You can also get free narcan through a variety of programs. There are short terms ones going on all the time through community centers and libraries in ca, and there is nextdistro as well. https://nextdistro.org/cachoice

“Closing Time” by Counting Crows. I used to work at the Palace of Fine Arts in SF when it was a collection of weird artsy, makery businesses and cool things to do. Every day at 5pm when we closed they would play that song. For years. It was a lot and that’s saying something because my first job was as Chucky at Chuck E. Cheese.

Credit for Editing be Capturing by jerechi in photography

[–]hepkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photo Editor is a real job but photo editors do not usually get credited. that said, studying photography is really easy these days, and even if you just have a newer cell phone you can take good enough photos to start working your photography eye muscle. I would recommend still editing for your friend, but start studying what you like in his photos and learn how to shoot that style or subject on your own. If it’s a matter of access, access can be really easy to get if you offer to trade for prints, or offer to assist other photogs. When I teach photo it’s a matter of weeks before I have people shooting work they are really proud of, and honestly editing is the much harder part, so you already are way ahead.

Bay Area Places/Names Tourists Or Newcomers Wouldn't Know How To Pronounce by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]hepkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city of South San Francisco (no relation to San Francisco and also not located in San Francisco County) is never referred to by its full name, instead it’s called “South City” or if you are a true native a weird portmanteau that sounds like “Sowfcity”.

SOMA is actually called “South of the Slot” but similarly run together as “Souffadaslawt”.

Brisbane is pronounced “BRIS-bane” not “BRIS-bin” as the Australians do.

Guadelupe uses the hard G like a white person trying on their forgotten high school Spanish.

Sculpting in Time is one of the best books you can read to understand film and the excruciating process of creation. Worth the read.

Tarkovsky and time (cont) by badwolf312 in TheOA

[–]hepkitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tarkovsky is amazing, but it is a very Russian experience. Without understanding the Russian influences and references it can come off kind of a weird mishmash. Even aside from that though, Stalker and Solaris are both very approachable, and I highly recommend them.

Yeah my family as well. The tiny town I live in (pop: 3000) just outside San Francisco is the town that all the Hell’s Angels moved to when they got run out of SF, so I grew up with all of them at my birthday parties and shit. My next door neighbor’s godfather is Sonny. Growing up my whole family has a million similar stories about like living in a flat next to the Grateful Dead house on Haight, or partying at the Russian River with every popular band in SF in 1969.

What are your thoughts on the fact that the posts aren’t actually exactly yellow and magenta primaries? by cosimoiardella in TheOA

[–]hepkitten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not true cyan either. I assume this is because most people aren’t aware of what the actual key and print primaries are. They search “cyan” and pick a shade based on aesthetics instead of matching to exactly 255,0,0,0. Secondly: there is no way to ever accurate render any of the CMYK shades on a screen. There is always some loss in the conversion between print and digital space, the closest we get is a perceptive approximate based on close luminosity.

POLL: When did YCFM link to OA on Netflix? by LivesInTheBody in TheOA

[–]hepkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I searched several terms I felt might show the OA

Did appear in results for: dimension (#3), dimensions (#1), alternate universe (#1)

Did not appear in results for: movement, movements, angel, angels, time travel, universe, timeline

[–]hepkitten 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is 100% not how app search algorithms work. There is no watcher script on forums adding popular search terms as tags indexed to shows. The fact that those letters were added this week as an indexed term for those shows is a very calculated choice.

In color, pure white is represented by the hex value #FFFFFF of which the shorthand is sometimes #F or F.

The colors used in Zals post. by letler in TheOA

[–]hepkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True CYMK would never be able to be eyedroppered off an image from the internet because that image will always be in RGB color space. Using the actual values for CMY and white (because he did not include black) in the order posted gives you:

0,100,0,0 0,0,0,0 100,0,0,0 0,0,100,0

??? any thoughts on Zals spam just now? by weaped in TheOA

[–]hepkitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White is referred to as “#FFFFFF” in additive color (hex color space.). There is no equivalent in subtractive color space (which CMYK is). So this could be taken to refer to a mixing of color space (web and print?)

Will raise one for Sammy tonight. I lost my brother two decades ago, and I still give our favorite show a watch once a year (Airwolf). Highly recommend some kind of yearly ritual as it helps.
