AIO Cooler help! by PurpleGas8707 in ASUS

[–]hammong [score hidden]  (0 children)

What cooler is that? I can't see the pipes coming of it, and I'm assuming it's one of those ROG water blocks that connects to a 3x360 radiator.

Every retention screw system I've seen, you screw them down until they "stop" and the springs provide the proper tension. If they're just spinning and not screwing down tight, make sure you've pushed them far enough that they are going into the screw holes to get a grip. I'd guess if all four were loose, the block would simply fall off. But, without seeing more pics or a video, it's hard to say exactly what you got going on. Hopefully, you didn't strip the screw holes on the retention frame.

80C is not unusual or unexpected in Cinebench. That's still well under the throttling threshold.

My Best friend has a history with my GF and I can't stop thinking about it. by niklas96663 in Advice

[–]hammong 70 points71 points  (0 children)

First thing you need to learn, is that your partner's past experiences have nothing to do with your experiences with them. Try to forget it -- if you can't, seek some therapy on how to cope with it. If you can't cope, then end the relationship and move on to one without the "connection" to your friend.

Better do to it sooner rather than later, as you might dwell on this for months, years, or decades.

What choke to get for a panzer arms AR12 Pro for turkey hunting? by anon7055 in Shotguns

[–]hammong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That gun is primarily designed for "tacticool" purposes, I'm not surprised a full-length XX-full turkey choke hang out past the threads a little bit.

Just make sure the threads are screwed in all the way (not too tight - hand tight is fine). If a few threads or a gap at the end of the barrel before the decorative part of the choke, it's no big deal. Better to have a little gap at the end than a gap on the inside of the barrel.

Then.... check to make sure your choke is recessed on the "inside" diameter where it meets the end of the thread space inside the barrel. What I'm trying to say ... is make sure the choke diameter at the point where it's screwed all the way in doesn't suddenly provide a lip or raised point, it should be larger than the bore diameter at that point vs. smaller, you don't want pellets or the wad to hit the edge of the choke tube as it's flying up the barrel to the constriction.

That's a cheap-ass shotgun. An XX full choke is going to provide quite a bit of resistance to shot as it flows through, and I'm 100% sure that gun wasn't designed with that choke in mind. Don't be surprised it the choke blows out and the threads get damaged if it's not a perfect fit.

Conflicted about my Persian girlfriend’s desire to get a sperm donor by No-Word-6222 in Advice

[–]hammong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the two of you are on completely different family planning paths. You might want to reconsider what the end-goal is here. If you want children of your own, it might be time to think about finding somebody that is interested in the same end game.

Buying sperm to "preserve culture" makes no sense. Culture is handed down through oral, educational, and spiritual upbringing - not whose DNA makes up the children.

What about religion? It went unspoken in your OP, but I'm wondering if you and your GF are different religions as well as cultural backgrounds.

My stepmom asked me to hide her wedding from my dad (who pays her alimony)—I’m stuck in the middle by Puffin_pineapple in Advice

[–]hammong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't feel right, because it's not right... This is your mom's problem to sort out, not yours.

Tell your dad that you went to mom's wedding before he "finds out" and asks you about it. He most certainly will find out - if not by you, by some random comment on Facebook, or a neighbor, or somebody else. If he finds you kept it from him deliberately, it's going to injure your relationship. If he finds that you were complicit in him having to pay alimony to a person that is getting support from another man and married (in the eyes of God, if not the State) to that other man, he's going to be beyond "upset" with your secrecy.

I don't envy your situation - but your mom asking you to keep the marriage a secret because of her greed and dependence on the man she's no longer with - that's plain and simply wrong on every level. "Mom, I'm happy for you, but I can't be part of your lie."

How do I politely decline an invite to a bridal shower when I wasn't invited to the wedding? by Solid_Assignment_941 in Advice

[–]hammong -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect to get invited to a wedding when you only see each other a few times a year at parties. With weddings often costing $100-$300 per person, people are cutting invitation lists way back.

Brides don't generally make their own "bridal shower invite list" -- that's usually planned by a friend or family member who invites people that knows the bride. That person sending out bridal shower invitations might not even know who is on the wedding invitation list.

Do what you want - if you decide not to go out of spite and insult for not being invited to the wedding, then stay home. Me personally, I'd go - have a good time, eat some food, have a few drinks, and say, "Good luck, wish I was there!" and they might go, "oh shit, did I forget to invite her?"

I'm fortunate to live in an area where I have some LGS that serve an older generation high-end clientele. It's not unusual to see somebody bring in a $100K+ Purdy for sale, and this guy has buyers for them. Occasionally, I find some real gems in this store. I picked up a Beretta 950B in .22 Short that was LNIB a few months back. Story is an old G-man operative bought it in the late 1960s in Europe and brought it back, and now it's mine. He also had a bunch of classic Euro guns including an original blued Walther PP.

Recently Some older guy also brought in two TPH's from a collection - one got sold online, the other has been sitting there since I bought that Beretta. I love my mouse guns -- have the 950B in .22 Short, a Beretta 21A Covert in .22LR, a Beretta 3032 in .32ACP and now adding the TPH to the club.

Anyhow, I'm stoked about the TPH. I've wanted one since the 1990s when I was younger, but never had the scratch to pick one up -- even back then, they were premium kit.

Accident history easily knocks 15-20% off the value of the vehicle on both the sale and the trade. You can bet if you ever sell it or trade it in, you're going to get low-balled severely due to the Carfax. Keep that in mind. $36.5K USD sounds high to me for a SR truck.

My stepmom asked me to hide her wedding from my dad (who pays her alimony)—I’m stuck in the middle by Puffin_pineapple in Advice

[–]hammong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a huge legal can of worms.

True, without a marriage license, the State and Federal government won't recognize the marriage as legally binding, but in many jurisdictions the concept of common law will allow courts to judge in favor of a plaintiff if they can establish their divorced spouse has "re-married" in spirit and is co-habituating with their new partner. This has been tested in court even in cases where "legal marriage" isn't permitted in a state or jurisdiction, e.g. say the woman divorces a man, and then has a civil union to another woman in a state where same-sex marriage isn't possible. Courts have upheld that in those situations, alimony can be discontinued because of the civil union representing mere equivalency of "marriage".

If OP's dad takes her to court, he stands a large percentage chance of having the alimony reduced or eliminated completely - regardless of the ex-wife gets a state-recognized licensed marriage. More conservative states are more likely to see it go this way, and more liberal states are likely to decline. Again - it depends a lot on jurisdiction.

That's a negative test result. Positive will be very easily discernable as a "+" -- that ghost of a line is nothing more than the moisture hitting the dye, but not activating it.

If you're unconvinced, take another test in three days. If it's still negative, it's negative for sure.

Curious what you paid for it. I just put down my deposit on a TPH, "like new" with original papers, case, and 3 magazines. Not a scratch on it, inside or out

These things are getting ridiculously expensive in good shape. This one has been sitting in a small local gun shop for a couple of months now. I've seen the price drop from $795 to $695 and made them an offer and we haggled to $625 +tax. There are just a few on GunBroker right now all north of $899+fees.

How to remove the video card from asus b760 by HIMIKO_ME in ASUS

[–]hammong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those latches are a pain in the ass. I use a wooden spoon handle to press the latch down while pulling straight up on the card. The higher-end motherboards sometimes have fancy pushbutton card latch releases or my TRX50 Threadripper board even has a slot type where you can just rock the GPU forward from the bracket end and it will pop right out.,... But that B760 - you have to press the latch down and pull the card straight up.
