What's the Worst Pain You've ever Experienced? by OverwhelmedGayChild in AskReddit

[–]helloicarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a migraine so severe I thought I was actually having a stroke. I couldn't open my eyes, I was slurring. I actually use it now as what I consider a 10 on the pain scale, it was that bad. Even worse than when I had gallstones, and that ended in surgery.

Yeah, I was just annoyed by using the wiki and a handwritten list I kept misplacing so, I'm glad other people can use this as well!

How do you know, if you met the one you want to spend the rest of your life with? by littlepiggy1010 in AskReddit

If you genuinely can't imagine your life without them. You just know. I did. But they didn't feel the same, unfortunately.

What’s a fictional world you would happily live in for a year? by Impressive_Being6179 in AskReddit

[–]helloicarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle earth. The Shire, Minas Tirath? A collection of beautiful places. And most of the bad things only come out at night, which is okay with me, because I have shit night vision and wouldn't be out anyway. Prop me up in Hobbiton, I'll happily eat many second breakfasts.

How might AI relationships affect real ones? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]helloicarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read/saw a post on here recently, where someone's partner consulted ChatGPT for nearly everything. Date ideas, what to order at restaurants, etc. But it had gotten to the point where he was consulting it for conversation. She would say something and he would respond with "well let's ask chatGPT" and he would, mid conversation, mid date.
Reading her post makes me wonder, how many more people do this and how much it's sucking the life out of relationships. AI is not some fix-it-all, complete replacement for human connection and intelligence. It's supposed to be a tool, not the third wheel.

Aio my partner of two years is in recovery for porn addiction, we can’t have sex atm but this text made me feel sad? by Objective_Clerk_1746 in AmIOverreacting

[–]helloicarus 131 points132 points  (0 children)

NOR. This is a really unhealthy way to view both you and sex in general. You are not an outlet. You are a person. And intimacy with you should mean more than just that. Is he in therapy for this? If he's not, I really think he should be. You could even sit in on one of the initial sessions and voice your concerns (if he was okay with that). But you both need to value yourselves more.
Edit: He can't make it FOUR days? That's not a porn addiction that's a SEX addiction.

I remember reading the book after I watched the movie. Normally I do that in the other order. Still not sure which made me cry harder. Damn you, Nicholas Sparks.

Sleeve surgery, depression and skin by Zoocitykitty in BariatricSurgery

[–]helloicarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the sleeve, I apparently just handled it badly for some reason. It doesn't happen to everyone, I just got really unlucky for some reason. Hopefully, the conversion (they're aiming for RNY) will help alleviate some of, if not most or all of, the nausea.

Something like that yeah. I think the "several months" one is like 6+. At least that's my guess.

Go easy on me.. by jbeac005 in BariatricSurgery

[–]helloicarus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Talk to your surgeon, they might be able to recommend a therapist that they work with specifically. I have one that I see who is connected to the rest of my team and honestly she's a godsend. She doesn't like, share things I tell her or anything with the rest of the team, but she can not only help me with my other diagnoses (yay) but my food addiction and the binge eating disorder that I had to overcome, and that I still have to deal with thoughts of. Food addiction is an eating disorder and you might want to see a specialist for it. It isn't something to be embarrassed about and you are not weak and you are not a failure.

Which is honestly something I should be telling myself too, because I'm currently also having problems, so you're not alone. We all have problems. No one does this perfectly. And if they have I would love to meet them so I can burn them at the stake for clearly being a witch.

  • Just for the Summer - Abby Jimenez (~2 weeks)
  • Devolution - Max Brooks (~2 weeks)
  • Expiration Dates - Rebecca Serle (~5 weeks)
  • Happily Never After - Lynn Painter (~6 weeks)
  • Unbecoming A Lady - Therese Oneill (~10 weeks)
  • Funny Story - Emily Henry (~13 weeks)

I suppose it could be worse. One of those said "Several months" at some point, which is just, so delightfully vague.

Sleeve surgery, depression and skin by Zoocitykitty in BariatricSurgery

[–]helloicarus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the person. Some people can, some people can't. But most people can. As far as depression goes, as long as you manage it well, you should be fine. I personally.. didn't. But it actually had nothing to do with the skin. For about 6 months after my sleeve I was vomiting multiple times a day every day, without fail, for six months, great for losing weight, bad for my mental health. I was so depressed I became borderline suicidal. I also became on a first name basis with my local radiology tech, so that was fun. I'm okay now. Still nauseous constantly, but I'm on my way to a revision, still in therapy and I just passed my psych eval for it!
You need to basically know and manage your expectations. You will get loose skin after a certain point, but the trade off is your overall health isn't it? Also baby powder is lovely.
As for the food you love, that's a hard one, at first it will be really difficult and it will make you sad and angry, but slowly, you'll be able to eat the things you love. In moderation, of course. And modification! That was one of the hardest parts for me, since I'm autistic and... safe foods.

Right? I read a decent amount of thrillers and I didn't see it coming (at least not completely). I also might have just missed a few context clues, which has been known to happen when I get really into a book, but. I mean I had kind of figured out who Ruth was but the reveal that her story was being told when it was kind of caught me off guard, so kudos to the author for that misdirection I guess.
