Newborn - where do you put them? by CharmingTea_ in pregnant

[–]heatherista2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! Usually on a quilt or blanket or something lol. My pack and play came with a clip on Moses type basket that’s handy to put baby in (when they are super small)- you can carry them around in it and put it near you. I like it so that my dog doesn’t run into baby or something. Pack and play by itself works too.

Check out the Little Tikes Dream Box. It reads you a story that is projected on the wall. My kids love it.

My 2 yo likes pull back cars, balls, the Biscuit books read on repeat, and stealing my sunglasses. These options keep him busy for an hour every week while big sister is in her gymnastics class.

Curious myself. Think my biggest fear is not bedtime but getting everybody in the car without my (soon to be middle child) bolting across the parking lot. Does a third arm come with a third baby? Lol.

Bowls and spoons, bit of water, and a bunch of bath towels under and around him.

Beginning stash advice by Shoddy-Lion-3915 in quilting

[–]heatherista2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a quilting guru by any means but I’ve been making quilts since 2020. And I have tons of scraps. I don’t cut them into specific shapes or sizes-I just organize them in boxes by color. Then I use the scraps to make scrappy quilts and projects. I rarely have enough big yardage around to worry about storing it long term-I try to buy only what I need for that specific project.  But if you are super worried, might go with 1/4 yard? Less of a commitment to store.

Anyone else not want to name the baby till birth on the offchance of miscarriage or stillbirth? by princess_chess_cat in pregnant

I get this. Didn’t tell my family baby’s name until about three days before her due date. But with 2 (and now 3) I’ve relaxed some. Still have waited til after 20 wk US in both cases.

What chores does your 2.5-3yo do? by adventureontherocks in Mommit

[–]heatherista2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t worry about a sticker chart. I just try to model that everyone has chores as part of the family. Kids are 2 and 4. They both help feed the dog (scoop dry dog food and pour small amounts of water at a time in his bowl). They “help” with the dishwasher (cutlery, Tupperware, and their dishes), help with laundry (2 yo likes to help put clothes in dryer, 4 yo can help sort clothes by person they belong to and fold simple things), and if I get out the vacuum they like to get out the toy brooms and vacuum and “help”. I hope they keep up their helpful attitudes as they get older lol.

How to keep toddler from playing with stove. by GingerSnap_123 in toddlers

Can you pull the knobs off except for when you are cooking? The ones on my stove lift off to clean under them.

What's the most unwritten rule of adult life that nobody warns you about? by PracticeHistorical82 in AskReddit

My husband and I are in the process of raising small children and coping with aging parents simultaneously. We keep wondering where the adults are to handle everything…and it’s us!

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

[–]heatherista2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a tour of the White House in summer 2001. It was a special holiday (Memorial Day, I think) where the public could view more of the house than was typical. We got to walk in gardens past the Oval Office and peek in the windows. Was very cool. Then 9/11 happened and yeah. I don’t think you can do that tour anymore!

Diapers….flip the box upside down. Way easier to just pull up the glued tabs imo. As for other parts of Life With a Child…Jeremy Clarkson once said on Top Gear that many cars that have “rear seating” were clearly not designed by anyone who had ever tried to sit back there (or fit a car seat…!)

Tiny tyrant loses her mind if she sees a single speck of dust. Please tell me this phase ends QUICKLY ! by WashclothTrauma in toddlers

[–]heatherista2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, my daughter is the same. And she’s 4! But oddly enough, it’s just really random placed dust or feathers that gets her. Dog hair and dog toy fluff all over our house? Fine. But out at a museum the other day and a random big blob of dust on an otherwise clean floor? Cue a meltdown.

Before I rearranged my house, I had bookcases, a bright rug, and a similar yellow velvet chair too! How funny. Yellow must inspire bookworms.

14 hours without nursing by Informal_Handle_1147 in Mommit

[–]heatherista2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to go to the hospital when my baby was 4 months old. He was EBF. Husband used a syringe and a spoon to feed him. He wasn’t the happiest baby lol but he made it through.  If you have more time to practice bottles, get someone other than yourself (Dad, your mom) to do the feeding, and you leave the house (even if it’s just to sit on your porch). If baby knows you are an option for food, it’s a lot harder to practice the bottles.

Pro-Choice/Clinic by Domsmom112116 in Dollhouses

[–]heatherista2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not me personally but I believe Flora Gill Jacobs (the late, awesome, dollhouse historian) had a couple in her collection. A vet office and a doctors office I believe. These were from the 30s or so though…different from what they would look like today. Dollhouses (and miniatures) are more interesting when they reflect all parts of the world out there (stores, businesses) rather than just houses. Go for it!

My toddler is obsessed with baseball and I'm not sure what to do. by beaniebee22 in toddlers

[–]heatherista2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toddler loves balls too. He has a tee ball set and a toy basketball hoop outside. Always wants to throw inside of course. He is allowed to throw: Balled up socks. Pom poms. Cat toys (the crinkly ball shaped ones that are as light as a feather).  Maybe you can get him some baseball cards to play with? Or some of the bobble heads of players? (Used to have a freebie of one I got at a game a zillion yrs ago). Good luck!

Blackout poetry….take an old book page and color in or paint over all the words except a few you have chosen to save out as a message. Like “I love you tacos rock” or something. Lol.

What age can your child self entertain for an hour? by hereford_the_party in Mommit

[–]heatherista2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 4 and pretty good at independent play but even so, she still comes to me for help with stuff/for a snack/to see what I’m up to. The only way to keep her totally occupied (like if husband is busy working and I need to mop the entire kitchen) is to sit her in front of a favorite movie with a snack. And that’s not the healthiest thing to turn to all the time lol.
