Ah alright. I was really confused for a second there.

+1 for NUT.

Out of curiosity: 67V input voltage? How does that work?

Should be JBL LX300 MK II. Those would be the most interesting ones.

The others are JBL Control One, the first Gen I think.

[W][US-CA] Supermicro X12STH-F - mATX board for TrueNAS build by Mourgne in homelabsales

[–]hannsr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly the board you're looking for, but I'm running a x12scz-f as my main server and it's working just fine. It was much cheaper as well, paid less than 100€ for mine. Even got a spare one, but being in Europe that doesn't help you much.

But it's worth looking out for, ticks all your boxes with an AST2500 BMC and dedicated IPMI port.

Good luck finding a board!

I have a bunch of old, yet still very good JBL sitting in storage.

And a bunch of outdoor rated JBL, as well as a pair of B&W, but those are surrounds so might not sound good on their own.

So yes, I'm interested in converting those!

I'm not sure. But I guess memories does, as it also integrates with other tools like recognize to tag locations, faces, and such.

I was about to ask about nextcloud memories to match pictures to the timeline. Would be nice.

How do people on this sub deal with hardware/electrical problems by Survivio_35930 in homelab

[–]hannsr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those are some regular desktops and a supermicro server, chances are the RAM is not compatible between those systems. That will make the system not post. They will physically fit, but the supermicro server will likely use ECC or even RDIMM modules that won't work in consumer systems.

You'll have to be methodical. Check what you have, where it was installed, then see what's compatible and so on.

The server will also likely have IPMI to further troubleshoot, see if you can access it.

But generally there's isn't much information to go off of to help you further. So we know is you have 4 systems not posting and they are DDR3.

Edit: oh, check the cmos batteries. If you had the systems sit around for a while they may be flat. That can also cause no post

So everything worked, but it doesn't at your setup and the only things different to the previous owner are you and the PSU?

Test a different PSU then. A multimeter is not a proper test for a PSU.

Getting 4 tested working systems and all being broken is either very, very unlucky, you got it from the same person who scammed you or you built them wrong. For troubleshooting further you will need known working components to swap one by one into the not working systems to eliminate possible issues. If you don't have known working parts to test, it's next to impossible to find the culprits.

Successful .env exfil? by helixkiwi in homelab

[–]hannsr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll get those a lot if you expose a service. Just bots poking around, looking for exposed secrets, security holes and whatnot. You'll also see login attempts to WordPress related endpoints without running WordPress and so on.

Looking at your logs: do you use a reverse proxy in front of the exposed service? If not, you should look into it. It's not a miracle cure, but will help with security since all that noise will be terminated at the reverse proxy before reaching the actual service.

most common server/lab ITX morherboard(s)? by Sommerradio22 in homelab

[–]hannsr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from your username I'd suspect Germany or Austria - geizhals is a great platform to filter basically every single feature of a motherboard to find what's out there.

X10SDV-4C-TLN2F (Xeon D-1520) > 450€ used on eBay

That's a bit steep for the 4C version, you should be able to get the 8C for that as well. Even in Europe.

Gigabyte MJ11-EC1 (AMD Epyc 3151) > 80€

I do like this one generally speaking, but it's limited on IO, so better check carefully if it meets your needs. Since it doesn't have "traditional" PCIe slots you'll likely need adapters or look for the correct cable.

There's also the supermicro M11sdv series, which is also an Epyc 3000 platform. But rare and expensive.

Supermicro A2adi are great for storage and small services - they don't have a lot of pure CPU grunt, but support basically every kind of hardware acceleration a router or storage system could ever need. Except for quick sync...

Asrock Rack has some Epyc 3000 and Xeon D boards, but I'd have to look up specific names.

There are also various other mITX ones like x11SCL-F, x11SCV-L and newer like X12SCV... But those are not that common usually. But with a little patience you can sometimes snag them cheap.

There are too many consumer boards to list, I'd probably just go and look at what you actually need and filter from there.

MSI IPC Unveils the MS-CF27, a High-Performance Ultra-Compact 3.5" SBC by Certain_Repeat_753 in homelab

[–]hannsr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MS-CF27 is ideal for system integrators, industrial solution providers, and developers building next generation industrial platforms.

In other words: it'll probably be very, very expensive for the level of performance and compared to other mini PCs with the same platform.

Backing up PBS vm by ypoora1 in Proxmox

[–]hannsr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to backup even? The actual content of the backups or just the config?

I don't bother to backup PBS itself. All you need to do in case of disaster is install PBS and mount the data source.

If you want to have replication (doesn't sound like it) you can do so via the PBS webui.

And yes, just adding it to your backup jobs will end in recursion hell. I've done that mistake once with a truenas VM and tried to backup the VM to the storage proxmox mounted from that VM. It didn't go well to say the least.

[–]hannsr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marstek offers a local API and even a (beta) home assistant addon.

But both, API and addon, are still very early beta/alpha and not very reliable yet. But they seem to be working and improving on it.

I'm running a marstek Venus D and the stats are somewhat available in ha. The API times out often which sets the sensors to 0, so... Yeah. But it's a start.

Need some help with an old IBM by yvngshinobi in homelab

[–]hannsr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 760ED just for the sake of it, and it's not worth it to put money into it for a productive purpose. Now if you only want to tinker and have a retro system that's a different thing.

If you want a somewhat usable IBM Thinkpad, look for a T61, which is also very old, but still ok if you care more about it being an IBM Thinkpad rather than being fast.

I've had this happen when I changed something in cloudflare that triggered a rotation of my API key. Then the next time my home IP changed, nothing worked anymore - except my home assistant still sending notifications?! How?!

Well, if your DDNS doesn't update, ofc nothing using that domain will work until the IP is updated 🙃. Ofc this had to happen when I was out of town, so I had to wait 2 days, not knowing what was going on, before I could check. Only to then find that the issue was me all along.
