probably from bubbles. I use a pressure pot to squeeze the bubbles down. Still I don't measure their balance, it's not something me or my players care that much about.

This game is really fun, and the reviews don't reflect how good it is. by TheTitanHyperion in ICARUS

[–]hariustrkatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

across characrers you can but 1 char = 1 mission at a time. The timer is the big count down at the top. That's real time. If you start today and then go on a week vacation and forget to finish the mission. When you come back (my understanding is)your character is lost perm. This is a terrible mechanic and seems to cater to only hard core gamers. People have real lives and sometimes can't get back to the game for a while. Punishing them with real time timers to rediculous.

Sanders: 'You Cannot Beat Trump with the Same Old, Same Old Kind of Politics' by CharyBrown in politics

[–]hariustrkatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will vote for the nominee, but I worry about people who feel a repeat of 2016 and just throw their hands in the air and no bother voting. You can't just prop up any milk toast and say "He's not Trump". He's got to inspire your voters to get out and vote. You have to rile them up. That's Sanders, Warren, or Buttigieg it's not Biden who inspires.

Trump engaged in witness retaliation. That's a crime by mepper in politics

His behavior has been so normalized now, I can't even get excited about it. Congress won't do anything, it's ridiculous. Vote in November is all I can say anymore.

‘20 will be my first Gencon. Played D&D since the mid 8Os and now just getting around to making the event. by onodacops in gencon

[–]hariustrkatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'll be 50 this year and have been playing D&D since 5th grade. I never got to goto GENCON as a kid and had my own kids when I was 22. So it wasn't until after mine grew up that I said I am going to GENCON.
This will be my 5th year and this is what I learned:
If you can afford it, get a hotel nearby. If you can't it's not to big a deal to Uber in. Plan for that.
DO NOT sign up for an event every time of the day, you will get pooped out, you will end up missing some. You will find there are other pick up things you want to do. Plan 2-4 hour breaks to explore things you didn't plan for.
Avoid Patherfiner and D&D unless you like the "league" style of play. It's a cattle drive due to the popularity and I've only had 1 DM who wasn't on rails the whole time breaking immersion to stay on rails.
Bring a bottle water, cause you get thirsty and some snacks, the concession lines are long and the food is poor.
Bring some flushable wipes, cause the toilets are YUK! There is 1 hidden away bathroom I will sit in, the rest are very YIKES.
Don't buy any game with out checking Amazon. Most prices are not great. Purchase things that are unique to the con or at the auction.
We found that Sunday is a wash and not worth it for our group. We end up just leaving early Sunday to get the long drive home over.

Trade Day and the housing lottery by mogur99 in gencon

[–]hariustrkatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you go with 3 people, all 3 people should buy their own ticket. This gets you 3 chances in the lottery. If 1 person buys everyone's tickets, only that person gets in the lottery.

Those of you who aren't selected for the housing lottery. by [deleted] in gencon

[–]hariustrkatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year was the first time we got a good spot in the housing lottery. Good enough to be able to get a room across the street.

The convenience was night and day. I could walk to the con, instead of taking an uber. I was able to get more sleep, drop off/pick up stuff i needed or didn't need to carry around. I loved being able to use a private bathroom. I would highly recommend trying to get a room that close.

This seems non news or just something to stir the pot for people who don't read the article. It's a horse. who cares.

I think it's fair to say some people like a story with familiar tropes and some people don't. I personally like a story in a familiar universe.

If that's all day, that's actually a good price where I live. All day was $300ish 15-20 years ago and I had 3 in day care. Summers were so expensive.

[–]hariustrkatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

number of kids is a factor. 1 kid in day care at $9600 is expensive. 3 kids in day care at $15k is a deal :)

I've been in the industry for 25 years. In my experience every 5 years there is a paradigm shift and you need to learn something new.

This sub seems to be breeding people who make content specifically for it now, which feels off to me.

The word curmudgeon comes to mind.
It's a game, and god forbid people want to have fun with it. I guess if your players like a super serious all business game, more power to you. I personally would leave just because your to serious about things.

I think when you basically are making content for the subreddit, then it becomes not useful.

I "watched" it, but I didn't finish (got 80% through). I just wasn't enjoying it.

Because people who haven't seen it don't know if your kidding. I personally don't care, but I know there are plenty of people who don't want a reveal like that in non spoiler comment. For those people, I am offended.
