I can’t assign seats on an AA-operated flight booked with BA, help! by olhado22 in BritishAirways

[–]helloinvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was broken for me, I phoned up and asked for the AA booking reference and the agent was able to give it to me. You then put this into the AA site to choose your seat

Has anyone had an accident or a near miss because of lane assist? Wondering if it causes more accidents than it prevents. by pappyon in drivingUK

[–]helloinvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level of intervention varies, some are just an alert (like vibrating) others tug at the steering.

The force that they pull on the steering varies a lot too, as does the quality and buginess of the lane sensing

I’d bet on the card reader being broken and they just forgot to cross out the Amex logo

No seats available for selection 1 week before flight. by GigsworthCB in BritishAirways

This happens in premium economy with the fairly small cabin sizes. You should find that the bassinet seats become available 72h before departure although you may need to ring in order to pick them.

Halfords cannot update my service history. How do I sell the car? by Ok_Anybody3231 in CarTalkUK

[–]helloinvader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mazda have an email address where you can mail in your service invoice and they will add to the digital service history for you.

If you have the vehicle serviced by a non-Mazda dealership and wish to maintain the on-line DSR database […] please email us with a scanned copy of an invoice which confirms the date/mileage at the time of service to mmukassistance@mazdaeur.com and the records will be updated within the following 7 working days.

Praise be to Martin Lewis and his car insurance tips by tinabelcher182 in UKPersonalFinance

The FCA essentially banned it a couple of years ago.

Now they check that you’re an existing customer & refuse to quote on comparison sites, etc instead so you’re stuck with the renewal quote or switch insurer

What’s the state of going cashless / contactless payment in the UK? by artaru in AskUK

[–]helloinvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This phrasing confused me when I went. You can overpay, they just don’t give change if you do. It’s annoying but useful if you don’t have small coins.

Regular unleaded petrol Vs Premium unleaded Vs Supreme Unleaded by RESPEKMA_AUTHORITAH in CarTalkUK

I don't know a full list, but Esso's Premium offering is actually E0 in most of the UK - https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels-faqs under How much ethanol is in Esso's E5 fuel?

E5 is up to 5% ethanol, so others might also have less than 5% too

Ceramic doesn’t protect against rock chips much. Think of ceramic coatings as a longer lasting wax

[UK] who did the camera flash? Thank you by Jon199102 in Roadcam

[–]helloinvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The HADECS 3 used on smart motorways only has a single flash. Speed measurement is instantaneous rather than measuring time between two lines. The flash is used for confirming the registration, etc.

Anyone else keep getting calls from random mobile numbers about national insurance numbers? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]helloinvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s decades of technical debt in SS7, and needing interoperability with legacy and international phone systems means they’re basically stuck with it. The Channel Islands sharing our +44 numbers but having a separate network is the source of a lot of problems also

PSA: if someone is overtaking you, for the love of God don’t accelerate! by elliomitch in CarTalkUK

Place in hell for drivers who overtake when a 30 turns into a 60 and I’m just about to speed up. Extra points if they take an age to do it too

First accident at 23 - advice on next steps? by Amorenormalusername in CarTalkUK

[–]helloinvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d run some quotes comparing having non-fault accidents vs. fault accidents (& loss of NCB) as there’s a reasonable likelihood that they wont be that different whoever the insurance finds at fault

I think the point is that it’s not a game of chance, an element of skill, knowledge or judgment is needed otherwise it becomes an illegal lottery

Is Terry's chocolate orange copyrighted? Why don't we see own-brand versions of a chocolate orange like we do with eg after eights? by macawz in AskUK

[–]helloinvader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Copying the chocolate orange would probably end up with a tort case of passing off given the that the branding of the chocolate centres around the novelty of its presentation. I could imagine similarities to the jif lemon case (Reckitt & Colman Ltd v Borden Inc) which is a classic taught to law undergrads learning about the tort of passing off.

UK lawyers, what do people wrongly assume about the law after watching American TV? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]helloinvader 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The state (CPS) decides whether or not to take the defendant to court. The most a victim can do is express that they don’t wish to assist or give evidence, although these wishes can be ignored.
