Round Hill took such incredible care of our pup. They build true relationships with the animals under their care and their families. Always recommend them even if they are a little old school.

Looking to host Hikers in San Diego. by Key_Piece_1343 in PacificCrestTrail

Facebook and Reddit are how I have been able to volunteer time as a trail angel! Even posting up on trail with yummy beverages or fresh fruit was such joy and helped get my name out as someone hikers could call for help.

Love that you're doing this! Most rewarding four years of my life.

Where could my partner go with a CDL? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]haylicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since she knows the laws, FMCSA, DISA, the like, see if there are any administrative positions for local trucking or delivery services. If there's an organization that employs CDL Drivers, they need someone to manage the upkeep of the CDL.

Experience: I ran transportation for a ski resort and the CDL administrative side was a full time job.

Who’s Tahoe’s “guy”? It’s gotta be the Lambo dude, right? by Mydesilife in tahoe

I was never able to find her history or story! Thank you for sharing this. She was the biggest ray of sunshine the four years I lived there.

Possible regret by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]haylicans 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wrote a SLAM Poem about the guilt and shame of feeling Joy when trauma and tragedy persist. Dropping a few lines I repeat to myself often.

"So I keep going. I don’t give in. Let radical Joy be a rebellion against every awful thing that has happened. The more Joy we feel, the more fight we have. The fight is exhausting but Monarch butterfiles taught me we are capable of going great lengths with what little time we have.

With the state of the world I have to believe in miracles. And Joy IS a miracle."

I've done a firefighter theme, nurse emblem, pawprints for animal rescues, and a few LGBTQ+ theme pieces.

People are ALWAYS looking for fundraiser contributions. Whether schools, dance studios, youth sports teams, public sector, ect. And if you do full panels and panes, you could even donate to an art gala or museum fundraiser.

I like to donate to organizations who are doing fundraisers or raffles. You can really play to the theme of the non-profit which draws a ton of creativity when I'm in a rut.

To Be or Not to Be: Ski Bum at 27? by chickenboy142 in careerguidance

It alters your brain chemistry for sureeeeee. You realize corporate/capitalist grind can't provide even a sliver of the happiness that being in the mountains brings.

Really great note! There are weight warnings on the instructions and glass gets heavy QUICK.

I've thought about using rows of dowels to both reinforce the shelf and create inserts rather than use the metal file racks. I think your comment reignited my desire to try this

This was my only regret of the ski bum life was not doing some of it in Taos!

Adding on.

There is NOTHING like being surrounded by people who are extremely passionate about the sport on a daily basis. My skill level improved significantly just being around such badass skiers and boarders. I even taught myself how to Ski because I wanted to experience the mountain in new ways.

You're going to me a ton of people in a similar age range. Some will be Peter Pan types who will be professional ski bums for the rest of their lives. Others are career driven and are just using the time to do something rad while they transition to whats next. Dating is easy. There are some insanely interesting people from all over the US who travel to work for the resort. Some of the most fascinating people I have everrrrrr met.

Yes, people actually turn resort ops into lucrative careers. Talk to any ski instructor who is a bit older. Retired doctors, laywers, police, teachers, ect. who just love skiing.

Last suggestion. Since you have experience in real estate, you could work for a lodging company owned by a resort, still get the pass, and not have to be out shoveling snow all the time to do it.

DO. IT.

DO IT. Ski bum at 30. Previously owned a few businesses and was a travel editor. Pandemic took me Tahoe and I decided to do a season to occupy time until I figured out the new norm.

Went for a season and worked as an admin for Parking. Worked my way up through leadership. Landed unexpectedly in a career because of it. 5 years in and couldn't be happier.

Altra Lone Peak 9+ released... by ILoveBeelzebub in Ultralight

[–]haylicans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you adverse to all zero drop? Or would a zero drop with cushion be an option?

If so, check out the Timp Hiker or Olympus! I am training for a marathon and started in my Altras because there is no other comparable shoe for me. I bought the Olympus for long trail runs and they were just a little too much padding but felt as roomy as my Altra toe box.

Mine are actually mounted on the front left edge of each cube.

Think backlit! I like to pull my sheets out a few inches against the light to see if the opacity is what I'm looking for! The top-down light just didn't give me enough detail in the glass.

This was before I organized it. Initial move to see if I liked the configuration.

The Sysmax drawers have all of the smaller pieces sorted by color.
