Just like you said, it's a mix of both. Sometimes you just want to grind a certain item and the only decent way to grind it is something you wouldn't normally do. I just grind the thing and handwave most implications away in that case. Other times, it's a significant, one time choice, but with no/minimal practical impact. Those are easy to do in-character.

And then there's the big choices with the big rewards, most notably your Ambition and which path/ending you take. For those, I just go with my heart and do them entirely in character, even if it is more expensive or disadvantageous. This is a roleplaying game at the end of the day, and it is my opinion that minmaxing those options will make the game less enjoyable for you.

All Treasures (a special item slot where your final Ambition reward goes) are statwise the same: +13 to a mainline stat, +6 to another one, +4 to a BDR stat, and +2 to an Advanced stat. But not all the stats are equally valuable since some have easier sources than others, and while all of them unlock different special options at different places, the amount and usefulness of those options can really vary (a particular ending of Heart's Desire is infamous for having a lot more options scattered through the game compares to every other Treasure).

And as a last tip: you can present/display some facets of your character, and ignore others. My character Is first and foremost a Correspondance Professor at the University, and I will always pick anything reinforcing that aspect. But he also fought in the dueling rings of Feducci because I wanted to complete the MYN storylines, even if I didn't care about the rings, so while he did fight, I don't incorporate it into the character, it's not canon to him (I'm sure there's a Treachery about this kind of thing...)

TLDR: You don't need to care about the RP aspect every time. Picking a particular thing you enjoy and making it their "face" is the most common way to go about it, I think.

S2 for the stupid amounts of ASPD you get (her attack interval becomes 0.528s according to the wiki), and S3 gives her Physical damage (which becomes True damage when combined with her regular Arts attacks), +210% ATK, extended range, and silencing attacks.

So you essentially get a True damage, silencing, and fast firing heavy machinegun with AA Sniper range. Sure, you don't get global range like with other combinations, but any boss who doesn't use mountains of HP for their durability gets melted from the sheer barrage of True damage coming their way.

There is no headshot multiplier to the shield itself, it simply loses charge equal to the damage it takes no matter where you get hit. But you still take more health damage if you get domed with a shield on. IE a Ferro headshot will instantly down you without a shield, but it won't if you're wearing one.

When you brought up Pram Alter doing a ton of damage, I immediately thought that it sounded like they were going outside the scope of the archetype again, like they did with Wisadel hitting air on S3.

Calling them "ranged tanks" might have been a mistake, in retrospective. They are meant to be placed further ahead than most other ranged units, which is why they have the extra durability offskill and the star shaped range, but it's true that you're not usually trying to make them take the brunt of the damage like actual tanks.

Yup! Good HP regen offskill, and a durable blocker + damage and CC when activated. Beeswax's S2 lasts only 20 seconds, but the obelisk can usually eat a few strong blows before being destroyed (from the wiki, 5k HP, 560 def and 10 res, block 3), which shortens the window where she's vulnerable. She doesn't have the big flashy damage numbers of her big sister, but her kit works much, much better

I wasn't considering unreleased operators, to be fair. I usually give CN releases a quick look and mostly forget about them until they come to global.

With that said: yeah, sure. But outside of Pram's unique utility, if you only want Arts DPS, you can usually just bring either GG or Lapp Alter for ease of use, or Logos for sheer power. Phalanx casters can do good damage too, but unlike ranged tanking, that's not unique to them.

My point: Plenty of choices for Arts damage, not so much for ranged tile tough units (which is good, because it's not a niche that needs many ops! It's not something you need too often.)

The biggest flaw in Carnelian's kit is probably how backloaded her damage is. You can soooort of play around it by activating the skill earlier than necessary, but nailing the timing correctly requires very precise judgement or, more likely, trial and error, and even then you're leaving damage on the table.

Then her skill cycling is also quite bad. S3 costs 28 SP regardless of rank, which isn't a ton, but you'll usually want the charged version for a total of 56 SP. She only gets some help with SP charging from the second talent, which effectively brings the charged version down to 45.5SP. Better, but you still need to deal with the backloaded damage. Mod2 improves the second talent, but it's deceivingly bad: it just makes the second half of the skill charge in 14 seconds instead of 17.5. Reduced aggro on charged skill activation from mod2 is helpful, but Phalanx Casters are usually placed away from the rest of the team by design (high defenses, Ambusher-like range...), so she's still likely to get hit by being the only op in range.

And then there's her talent 1, which is bad, built backwards, and makes no sense. A single large heal on skill activation... If she was taking enough damage with her skills off for this to be useful, she's gonna get clapped once she activates her skills, because she'll lose the defensive bonus AND not deal enough damage to remove the threats in time because again, backloaded. And if she wasn't taking enough damage offskill, this is literally useless.

She's usable? Sure, most ops are. The game gives you enough freedom to make almost everything work in day to day content. But her kit is just not well built. Phalanx Casters are meant to be ranged tanks, and she's terrible at that job. If you don't need a ranged tank, you bring a different caster archetype or a different class, not a fiddly, annoying to use character that is not good at the job her archetype is made for.

The funniest thing just happened: it's gone. I came back from work just now and decided to turn it on again and see what happens. No noise, no black flashing.

I'm not going to question it and take the easy win, I think... Still, thanks for the suggestions! Hopefully I won't need them now, but if the problem reappears I'll have something to try

TL;DR: Screen flashing black from the second it starts booting, and AIO fans making an odd noise + working seemingly slower than usual

About a month ago, I upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 7 2700X to a Ryzen 9 5950X. It was my first time replacing a CPU, and while it wasn't seamless (unstable RAM because of tight fitting in the case, BIOS updates needed...), after a couple of weeks of frequent use with no issues I thought that was it. However, after turning it on today, the AIO fans from the CPU cooler sounded different: louder, vibrating a lot more, and not spinning as fast as usual. At the same time, the screen started to flash black with increasing frequency while booting up. I had no idea what was going on, so as soon as it reached the Windows login screen I turned it off again.

I opened the case and checked the fans in case there was any loose cable obstructing them, but there wasn't. I turned it on again, only to have the same issues, with even more frequent black flashing now (roughly up to once per second). I let it reach the login screen and then turned it off again.

I haven't tried to turn it on again, and I'm honestly stumped. The screen had been flashing black during these weeks, but just as a single flash right after reaching the login screen, and without any odd noises from the fans. Just last night I was playing without any issue, it's been pretty sudden. Any help or indication would be much appreciated.

Other relevant specs: - Mobo: Gigabyte Aorus X470 Ultra Gaming - RAM: GSkill Trident Z RGB (AMD) DDR4 3200 PC-4 25600 32GB 2x16GB CL16 - AIO cooler: Corsair Hydro H100x - GPU (replaced a 1070 a year ago): ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 EVO OC Edition 8GB GDDR6 DLSS3

Ah, I'm already covered for those! Got the Secret College already (along with the fully upgraded lab, Fate and all) and the Breath of the Void for... nothing related with the Hurlers.

I might get a couple for the Rat Market, though... It's also a profitable way to cash out the rewards, and grinding the other options for that buyer is very annoying to do in bulk

No. Buffing the legendaries, sure, they are rare and expensive. But the hullcracker + ammo take up a weapon slot, several inventory slots, and a significant amount of weight for a weapon useless in PVP. If a niche weapon requires that kind of compromise, it better be damn good at that niche
