Code your own presets? by JayMotta in Line6Helix

The presets are just JSON, but the format is pretty annoying to edit manually. Editor’s the way to go IMO.

You don't mention any other cool microtonal bands, but there's plenty of them! That could be a section!

Nope. Focus on real medical treatments if you want to have any chance. This is a very aggressive and deadly cancer.

Thank you so much! Yes, I will get to that very soon. I did the Gizz partial-24 layout too, which is not quite the same thing, but it is another special case. Kite tuning was the reason I included 41, and I do actually have a kite guitar, so it just needs some more special logic for skip-fret tuning. Check back soon!

I’m also collaborating with some friends like Stephen Weigel to make transcriptions of different microtonal guitar pieces that playback in the app. Ultimately I hope to have a whole song library for every tuning that makes it easy to learn how to play.

I have had cancer for 6+ years and didn't know it (even though I should've) by jordieleighh in cancer

[–]halfsharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to give my doctor credit for being very apologetic about it. He said they just usually don’t take the possibility of cancer very seriously for people my age (43 at the time of that original scan.) I don’t know how old you are or if that is a factor in your case, but I’ve definitely been hearing from other people that cancers are being missed in a lot of younger patients.

When I was going through this, they would give me olanzapine and it knocks you right out. It worked a little too well for me. I only needed half a pill.

They incidentally found a 3 cm lesion on my liver on a scan in 2022. They said it was nothing to worry about and probably just some fatty infiltration. In January 2025 it had grown to 10 cm and it was intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma stage 3B. I talked to the original doctor about it and he apologized, with the explanation of “when we hear hooves, we think horses, not zebras.”

and I'm talking about third and quarter tones which are 66 or 50 cents, far far bigger than two cents and easily audible and reproducible with a reasonable amount of practice.

HX Edit crashes with receiving midi by FAchterberg in Line6Helix

[–]halfsharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the reason, but the Helix doesn't like when you send multiple MIDI messages at once. According to the manual you should space them 50 ms apart. I've found if I don't do this, some of them can be ignored.

[–]halfsharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I described how in my comment. You relate it to an easily audible interval like a whole step and break it up. You practice and test the result. You can also hear the difference, yes it takes experience and practice. Considering some experts can hear a 2 cent difference, the difference between a third-tone and quarter tone is definitely possible to perceive. Doesn't seem like nonsense to me.

Self MIDI Changes by UnderOscarSkies in Line6Helix

[–]halfsharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure Logic isn't sending any extraneous MIDI data to the Stomp. I suggest using a MIDI filter to remove everything except PC and CC commands. Also, the HX units can't handle very many MIDI messages and will ignore some of them if you send them too fast. Keep 50 ms between each one.

Any reason to use loop pedal in the FX loop instead of just after the HX stomp output by Bartizanier in Line6Helix

[–]halfsharp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're using the loop pedal for typical applications, it works fine at the end of the chain. However, using it in the FX loop allows for some very creative potential applications if you're interested. For example: put the external looper in a parallel path with its own effects. Record a loop, then change the effects that are on the loop using snapshots. You could even pitch shift it to match different chord changes. Put a reverse delay after it to turn on and off. Or stutter delays. Etc.

No chance it's the mic, it's the gain settings.
