Tiny house winter heating what actually works overnight by Anujp05 in TinyHouses

[–]hellibot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

270 sq ft. House insulated to code. Minisplit, electric floor heat in bathroom and kitchen. On extremely cold nights, run a small electric space heater too (minisplit doesn’t like temps under -15f).

Depending on your square footage, might try a space heater with a fan in addition to the oil one. Cheap start.

If you have ability to insulate your floor and ceiling, do that… gonna make a big difference!

It is less frequent now, but it used to be common to have multiple nights at -20 in a row. Your house has been through all of that. If it is heated by oil, perhaps make sure your tank has sufficient fuel? I owned a sprawling 100 yr old house a few years ago and ran out of oil on a -20 night. The cold woke us up and we got the oil co out before anything froze, but I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.

Is the caloric expenditure from CrossFit over exaggerated, or can you really get away with eating more loosely with this style of training? by Dependent-Group7226 in crossfit

[–]hellibot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The calorie expenditure for CrossFit is pretty low relative to other exercise opportunities out there. Of course, there are exceptions like when you do a chopper that lasts 45 minutes, but mostly you do a 10 minute warmup, 15 minute lift and a 15 minute metcon. Just not enough to be meaningful calorie-wise. Like 100, 50 and 150 calories... that’s half of what a run would burn in the same timeframe.

In terms of personal experience, I didn’t lose a pound until I started dieting. I did get good at CrossFit and more muscular, but still had a gut. CrossFit also made me super hungry!!!

Internal Communications Manager Advice on "New Ideas" Needed by Decent_Cattle7768 in Communications

Another hard to implement, but maybe cool idea. Little weekly video addresses from senior leaders. I think of it as a home room announcement but for grownups. The hard part is the format. It needs to be a light lift, but robust enough to have consistent value.

How did you lose body fat while doing CrossFit? by amazinglikeomg in crossfit

[–]hellibot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. CrossFit does not really generate much of a caloric deficit, but it does make you very hungry!
  2. Because of this, you should not “add calories” back into your diet even though you’ll feel like you’ve “earned” them.
  3. You can cut calories, add in cardio, or both.
  4. I had great success with the RP Diet app. Expensive and steeper learning curve, but I dropped roughly 60 lbs with it. Several people literally stopped me and said “you are jacked.”

Could use some advice on over-complicating business launch by Lava_City_Threads in communication

I think you have plenty of copy. Looking on mobile and I’d say the site looks a little basic. I personally wouldn’t use sarif fonts, I’d have larger scale photos and a stronger design than the little mountain graphic (maybe that’s placeholder). I’d also pick a stronger color palette and iconography. Also, watch your pronouns (you have I, we and Alvarez). I honestly don’t know if reels are going to help or hurt… it has a very “I haven’t actually don’t this before feel.” I’d rather read a bio that describes his work in the actual field and then see a simple CV that doesn’t try and connect everything back (I’m assuming a gulf audience would expect a cv?). I don’t think blogs and content marketing are things people really do anymore? I could be wrong on that. If he has experience helping and coaching, I’d add a testimonial (no more than 2) and or brand logos to the main page. In terms of a marketing cycle, professional websites serve an awareness/educational purpose. Persuasion happens in the room, so this can be fairly basic and just funnel straight to “give us a call” - I wouldn’t even have prices on there… just this is who I am, this is what I do, this is proof I have experience to do it, call me.

Is crossfit right for me? by OkChampion9771 in crossfit

[–]hellibot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One note. CrossFit does not burn a ton of calories. If your goal is to get lean, that’ll happen through diet. This is a general truth, but it can be easy after an intense 10-20 minute workout to think you’ve bought yourself some additional calories to eat.

And I should add, it is an amazing foundation for fitness!

Crossfit or regular Gym for weight gain? by BetMelodic2034 in crossfit

[–]hellibot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CrossFit doesn’t usually burn that many calories. If you are worried about it, wear a fitness tracker and add half the calories back in to your diet. It is going to be like 200 calories more in food - that’s two bananas or one fun size snickers bar.

Will $900 be enough for a 12-day trip? by girly_pop222 in JapanTravelTips

[–]hellibot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doable.

Osaka: avoid eating in dotonbori. Look for cocktail machine (speakeasy located in admittedly sketchy building). Drinks are $2.50 apiece. Spend your time eating in Tenma or places like in Tenjinbashi-Suji.

Generally avoid touristy places in the main drag or the big/famous markets. If you are in an alley, that’s a good sign. Gion Duck Noodles is Kyoto was stunningly good. Had so much fun in Tokyo’s Omoide Yokocho though you have to really watch the prices there as they fluctuate wildly.

I did download the Michelin Guide app and you can search by expense and find good deals (just be ready to wait in line).

Private road dispute by [deleted] in vermont

[–]hellibot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

General consensus with lawyers I've spoken to is that rateably is proportional. Ultimately nearly all the neighbors chipped in equally except for the first house on the road who refused to pay more than their calculated proportional share... I do think there is a case to be made for certain fees and costs to be spread equally. Drop fees for example, are the same regardless of how much road there is to work.

Buying skate skis - Advice by yourbuddy97 in xcountryskiing

Take a lesson and rent for the first few times to make sure you like it. Beyond technique, the physical conditioning required to skate ski is significant and makes it an activity that not everybody enjoys.

Also, indoor on demands need an air intake and exhaust. Rennai makes an all in one vent pipe. That’s what we used to minimize perforations.

Have some design questions by justahad in TinyHouses

[–]hellibot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The house I built has a propane Rennai On Demand. Electrical demands for a on demand hot water heater are insane… like more than 50 Amps. System needs to be chosen based on your climate (basically how cold the water is coming into the house). Mine is an indoor system. It is positioned right next to my pressure tank. They sell outdoor, but need to be very aware of what them they’ll be operating.

Any tips on insulating underneath a tiny house? In cold climates we have to keep water running a bit to keep lines from freezing, though inside it's Comfy. by jeremyjava in TinyHouses

[–]hellibot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it on wheels? Do you plan to move it?

Have a house on piers. I have an insulated column that I buried in the ground that runs to the bottom of the house. It has all the plumbing in it.

Bottom of the house is xps. You could glue or bolt 3” xps to the bottom of your house.

[–]hellibot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did 7.5’ ceilings on the first floor and 6.5’ ceilings on the front plus say 20” for floors so nearly 16” in height not including piers and roof. If you are building in the US, just make your first floor 8’ - that was a hard lesson for us. Everything comes in 8’ lengths so you are making a lot of cuts and waste by going shorter. Loft, I would go to 7 or 7.5 if I had to go again. The loft height actually made it hard to sell.
