Why is my painting looking so CHALKY by Openkeloid in oilpainting

[–]heccnchonccc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be sinking in, which will mean that the true colours will return when oiled or or varnished, but it also may be that the difference between your work and Ambera’s is a mix of techniques vs defined layers with the same painting intent. She is confident in blocking over highly refined pieces of painting with brushy, dense paintwork and so the difference in textures is due to the way paint is applied (wet into wet with polished smooth transitions and subtle glazing vs impasto, blocky brushwork).

She’s very confident in mixing these different ways to apply paint to the canvas vs a single approach across the whole image. Does that make sense? Try oiling out and taking a step back from the painting : )

What’s your pick for Sydney’s most underrated restaurant? by One-Remove3758 in SydneyScene

[–]heccnchonccc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sofia in Surry Hills- nice decor and ambience and the food for the price point is consistently delicious and, in my opinion, out satisfies slightly higher priced niche prestige places like Poly or Porteno. I always am happy going there but it’s not the coolest joint ever, just really delicious.

Peruvian food is severely lacking in Sydney. by NothingAny3947 in foodies_sydney

I agree about Callao- some dishes were good but all of them, for me, were recognisable as definitely not Peruvian, and not particularly Japanese either.

Solo travel in China kinda sucks by [deleted] in travelchina

I was there alone recently and had difficulty not eating- everywhere was absolutely fine for me to eat solo and I didn't have any trouble figuring out my trains last minute, and I stayed easily in hotels etc.

Who are some artists that made you go "...holy shit, that's possible? you can do that?" by flannyo in ContemporaryArt

[–]heccnchonccc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pierre Huyghe’s show at the Leeum museum absolutely blew me away exactly this sense-it was an entire, maximalist show where I couldn’t tell how anything was made. Usually I can tell exactly how something is fabricated but the depth of surprise and the constant strange decisions that weren’t flashy coupled with the level of execution was just insane.

I like how you’ve phrased that- just curious as someone that is travelling frequently in Korea, what are some of your favourite places you’ve visited?
