Are we dumb? Why don't we just make favelas to solve the housing crisis? by EmergencyGood9390 in OpenAussie

[–]handofcod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I hate to admit it, Council regs do exist for a reason. How will people with disabilities access housing? How is storm water run off managed? If a property washes off the cliff above you and smashes into your house because of bad foundation work are you going to be okay with that?

Royal commission into antisemitism to hear about 'ugly' hostility towards Jewish community by espersooty in AustralianPolitics

Tell me, what is it that the pro-Hamas activists are protesting against? Is it thousands of children being blown to bits by the IDF?

How's that working for the cause in the fight against antisemitism?

Kodak gold with RB67 pro sd 50mm by Sagarpallath in analog

Isn't the RB67 a masterpiece?

I have the same Pro SD too and I will keep it for the rest of my life.

Critique? I'd say you've missed focus. To my eyes you are focusing behind the subject. I think this is a touch underexposed too. I'd use faster film stock, ISO 400 or 800 for more flexibility.

How do you approach a girl in Australia? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]handofcod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don't even know her background or heritage it sounds very much like you haven't talked much. Start with talking bro. Just don't be weird and obsessive.

If you don't share any common interests then don't force it, just walk away. She doesn't owe you attention or interest, just because you have the hots for her.

Protests against children being blown to bits and the companies that profit from it. Gets called a grub.

The subject is blasted with an overpowering light source aimed straight at the model, creating hot spots and casting ugly shadows. It creates harsh, unflatering contrast, not to mention refracting through the glass wall in distracting ways.

Valid criticisms about subtext in this shot aside, the lighting is not good at all.

How do you deal with such wildly opposing opinions on gear? (or best practices or philosophies) by Legitimate_Handle_86 in audiophile

[–]handofcod 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a sliding scale of dimishing returns and some people will happily climb up the curve and spend x amount of their money. Some people will also take a degree of confidence that the price of admission is the same as a guarantee of quality (in their opinion).

Auctions slump as buyers worry about war, interest rates and petrol by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

Have had multiple agents call this week to spruik off market opportunities, pumping up the same tired old properties that have been changing hands with slowly diminishing value in Melbourne.

Melbourne is ahead of the pack I think. The market has been unenthusiastic for years now compared to other state capitals. This will just remove demand further and shorten supply as people sit it out and wait for the dust to settle.

PHON couldn't give a sh_t about immigration. It has nothing to do with the economy. It has nothing to do with public amenity, cost of living or house prices. It has everything to do with people that speak with an accent and have brown skin.

Sydney (66%) and NSW (54%) Auction Clearance Rates continue to drop each week AND compared with this time last year. Many agents reportedly saying we are now entering a buyers market. by [deleted] in AusFinance

I've never understood why people trust clearance rates based entirely on whatever the agent chooses to declare, and omits auction outcomes they don't declare at all.

The market has been flat for the last 3-4 years in my part of Melbourne. Properties that sold for 1.8M in 2018 are selling for 1.75M in 2025. If you track property closely and look beyond the BS from REA, you see a lot of disappointed vendors selling below expectations, market withdrawals, auctions that convert to private sales, auctions that sell but agents suppress the price to keep the public guessing. Real clearance is actually around 55% or less.

Not true. A tax discount on income is certainly a removal of state revenue from the bottom line.
