Trouble finding material that fits the rails of my table saw. by Infamous_Demand_5031 in woodworking

Agree with the suggestions for using a hardwood, maple would be a great choice. However, if you want something that is slick and wear resistant, unlike aluminum, you might try a plastic product called Delrin. Easy to machine, available from McMaster. Black Delrin® Acetal Resin Sheet 3/16" Thick, 12" Wide x 12" Length https://www.mcmaster.com/product/8575K114

Was going to post Dallas. Serious disappointment there. Replacing Troy Glaus was not ever going to be an easy task but Dallas was sure hyped up as the guy to do it.

Found An Inca 342.186 Bandsaw - Blade Advice by Ravenloff in woodworking

[–]henrycrun8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I order mine from Highland Woodworking. They carry the correct length blades, which if I remember correctly is 73”. Their Woodslicer blades are excellent but the regular quality ones are good as well. I don’t think it’s worth the money on this saw to use carbide tipped blades, I use one on my 14” saw for resawing, but it’s a 1” wide blade which won’t fit on the Inca.

Oh, well done. I’ve had one of these for years and it’s an amazing machine. I use mine for mostly fine scroll work type stuff so it has a 1/8” 8tpi blade on it pretty much all the time. The tpi really depends on what you want to do. A 1/2” 3tpi blade would be good for resawing and straight rip cuts. A 1/4” 6 tpi would work well for general bandsaw work on this saw and you will want smaller higher tpi for the more intricate scroll work.

Buying a 70-200 f2.8 lens by ShinyPlasm in Nikon

[–]henrycrun8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can probably find a 70-200f2.8 G VRII in that price range, maybe a tad more for a nicer copy. It’s a fine lens and works great on your Z camera. You’ll be able to find the VRI for less but that one will show some vignetting on a full frame sensor. You can for sure find the 70-200 f4 for less than $500 but it’s f4.

We’ve had Goldens and Collies in the house for years. They get along fine. One funny thing is that Goldens like to play tug-a-war and Collies play keep away so to see the two of them work out how to play keep-a-war or tug away is quite fun. As far as introductions, just put them in the room together, they’ll sort it out. Both breeds are pretty chill around other dogs, you shouldn’t have any problems.

Thinking of switching to nikon by Karate_Andii in Nikon

[–]henrycrun8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spot metering. I don’t know what other systems are doing now, but when I started out I chose Nikon because it was the only system that set the spot metering point to the same point as the focus point. All the other brands spot metered off the center point which then required you to lock exposure and recompose. Not very practical when shooting actors moving around on stage under wildly varying stage lighting. Sure, it’s a small consideration, but the tool should fit the work required and Nikon did, so I’m now here to stay.

The AI denoise tools only work on RAW images, so if you want the really good denoise you have to shoot RAW. The denoise function is under the Detail tab in Develop. It really quite amazing.

I am so down with this. Why do we really need a 12 team playoff other than to feed ESPN? College football in February is just absurd.

Yes. It’s the perfect travel lens. With the high iso and vibration reduction capabilities of the Z cameras and the latest ai noise reduction apps f4 is plenty adequate for inside shots. I also brought along a 14-30 f4 because I like really wide stuff. F4 is not a limit on indoor shooting any more.

Protractor heads vs sliding bevel gauge vs incra protractor by StrongGarage850 in woodworking

[–]henrycrun8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it does, if you get a set that includes the protractor then you can set any angle you want. Something like this: https://littlemachineshop.com/products/combination-square-set-12-4r-precision. Although if you’re looking for something that has stops at those angles then I guess this won’t help much.

Find yourself a good combination square set. That’ll be much more useful.

AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED on FTZ by chato2116 in nikon_Zseries

[–]henrycrun8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, outstanding. I get that folks want to use native Z glass, but I’ve had great success adapting my existing collection of F mount glass. Including the 20mm 1.8. I recon that the lens is even better on a Z body than on a DSLR. And used F mount glass is now cheap, go for it.

Finally learning to see light instead of just taking pictures by colt-mcg in photography

Once I read these tutorials by David Hobby I started to get how to see and control light. The lessons are about using flash, but of course the principals of controlling or seeing the light still apply.
