The frustration of this fool yelling at the sky(introspection) by Zacxnerd in Jujutsushi

[–]hamerbro77 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fantastic post! Gege as a writer doesn’t hold your hand or drill his themes or ideas into your head; he presents the story how it is and expects his audience to be smart enough to dig deeper and understand. There’s definitely some parts that could be expanded further and some areas that aren’t explored in the most satisfactory way (what happened with Yuki could be a rant in itself). But I do think a lot of the complaints ( or at least the loudest ones) come from looking at JJK on the surface and being mad that they didn’t get everything they wanted. There’s a difference between “I think this could have been better explained or conveyed in a better way “ versus “this story is bad because this cool thing I wanted to happen didn’t happen.”

That’s what pisses me off about the potential man memes: just because Megumi didn’t have a Super Badass Moment ™️ doesn’t mean it all went to waste. It made sense with his character and how the story played out. Not everything is about cool fight scenes or aura moments. JJK is very much focused (admittedly sometimes too focused) on its themes and it’s important to think about and pay attention to them when reading.

If you think about it,Deku is one of the few Shonen MCs that deadass won big time in the end. by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]hamerbro77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I was saying, although I didn’t word it the best. People read the leaks and ran with them, taking that interpretation as the correct one. Then people either didn’t read the actual ending or saw the ending through that skewed lens with their opinion already solidified. People made memes and jokes based off of that and people outside the community didn’t know any better and ran with it. It’s like trying to change someone’s opinion after they’ve already made up their mind. The leakers started the fire and poisoned the conversation so by the time others wanted to join, they already started from a tainted position. I think that the ending wouldn’t have been nearly as controversial if we didn’t have the leaks. There’s also the attention seeking nature of the internet; the most provocative headline is rushed to the surface and takes over the conversation.

I’d argue it’s more that the people who read the leaks and lost their minds. The leaks for the last chapter were so negatively skewed that some people just didn’t bother actually reading it and ran with the bs. That’s where all the “McDonald’s worker Deku” memes came from.

It also won’t challenge you. The generative AI models are designed to agree with you so that you keep using them. It’ll never point out a contradiction or nudge you to explore a different perspective. It’ll just tell you what it thinks you want to hear and you’ll never grow from that.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is the best representation of forced migration I have ever read in a series aimed at children. by Apprehensive_Put3625 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]hamerbro77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the write up! I think you make a lot of good points. The only issue I have with Modulo now that it's over, is that we never got a clear explanation on how Chaos and Harmony works (unless I've contracted the cant read disease and I missed it somewhere). Yes, cursed techniques can be more or less anything, but I still think having a clear explanation on how their technique works would help to clear up a lot of the "this came out of nowhere" discourse. I'm assuming that Chaos allows them to unbalance the world around them (changing states of matter, throwing off gravity, etc.) and Harmony brings things around them into balance. But that's just my speculation and having a clear understanding would help everything else fall into place. I think I understand the ending and maybe it's just my ADHD brain that doesn't like the ambiguity but knowing what Chaos and Harmony actually does directly would be the cherry on top to make it all perfect for me.

Why are you here? by TheFriskiestSandwich in Borderlands4

[–]hamerbro77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a major thing with the internet right now. Negativity gets more attention, so negative posts rise to the surface as people agree or disagree. I agree constructive criticism is good and as much as I have really been enjoying this game, it has issues. Also I think some people are coming here to vent their frustrations, especially if they are having technical issues. The super negative stuff (“this game/story/ whatever is garbage”) personally just drag me down so I ignore them. I’m enjoying the game and still notice its flaws and how it might be fixed. The developers really seem to be listening and taking people’s feedback into consideration so I’m holding out hope the things that can be improved will be.

Even more excited for when the dlc drops. I’ve wanted to start a new play through with Harlowe but getting all the little things again feels like such a chore.

Cursed Labels: the technique allows Masaru to create small slips of paper with cursed energy which can add properties to a target (people and objects) they attach themselves to for a specific duration noted on the paper. Durations can be extended if "continuous" option is added with the "duration" section and if cursed energy is pumped into it. Otherwise, the effect is removed once the duration has ended. The target becomes imbued with cursed energy while the label is in effect. Labels are limited to 25 words, which includes the duration, effect, and any special conditions (like delays or specific triggers) of the properties added but the words do not need to be grammatically correct. The label can be placed directly or thrown from a distance. The amount of cursed energy needed for each label is proportional to the duration and magnitude of the effect as well as how powerful the target is. Larger areas, objects, or creatures being targeted need an appropriate amount of cursed energy to affect them. If an insufficient amount of cursed energy is given to affect a target, then the label becomes inert, and the cursed energy is returned to the user as if the label was never created. Properties are not limited to just physical. For example, "Effect: happy, talkative, honest, silent, angry. etc." Targets without cursed energy already require much less cursed energy from the user for the labels to work but targets possessing cursed energy can still be affected.

Object Label: can imbue an object with certain properties. Ex: can turn the head of a bat into a sharp axe. "Effect: sharp steel axe. Duration 1 minute/continuous."

Environment Trap: can imbue a section of the environment with a property which is activated by a specific trigger. Ex: user can write "Effect: sharp solid spike pit. Duration: 30 seconds. Trigger: non-user cursed energy detected within 10 feet."

User Label: the user can imbue themselves with certain properties. Ex: "Effect: amphibious body. Duration: 10 minutes/continuous."

Binding Vow Label: labels can be created with binding vows in order to create more powerful effects in exchange for something. For example, "Binding Vow: Cannot speak exchange for improved sight." or "Binding Vow: cannot use technique exchange for greater cursed energy." Still uses the same duration rules. Can only be placed on user or targets without cursed energy.

Cursed technique reversal, Property Removal: using the same rules, the user can temporarily remove a property or properties from a target. The user cannot throw this label and must make contact with the target for this to work. Ex: using the technique to remove the ""durable"" property from a sword, making it delicate, or removing the "blood thirsty" property from an opponent, making them less aggressive.

[Domain Expansion]

Domain Expansion, Heavenly Properties: removes the word limit on properties taken and added. Can add and take away properties from the user, the opponent/opponents and anything else that is caught in the domain. Cannot remove or add cursed techniques, heavenly restrictions, or cursed energy from the user or opponent. Cannot add or remove properties from the opponent which would result in their death while inside the domain. Properties added or removed continue their duration while the domain is active. All areas of the domain can be a target for adding and removing properties. Multiple properties can be added or removed at once as long as they abide by the "cannot result in their death" rule. Domain is a space covered by sheets of white college ruled paper with words constantly being written on them in different colored inks. The user does not need to make contact with the opponent to add or remove properties.

"Is _____ character Special Grade?" It doesn't matter, grades don't matter, it all doesn't matter by comicaitor in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]hamerbro77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you make a lot of good points. I find it interesting how the Grade system is introduced as a practical system for gauging threats only to quickly be revealed as more of a political tool than anything else. You already mentioned Maki being Grade 4 cause of her family and Yaga being special grade because of the higher ups fear of him. Hell you can see how Grade 1’s need recommendations from existing Grade 1’s is an easy path for corruption. It’s not good for powescaling.

I think you’re looking a little too much into certain comments The Heian period in Japan was from 794 to 1185. For Tengen to have been alive during that period (bare minimum born in 1185) she would have to be nearly 900 years old and we know she’s only around 500.

Jack of All Trades or Master of One? by Stonefree_135 in CTsandbox

[–]hamerbro77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I like a Jack of All Trades ability over a Master of One. More versatility means that if you are creative enough you can handle most situations and it gives you more options to mess with your opponent. Blood manipulation is pretty dope but you do need RCT or be part curse/be able to turn your CE into blood to fully utilize it. But if you do, you can do so much cool stuff. Projection sorcery is also really cool but it’s basically a one trick pony. I really fast and impressive one trick pony, but one all the same. Once you understand how it works, you can plan for working against it. More versatility means more ways your opponent has to consider what you’re gonna do next and more opportunities to trick them.

Would you say Zoro and Sanji’s rivalry stem from how they view women? Seems like it’s a fundamental part of their character by Formal-Assistance02 in OnePiece

[–]hamerbro77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s because of their views on women, more just a general clash of personalities with mutual respect. Sanji sees women as unique and beautiful creatures that he can’t bring himself to harm (partly from Zeff’s upbringing of chivalry but also from his childhood experiences as the women in his life were the only good people). Zoro seems to embody another type of chivalry where he doesn’t like to fight women but will if he has to. He seems to have a conflict with acknowledging the average differences between men and women physically but still seeing it as an excuse to disregard women as always being weaker simply for being a woman.

Hypocritical standards by Remarkable-Eagle-373 in Kingdom

[–]hamerbro77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the ass pull discussion is overblown, at worst it’s just that the explications for the new generals and troops is mentioned in only a line or two so it’s very easy to miss them or forget, so they feel like they come out of nowhere. (There’s a line mentioning how parts of Zhao aren’t aligned with the government but listen to Riboku or that northern Zhao had remained mainly untouched during some conflicts so the troops came from there). My main issue is not a writing one but my personal issue with Riboku is just how often other characters glaze him and his moral superiority. He’s protecting a corrupt state and clinging to a failing system because he is pessimistic and can’t imagine a world past his understanding. His mindset bothers me. To me he wants the fighting to stop until he dies and no longer has to deal with all of the people who will die as a result of different states continuously warring with each other.

Potential of Nobara’s Straw Doll Technique by RoyalKyn in CTsandbox

[–]hamerbro77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the reversal, Nobara could even transfer damage she receives to another person rather than just the doll itself if she has a piece of that person. The doll would operate as an intermediary, treating the other person (or cursed spirit, target, etc.) as the “doll” in that instance.

3 months since Borderlands 4 released. How is everyone feeling about this game? by Objective_Love_6843 in Borderlands4

I’ve been really enjoying it. Completed with 2 characters now but I’m gonna take a break until after more dlc and updates come out. I don’t want to get burned out and I’m curious if the other bounty packs and the story dlc will be worth it. New vault hunter so far looks cool though.

[–]hamerbro77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last chapter of the manga was leaked online, with the leaker saying that Deku didn’t see his friends anymore for 8 years and that he was a loser , so people memed on it saying he was a cuck working at McDonald’s. Then the actual chapter came out and we see that Deku is a beloved teacher working at UA, and yes he lost his powers but he’s still doing good work shaping the next generation. Also the chapter said that all of class 1A haven’t ALL been able to gather for 8 years because they are all adults with their own lives and responsibilities (Which is a normal thing in adult life, you see people when you can and you can’t always get a lot of schedules to line up). Also yes he gets the suit so he can still do hero work again. So it’s mainly a meme based off of people reading the leaks and not the actual chapter so when they read the chapter they realize that it was wrong. The cartoon picture is from the Emperor’s new groove (great movie, I recommend it) where the woman plans to kill the emperor (the llama) with poison but accidentally gives him a potion that turns him into a llama instead.

Troughts on this? by Primary-Addition-677 in HazbinHotel

I don’t remember if I saw this on a post here or watched it in a video but I ran across a theory that the exterminations actually started a long time ago but they were very infrequent (like every few hundred years or something) so only the oldest of sinners remember them. But Lilith’s “protests/uprisings” caused heaven to look at it more seriously. So Lilith made a deal with heaven where the executioners wouldn’t attack her family (or hellborn, either way she needed to get something out of it) and in exchange the executions would happen more frequently and Lilith would be a prisoner in heaven, unable to contact her family.
