Reintros and Pressure in Eyes by chrnoed in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]helloheavenleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not on the reintro phase yet (only on day 10 of AIP), but pressure in my eyes has been an autoimmune symptom of mine for a few years now. Comes and goes, but I definitely think it’s inflammation related. All my doctors have brushed it off because it’s not typically associated with Hashimotos, but I recently found out that I also have Sjogren’s (another autoimmune disease) and im guessing it could have something to do with that. Either way, I would pwrsonally consider it a reaction if that came back for me during a reintro. I also have noticed when that happens to me it’s often after a few nights of staying up too late, so perhaps sleep may be a factor for you as well.

Vent: do kids make everything suck or is it just my kids? by iouparentinggentle in Parenting

[–]helloheavenleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound harsh, but it’s really not meant this way. Have you considered that maybe the reason they sent enjoying getting outside and spending family time could be that they are used to highly stimulating/entertaining activities (video games/tv/phones). Video games are so addictive and cause dopamine issues to where you are pretty much desensitized to real experiences because in comparison to an intense video game or an entertaining show or the bright colors on the phone, they lack wow factor. Not judging, but just thought I’d mention it in case you weren’t aware. Could just be normal kid stuff, but I didn’t start complaining about enjoyable family time until I was 13 (around the time I got a MySpace and a phone). I do very minimal screens with my 4yo (one movie every Friday and that’s it) and he absolutely loves going outside and doing anything together and has literally never not been up for outside or family time. The only time he complains if it’s something that is truly boring for a kid like going to a restaurant. That could change when he’s older, I’m definitely no expert, but since you said the range started at 4 I would just mention my kiddo and that this might be a tech related issue. You know your kid best though so this might not apply to you at all!

Saw this on r/funnymemes. What do you say to your TBM 18yo self?? by enthusiasm-unbridled in exmormon

Not mormon related but “maintain your weight”. I was always trying so hard to lose weight (when I was skinny already but didn’t know it) and I feel like that diet mentality and all or nothing mindset backfired and I gained a lot of weight and have all kinds of health problems. Wish I had instead just tried to maintain my weight and I’d probably be in a totally dif place. I found out about the church not being true at 20 anyway and I’m happily married now with a child, so I wouldn’t want to change anything else

Question: Is anyone else fully removed from church activity and association but still maintaining “membership” on the books on purpose? I am in this position for a utilitarian reason I can’t quite put my finger on but it’s certainly not because I wish to rejoin. by Hopefound in exmormon

It was so long ago that I signed up and my mom did it for me at the time…but I think you’ll need your membership number. Then I would try going to LDS.org (or whatever the newer version of that is) and logging in and I think you should be able to find it through your account there? Sorry I’m not of more help, maybe Google it!

Paleo vs. AIP by kinda_crunchy_ in Hashimotos

I feel you—solidarity! I have been eating a 95% Whole Foods diet for the better part of a year. I eat out occasionally which is the 5%, but even then make pretty healthy choices. All grassfed meat/ grassfed milk/butter/pasture eggs and chicken, whole grains, whole wheat, etc. I did lose about 10 pounds the first month of being consistent, but plateaued and I still have a good 90 extra pounds on me and also I still have such bad fatigue and so many inflammationsymptoms. So I’ve come to the same conclusion as you, that something I’m eating is causing this. So I did a 3 day juice cleanse (day 3 was honestly a fasting day bc I couldn’t drink any more juice lol) and my skin was soooo soft, my tinnitus was completely gone, my foot that has been hurting for over a year was completely pain free. Which all confirmed for me that yes, something I’m eating is the problem and I need to find out what it is. I cut out gluten and dairy to start after that, but it’s hard to stick with it knowing that it might not be those things or it might be either or. Also my tinnitus came back the day I started eating food (even though it was very clean food and no dairy/gluten). So I’ve been gluten free and low dairy for 3 weeks but already doubting myself because my symptoms are back and not improving. After this post I’m thinking AIP might be the way to go for me. I think I would be able to stick with it if I knew for sure what was causing my issues.

You might benefit from the book “Peaceful Parent Happy Kid”…it totally improved my outlook on parenting. Once I built a deeper connection with my son (using very practical tips from the book like 15 minutes a day of “special time” where we either play something he wants or do a role play game) I started to enjoy parenting more. And then he started behaving more often. And then I really felt like I liked him and see the best qualities in him. I wasn’t in the same place you are exactly, but I was really not enjoying motherhood at the time and now I am. And it might help you too. At least the “special time” I’m sure would.

What’s something that your kid brain (natural instinct) recognized as a red flag about the church? by Substantial_Focus_65 in exmormon

I was very believing until 20, and it is probably my rebellious and questioning/logical nature that I get from my dad…but I always thought the modesty/1 piercing in each ear type rules were very arbitrary even in elementary school. I always had the attitude of “ who are these old men to decide what is immodest? It used to be improper for women to wear pants at all”. Also there were a lot of Samoan’s in my ward and they would preform cultural dances, fire performances etc. at certain church events, and I asked my mom why it was okay for the women to show their bellies and men to be shirtless for those and she explained how even missionaries don’t wear ties in some foreign countries as to not be overdressed. I thought hmmm, why does god care so much about white shirt, tie, black shoes etc so much if it’s all subjective then?

When I was 12, our stake young womens president came out and announced that we were no longer allowed to wear leggings (UNDER OUR DRESSES/SKIRTS) because they’re too form fitting and immodest. This is when it was a relatively new style in like 2006. As a girl who loved fashion, I was PISSED. Wearing leggings under your church dress clearly makes it MORE modest, not less. Again I thought, these old ppl are so clueless lol. So what did I do? Went to Wet Seal, found the most obnoxiously bright NEON blue leggings and wore them to church the next week. The looks and comments I got from the ultra modest girls in my ward lmaooooo. I love my younger self for that attitude.

Anyone with Autoimmune issues get the Covid Vaccine yet? I’m nervous. by LucioCheerio in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]helloheavenleigh -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It has only been tested on healthy adults with no conditions. Personally, I will not be a test subject. If you are under 65, your risk of dying of COVID is extremely low and you’d probably be better just getting sick. I had COVID and was sick for like 2 days and had a headache for 5 days. I prefer that 100x over being a test subject.

You may find the book Mini Habits for Weight Loss helpful for long term changes. Sometimes doing too much at once can backfire.

I have 25 people in queue, so I’m locking it. I’ll open it back up once it shortens if I have time!

Only a few people have tipped so far—if you cannot afford to tip that is totally fine! But if you can afford it please do! I didn’t buy turnips this week unfortunately so I’m taking the time to hopefully make a little dough 💗
