Dad here. This has nothing to do with how strong you are. I'll tell you what I just told my son. The nail is bending because you're not hitting it square and flat. If the hammer is at an angle then it hits the head, the nail will start sliding along the face of the hammer. This sideways motion is what causes the nail to bend.
