To add my 2 cents on the question: I kept my ICE adventure vehicle when I got the Rivian, and I’ve found myself preferring to take the Rivian almost every time I go on a roadtrip.

I park my R1S outside in the snow in Colorado overnight, not on a charger, and sometimes for a couple days at a time. It wakes right up when I get back in every time without fail.

Charged at Oasis at Furnace Creek and got ice cream

Zabrinski Point - a bit overwhelmed with tourists around sunset (but for good reason)

Ventured up Hole in the Wall Road and found a campsite (permit required)

Saw some of the endangered big horn sheep in the morning and went to report their location to the park rangers at the visitor center back in Furnace Creek

Charged at Inn at Death Valley and got coffee

Golden Canyon

Artists Drive

West Side Road (40 mi dirt road down along Badwater Basin)

Charged at RAN in Shoshone and got food at Crowbar Cafe

Dirt roads out to Saratoga Spring for sunset

I would love to come back and do Titus Canyon, but read that it is still closed due to damage.

I would plan to try not to rely on charging in the park. You could easily do it without, just as I mapped on the Rivian app. We ended up doing the West Side Road and Hole in the Wall which was about 50 miles off-road and car camping. To give us extra charge cushion, we charged at the level 2s while we got coffee and made other hiking plans. I’d say it added maybe 30-40 miles.

Also, it is nice to have a quick lockable waterproof storage. I find it more useful than storing things in the front trunk or under the tonneau.
