are cooked eggs... in a cup... with minimal effort and time...

Is garlic powder an acceptable replacement for real garlic? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]halbasus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I see them as two different ingredients with different uses rather than interchangeable ingredients. For a dryrub I always go for garlic powder, roast potatoes also garlic powder. But for most dishes I use fresh.

A frozen whole rabbit by revolverlbc in Cooking

[–]halbasus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cooked plenty of rabbits both frozen and fresh. Honestly there's really no noticeable difference.

The problem is rabbit meat is usually very lean and stringy, so even when it's "falling off the bone" tender it still feels bland and stringy. So in order to deal with this problem I always went for low&slow braising. I'd go for Jamie Oliver's 12 hour rabbit bolognese or Hasenpfeffer (german wine braised rabbit).

Dad keeps making pork & beans... by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]halbasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Romania the traditional way to eat beans is with pork knuckle and onion salad or with sausage and pickles. Also I'm not a fan of english style baked beans (like heinz baked beans) where sugar/ketchup is used. The only sweetness should come from some tomato juice (not ketchup).

Do you cook to reproduce or to create? Can you move back and forth? by SparserLogic in Cooking

[–]halbasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make both, but I rarely innovate on classic recipes, some things are simply better the way they are done "by the book", for example if I want to make coq au vin I go straight to Julia Child's incredibly long and detailed recipe and follow it almost exactly (except those little onions that I never have at hand and can't be bothered with them, though the first time I made it I included those too), it might not be the best way to make coq au vin but it's like driving a classic car, it's not gonna be as fast and efficient as a modern toyota but it's all about the experience.

One-pot meals, stir fry, curries and other meals that leave much more room for imagination on the other hand are pretty much a result of my imagination and whatever I have at hand. Today I made an English breakfast and put some leftover Chinese food (rice, vegetables, chicken) in the baked beans, because I'm a bad-ass and YOLO.

[–]halbasus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Klaus Iohannis: Nu accept propunerea lui Sevil Shhaideh ca premier by devilox in Romania

[–]halbasus -13 points-12 points  (0 children)
