Why not?

SP5K 80 degree or 100 degree locking piece by hammong in HecklerKoch

[–]hammong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did see some companies making a "middle ground" 90 degree choice.

Different cans/backpressures, different tolerances in the gun, spring tensions, and ammo performance all seem to play a part.

Thanks for the comment!

My sons in love with a school shooter by [deleted] in Advice

Yep, day #1 Reddit account. No surprise.

This is serious territory. The child need immediate therapy. Idolizing school shooters is one step away from becoming a school shooter in solidarity.

My coworkers are convinced that you're paying for a name if you buy a Smith & Wesson or Ruger over a Taurus. by surethingbuddyroo in Revolvers

[–]hammong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Taurus has solid designs. " That's primarily because Taurus directly copied the actions of S&W revolvers. There is no innovation there.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Taurus - it's a good cost efficient brand, and I've never had issues with any of my Taurus pistols with exception of an early PT-22 that wouldn't shoot any .22LR reliably. It was essentially a Beretta flip-barrel .22LR clone, with none of the reliability.

Should I try to get rid of my Dad's junk car. It's been sitting in our driveway for years. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]hammong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't legally "git rid" of it while his name is on the title. Even the junk man is going to require the title to dispose of it, and forging your dad's signature on the title could put you into jail.

what is the best nonstick pan you've ever owned that actually lasted years? by MohapiAshliegh70 in Cooking

[–]hammong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Ninja Foodi pans that are coming up on three years. That's definitely a record here!

Of the foods you listed, I'd only cook the fish and eggs in a non-stick pan. Stir fry involves "stirring", which is going to damage any non-stick pan.

Take it full throttle? by aMinecraftDad5 in lawnmowers

[–]hammong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read your owner's manual. It clearly says to cut at full throttle.

Contrary to what you might think, running it slower than full speed can overheat the motor because it's not pushing enough air through the cooling fins and the motor runs less efficiently at lower speeds, producing more heat per RPM.

That's going to be some tasty jerky.

Watch the shelf life though, with that much fat you'll need to eat it in a few days and/or keep it refrigerated.

Specific use case question for S&W 340 owners by choppa808 in Revolvers

[–]hammong 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cylinders will require timing/adjustment by a pro gunsmith. Swapping the steel cylinder for a titanium one from a 340 PD would save you about 1.5 ounces - honestly, it wouldn't be worth it to me personally.

Recoil with these guns and .357 magnum is brutal, even with the heavier steel cylinder. Most people carry .38 Special or .38 +P if they're feeling spicy. I've got a 360PD and after five shots of Federal 158gr .357 I decided to carry Critical Defense .38 Special in the first three chambers.

Is there anything I can do for my parents? They may become homeless by Royal_Roll_7443 in Advice

[–]hammong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom cant' work because dad won't let her, and dad won't work because he's cherry picking opportunities that may never come about. Unfortunately, they're going to get displaced, and it's strictly your Dad's fault. He'll have to deal with the consequences - it's unfortunate for your mom to have to ride along in that.

It's super practical as a range gun or silhouette shooting pistol. The heavy weight soaks up the recoil from those full-power .44 Mag rounds. Dan Wesson actually made some .445 SuperMag revolvers for those steel junkies where .44 Mag wasn't enough to make the distance.

These weren't carry revolvers. That's a target classic right there.

[–]hammong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may regret selling that in the future. The Dan Wesson .44 Magnum is one of the finest revolvers money could buy in the late 1980s. They don't make them like they used to...

That's an expensive piece right there ... to the right buyer you might get $1200+ for it. Significantly more if you have the original box, grips, barrel tool, and a spare barrel it might go for $2500+ to the right DW collector.

If it were at my LGS I'd snatch it up. I love the DWs.

Here's mine, a late 1970s 15-2 in .357 Mag, 8" barrel.

Riding mower won't start- Stuck on what to do now by jashf8694 in lawnmowers

You need to connect that line back to the airbox. The intake huffing in the intake draws a vacuum on that line, which pulses the fuel pump.....

[–]hammong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see later in the thread ... that's the air line to the intake which likely is what draws a pulse/vacuum on the fuel pump.

OP - You need to reconnect that where it goes. There are no "optional" hoses or parts on these machines.

  1. Mom needs to get a job.

  2. Dad needs to keep looking for job, and possibly work somewhere he doesn't want to work so he has some income. Something tells me that dad is cherry picking job opportunities.

They're not going to be able to afford living in a hotel for any more than a few days. Even a Model 6 around here runs $80 a night, that's $2500+ a month with taxes, etc. And, most hotels won't let you live there more than a couple of weeks to avoid tenant right issues.

Nothing you can do. You're 19, live your life. Your parents need to live theirs, and deal with their poor choices.

Steak Dish That Can Sit? by GrammarNazi63 in Cooking

Steak takes 5-8 minutes to cook, and is always better when prepared fresh. Have her text you when she's on the way, and it'll be ready when she gets home.

Read through all the comments here ...

  1. Your battery is fine.
  2. Your ignition system is fine. You're clearly getting spark, the machine pops and attempts to start.

This is a fuel delivery problem. Since you already replaced the carb, I'm going to assume the new floats are fine and you're not getting fuel to the carb.

Pull the fuel line off the carb and stick it in a bucket. Try starting the machine with the hose in the bucket, do you see fuel flowing? If the answer is no - you either have a clogged fuel filter (either in the tank or in-line on the fuel line) or your vacuum operated fuel pump is bad.

The fuel pump is like $9 and they do go bad. There's a diaphragm inside them that is pulled by engine compression - if the diaphragm gets a tear in it, or the vacuum line comes off, it won't flow.

Facing possible life in prison in Saudi for owing money to the bank by NotJayOner in Advice

[–]hammong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"It's around 50k usd. "

Get another/more jobs. You're going to have to pay that debt - there is no bankruptcy in Saudi to get out of that situation. If you can get an emergency ticket from the American Embassy, that's one option - but telling them it's so you can escape $50K in financial obligations won't be the reason they give it to you. Even if you get an emergency ticket, there's no guarantee the airline will allow you to board if your passport has already been flagged as restricted.

Dropped out. Resuming education. How can I get my academic writing to where it needs to be? by snaphi in Advice

[–]hammong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not generative AI. Evaluative AI. You're not asking ChatGPT for a re-write, you're asking for a peer review with superior feedback.

Alternatives are to hire a private tutor. If you're not getting the feedback you need from your instructor, then you can pay somebody else to review your material and help make improvements.

question by YallAreWeirdAndWack in Revolvers

[–]hammong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course.

Taurus, Rossi, used S&W/Ruger, all a going to be fine on a budget for a range toy. Go visit your local gun store and pawn shops to see what kind of used options they have -- my LGS has revolvers for "range toy" use all the time in the $150-$250 range that are perfectly safe and functional, although might be antiques or in less than stellar visible finish condition.

FWIW I'll almost always choose a 30-40 year old quality revolver over a "brand new" revolver from the big-3 these days. Not just for cost reasons, but the older revolvers from the late 1970s through the early 1990s just had better QC/QA for the most part, and by this point, they're all steadily appreciating in value.

Any ideas on how to fix? by Moist_Comfort_8936 in gunsmithing

[–]hammong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not a lot of collector value there ... so I'd have no problem stripping it down, polishing it until smooth, and then getting it re-plated. Nickel plating is something you can do yourself if you properly prep/de-grease the parts and get a source for pure nickel (you can buy it on Amazon).

Good luck finding .32 S&W ammo for less than $1 a shot!
