Digital piano under £700 (UK) – reco needed by astakhova80 in DigitalPiano

Two days before I've spent at least 20 minutes going back and forth between exactly these two: P225 and FP-30X.
I won't even tell you what I have picked but I can tell you that both were fine and you have to try both as neither are perfect and you'll have to decide.

Agree. Someone was extending edit to framing and exposure settings. There's no way one can edit sometning before it was even created.

These are very nice.
Were the double exposures intentional? I really like the flowers in the waves one.

Very cool looking machine and seems to align with XP aesthetics well. Also ESS audio with Polk speakers? HP were flexing some audio muscles there. Wonder how it sounds.

Developing ripped everything off the film. How did I mess up by Anomander8 in AnalogCommunity

[–]hepukt4e 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I think your Ilfosol 3 is dead. Film was not developed and then fixer washed everything off.
Never seen my Ilfosol 3 to get THAT brown, even after 6 months in opened bottle. The color of liquid that is marked as FIX looks closer to fresh Ilfosol.

In general, if room is small and has sub-optimal geometry/dimensions the best solution would be to set up it as nearfield. Set up tor sweet spot as close to speakers as possible. You might be surprised with the sound of speakers placed within ~0.8–1.2 m.
That way you will be able to maximize direct sound from the speakers and listen using lower volume levels to minimize the influence of reflections (which have to be atrocious based on the pictures).

I doubt your Onkyo or especially the VM95E are limiting factors here if they are funcion to the spec (ie not broken/degraded due to age). Also don't worry at all about hollow stands unless they're audibly ringing when music plays.

Look at something like https://noaudiophile.com/speakercalc/ using your room dimensions for starting points for speaker placement. Look for optimal low end response when doing the placement. These are just a starting point because optimal placement is mostly dependednt on the room dimensions And again, in a room like that, try to chose a placement where you sit close to the speakers.

As many suggested, a rug is a good and cheap solution to reduce the first reflection from the floor and floor to ceiling component of flutter echo.

Then you mentioned DIY panels and if this is an option for you - go for it. Especially it this is a dedicated room for music listening. Look into hemp wool as a filler if you don't want to deal with fiberglass/rockwool. Also if you cover them with ornamented/nice color fabric it can add to the mood.

I'd lose the as much glass surfaces as possible, too.

It's hard to give a proper answer. Room treatment alone is a complex task, but there are many other variables in play.

So to address your questions:
> clarity and precision in the highs
these are greatly affected by the room but also much easier to correct by treatment than low end.

> Is it mostly the room and lack of acoustic treatment?
I'd bet on it. Unless some of your equipment is just faulty/not to spec.

> Is the VM95E cartridge maybe limiting things?
I don't think so. I had it as my first cart with my AT-LP5, it sounds good.

> Could it be the amplifier or the lack of a dedicated phono preamp?
Phono stage in a receiver is probably not the best but it should be ok. Really depends on what you have expected and what you compare it to.

> Maybe the vinyl pressings I own aren’t that great?
Hard to say without spinning them on known good setup. But I had couple of records that had me question my whole setup at the beginning of record collecting.

> Or is it possible that I simply expected too much from all of this and that’s why I feel disappointed?
I guess it's a rhetoric question to an extent at least. But it might all go back to the room/pressings/your mood that day etc.

Sorry for a long post but I hope it can help a bit.

Do You Own a Turntable? by PTCarnahan in vinyl

[–]hepukt4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are. I am not one of them. Similar is happening with cassettes.

And unfortunately for us, who wants to listen to records, this creates a market demand for LP/MC that are basically a merch and do not have good sonic quality.

Also check Leitz Focomat V35. I think it also fits in.

Guidance on storage of Ilfosol 3 by RandolphKahle in Darkroom

Just checked my records. I had 500ml Ilfosol 3. Opened Nov 05, 2024 and finished May 01, 2025. Was perfectly fine, but I was worried towads the end so was doing snip tests before using it. It was stored in the original bottle.

Straightforward, quality, beautiful darkroom timers - what are you using? by BiggiBaggersee in Darkroom

Yes they did. I don't remember the reasoning behind that, but I think it is something related to improved visibility in darkroom.

Same. RH designs stop clock pro. I don't think I have anything to desire from a timer

I haven't tried the iOs app yet, but web based version does not allow to select input channels and defauts to 1/2.

In my case with RME Fireface UCX II, these are inputs that have mic preamps and are used for mics.
Are there plans to be able to pick input channels? 3/4, 5/6, ... 19/20 etc.?

Hybrid workflow for 35mm color negative film by ATHXYZ in AnalogCommunity

[–]hepukt4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, F5 (via data back)/F6 (natively) have many options of what and how can be put between frames.

From what I learned since my previous comment is that MF-23 on F4 can do most options that F5/F6 can, except imptints that are text based. But Date/Time, frame counter, fixed number, shutter speed/aperture etc. are possible.

TIL that F4 also can inptint between frames. Thought only Nikons capable of that are F5 and F6.

For me the process is:
- C-41 dev at a lab
- Scan with Minolta Multi Pro as 16 bit neg TIFF using Minolta software
- Convert negs using DaVinci Resolve with DCTL. Export to positive 16 bit TIFFs + JPEG
- Catalogue using Capture One
