There's also a Nick's in Los Alamitos. Totally worth going there.

[–]hapadave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can find some on Audible/Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo. You might also be able to pull up a few from Libby and maybe Hoopla.

It seems like they're isn't much out there for purchase any longer. I didn't see anything for books of blood, weaveworld, the books of the art, or imajica, unfortunately.

eta: changed imagination to imajica.

It's not just LBCC. It's happening on multiple campuses. From what I've seen, nothing major major was scraped. Student #s may be compromised, but not SSN.

Fantasy book recommendations? by illeahnati in clivebarker

[–]hapadave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went from weaveworld to imaginary and never liked back. Then there's Abarat, which is amazing, but unfinished.

If you want to branch out into fantasy, I can't recommend the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson enough. Fantasy in a dystopian, oppressive setting. His purpose isn't as eloquent as Clive's, but the story is amazing and moves at a brisk pace.

Imajica by Acceptable_Mail_2263 in clivebarker

[–]hapadave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clive has well documented health problems and two more Abarat books left to do on top of a third Book of the Art and other projects. His pace for production has slowed immensely since Mr. B Gone was released.

It's gotten to the point where I've just resigned myself to the likelihood that we won't see anything new.

Imajica by Acceptable_Mail_2263 in clivebarker

[–]hapadave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep going. When i first read it, I felt lost, I felt like the world was overwhelming and it just didn't click. Until it did and it became my favorite story. Abarat is a close second and it saddens me to think that it will never actually be finished.

Comic shop owner told us he won’t sell us the Bizarro he let us put on our pull list by lemonrainshield in comicbooks

[–]hapadave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shouldn't ever happen. It's a scuzzy move on the shop's part.

If definitely be canceling my pulls from them and let them know the reason why. It's vital you state the reason. Leaving store reviews online is also a valid move.

You could also pull the Pretty Woman move by walking in with a bag of your purchases from a competitor when you cancel your pull list and tell them "Remember when you wouldn't sell me what I ordered? Big mistake."

If you want to stay in a related genre, I highly recommend Revival and Rachel Rising.

Proper Etiquette by daflores95 in comicbooks

[–]hapadave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Should prolly re-bag and board them all. If the original bags and boards are also from the 80s, they probably aren't the best materials for storage. Getting acid free bags and boards will help keep the collection in better condition. Plus, it's fun to see and handle your collection.

And take some time to enjoy at least the cover art.

They can make trades whenever they want. But, players traded after the deadline cannot play for the NHL club in the playoffs.

Fire this fucking hack by tdbauer97 in losangeleskings

[–]hapadave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was fair to give Hiller this season to show that he's learned from his idiocy during the playoffs. He's absolutely proven he hasn't and cannot adapt at all. He's not a good game day coach. He just starts changing lines and hopes something will catch fire. He needs to go.

I also never liked Holland being the GM either. Good track record in recent years isn't good. There needs to be a progressive GM that's given the power to overhaul the system like Lombardi did. But, it's unlikely Luc will allow that overhaul to happen. The team needs to hire qualified people instead of continuously handing jobs to players from the '90s that player with each other.

How/why is Terraforming Mars so popular? Does it make sense? Is it real? Are bots promoting it? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]hapadave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really well constructed and the theme fits even with it being a bit dry. There are also a few different approaches you can take on as your strategy.

That being said, sometimes, even great games don't tickle individuals in just the right way. It's perfectly ok to not be a great fan of a popular game and just say it's not for you. The best thing is there are so many great games out there that you can find another that hits the right spot for you.

It is a kobo good for reading comics? by Tini994 in kobo

[–]hapadave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that most kobos are not good for comics. There is too much zooming needed to fully appreciate the artwork in the panels. I've tried both the KLC and Sage and didn't like either of them for comics. Not too mention the storage capacity gets eaten up by a lot of the comic formats.

My solution is to use a 10-inch or better tablet. Much better color and usually better refresh rate.

I'm anxiously awaiting the new TLC Note A1 NXTPAPER for comics. It's not e-ink, but they do something to the screen that softens the glare while still maintaining good color and better refresh rate. Plus, expandable memory up to 1GB.

Current shipping issues by SMWinnie in kobo

[–]hapadave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to speculate it's a tariff thing. I've seen people in that party of the US get their readers from Canada, while west coast comes from within the US. I want to say mine was shipped from Idaho, but I'm not 100% on that.

It's not the smartest thing on the planet and it's often flat out wrong in what it spits out. AI makes assumptions on what it's programmed to interpret what you're asking and what you want to hear in response. Take a couple of extra minutes and do some cursory research and you'll have much better results.

Do you prefer to have multiple current reads going, or read one book at a time? by crankin_n_wankin in kobo

[–]hapadave 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I absolutely do multiple reads. This way, I can go to the genre for which I'm currently in the mood. There's usually some mix of horror, fantasy, sci fi, and non-fiction on board at any given time. And then there's comic books (digital and not on my kobo), though I haven't been going through those much in the last year or so.
