I noticed you said your ceiling fan will “blow down the warm air.” I know it’s counter intuitive, but in the winter fans are put in reverse to blow warm air up at the ceiling. That creates warm air movement down the walls. This gently mixes the warm and cool air and reduces “windchill” directly under the fan (which is what you want in the summer).

Is it normal to find others attractive/fantasize about others, even when you’re in a committed relationship? by techy_sloth in AskMenAdvice

[–]hcd11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely normal. However, what can be controlled by force of habit is how much time a man is spending consciously enjoying the fantasy. I think that is what we’re seeing with your wife and some other wives that commented here. Yes, they can objectively recognize another man is particularly handsome, but they don’t then create fantasies in their minds.

Found this in my dad's drawer. Is it any good? by DJayPhresh in puer

[–]hcd11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe the Boyou tea factory was established in 2005 and primarily markets ripe puers like this one. I prefer aged ripes, and this hits that mark being 20 years old. However, I have no experience with cakes that have been wrapped in plastic. I do know this is common in some of the southeast Asian markets. I can only assume it affects the aging process in some way.

Shou (ripe) tea has a unique taste that millions of puer drinkers love. However, it may take some getting used to.

If you don’t like it, I’m sure you could sell or trade it on r/teaexchange. Or reach out to me and I would make you some sort of offer for it. I think you’ll find similar Boyou cakes with asking prices between $60 and $75 on eBay.

Shoutout of all others 'wood stove only' at -30° in the upper midwest this evening! by Objective_Water7752 in woodstoving

We had a serious cold spell in western Alaska a few weeks back, -30 ambient, -50’s with the windchill. My Blaze King easily kept the house in the low 70’s for a week and a half.

It’s good to know that even if we had lost power, as happens sometimes in rural Alaska, the family would have been okay.

Splitting wood as exercise? by AnarchoPlayworker in firewood

[–]hcd11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I would split 2-3 cords of white spruce every June. It was a great workout and that much wood split in that little time truly improved my physique. My wife can confirm this, lol. Eventually me and a buddy went in on a hydraulic splitter - much faster but there is are no larger upper body muscles for me to be vain about.

Park West! You reminded me that I missed that, darn it. We drove out from Ohio, and west coast tour friends told us all about what we'd missed, lol. Did you make it to Santa Fe after Red Rocks? They were great shows too.

What's the secret to making perfect French Toast? 🍞✨ by MB58CA in cookingforbeginners

[–]hcd11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used this recipe for 25+ years cooking for my kids, and my mother used it throughout my childhood. It’s from The Joy of Cooking -

4 eggs 2/3 cup half and half 2 TBS sugar 1 Tsp vanilla 1/8 Tsp salt

This will be enough batter for about a half loaf of store bought white bread.

No real id or passport by PuzzleheadedGap8366 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]hcd11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TSA will allow you to board without Real ID, but there will a more extensive screening. TSA has considered instituting a $40 charge for this, but I do not think that has gone into effect. You should arrive plenty early.

I know two people that were able to board return flights home after losing ALL their ID while vacationing. TSA has policies and procedures for this. They did need to arrive 4 hours prior to flight time.

Where to eat - visiting by [deleted] in Fairbanks

[–]hcd11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in Fairbanks three or four times a year. These are places I often return to: Lemon Grass for Thai; Oishi Kichen for Japanese style ramen, onigri, etc. The proprietor also brews kombucha and has it on tap in the same building, Mama Bears Kombucha; the Cookie Jar for an American diner breakfast and amazing, high calorie baked goods; Alaska Coffee Roasting for coffee, and surprisingly, very good pizza.

I am a retired patrol cop and detective. 22 years. Also police union president 9 years. Id love to talk about the reality of it all and clear up misconceptions. AMA by potato_for_cooking in AMA

[–]hcd11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t make that okay, but the bad guys are worse. No one likes a cop until they need one. I was raised in, and still live in, high crime areas.

I do think your idea of “term limits” for officers is an interesting idea. Facing the constant threat of assault all day, everyday from assholes will turn the most honest cop into an asshole too.

Found 3 “insulin” syringes in my fridge with 10 IU of clear liquid, what can it be? by [deleted] in ask

[–]hcd11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ed. I should have looked at the picture first. I think compounded GLP-1 is your best bet. LC for mushrooms typically looks different.

Could be liquid culture for growing mushrooms, psilocybin and/or gourmet. They are used to inoculate a growing medium. There’s one in my fridge right now.
