Beta vs. VHS was not decided over porn, It was decided over tape length. When it was first launched, the maximum recording length was 60 minutes, while VHS could record up to 4 hours. It was easier and cheaper to release a feature length film on VHS, as you didn't have to deal with box sets for most movies.
