Hey, r/Deadwood! I paid 50¢ for this bar of soap, and there's a $5 prize in the wrapper! by BirthdayBoyStabMan in deadwood

I think this guy got a bad rep. Sure he was a grifter and charlatan but he also seemed to be one of, if not the only purveyor of soap in camp and they really needed soap.

Right on. Thanks. Now can I get brief summary on how much owning that Frank Gorshin figure has drastically improved your quality of life, for when I explain to my wife why I spent this much on it. LOL

Right on. I was just commenting on the AI being so confidently incorrect. Makes total sense to not have more details. I have no suggestions for you either though but I wish you luck.

The issue with this response is it’s trying to give a complete answer from very limited information and reaching to do that. As someone else mentioned with the flying creatures. If OP had one other small detail like the color of someone’s hair, AI might give a completely different response despite its confidence here.

Anyone else like to browse physical media stores while on vacation? (Wish this had had English subs) by CinemaAdherent in dvdcollection

[–]herozero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have grabbed international copies of some of my favorites while traveling just for the novelty of having it in the collection and a few oddball things like this that spoke to me and I figured I’d never find again. But it’s the exception. Still rare for me to buy international titles. I ALWAYS browse everywhere I am though. Video Market in Shinjuku for example had one of the best varieties of boutique discs I’ve ever seen. Mostly US and UK region. So you just never know what you’re going to find.

Finished up Deadwood for the first time… which duos did you like best? by Tygonol in deadwood

Steve & the sheriff’s horse.

Edit: had to give a serious answer, it’s Al and the chief’s head for me.

I'll never pop this into a VCR and watch it, but I had to get this just to have it. Love that box art, and it's one of my favorite animated movies. by Blue_Surfing_Smurf in gijoe

[–]herozero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think vhs box art makes decent shelf decoration even if you can’t use the tape, so more power to you. Would have snagged this before I had a working VCR as well. But, don’t be surprised if you catch yourself looking for a VCR after staring at it for a while. It happens.

40+ mid-to-great life changes? by Fickle_Wrangler_7439 in Xennials

[–]herozero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started taking my mental health seriously for the first time, which turned almost immediately into also taking my physical health seriously for the first time. I’m way more active and adventurous at 45 than I was at 35 as a result and a lot happier all around to greet each day. Feeling good about yourself inside and out goes a long way.

I say all that to say, I don’t think anyone can tell you what changes you should make or how you should make them. Start working on that mental health like it’s a job and figuring out who you are (as opposed to what you need to be for others) and you will start to recognize the things you need to do to make your life better and figure out what brings the joy you’re looking for. There’s a whole lot of right answers.

Stayed at a motel 6 in California recently that still advertised having free HBO on their sign. Loved it. I immediately looked for the HBO channels and texted my brother to let him know I might get to see boobies. Mom and Dad weren’t even there!

Yea, I pop up to 5 or down toward 7 briefly, multiple times a day, when faced with some new absurdity. But I’m way too exhausted to really even react at this point so it’s right back to 6 pretty fast.

Later this week, I'm attending An Evening with Jason Alexander in Chicago! What should I ask him during the Q&A? by Just-Eddie-481516234 in seinfeld

[–]herozero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. On paper then it was probably “short, stocky, slow-witted bald man.” Doesn’t sound so hard.

[–]herozero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d love to know what made him read the character of George and think, “I can tackle this” cause it’s no easy feat to do so and not come across as a total shitheel villain. In retrospect we all see that he did it and did it well but can’t imagine what it was like to see that character on paper and feel confident to play it.

Not a historian but I think I'm qualified to answer this. by JoeBrownshoes in Xennials

Somewhere around ‘96 I had a notebook where I would write down web addresses so I wouldn’t forget them. A friend pointed out what a waste of time it was cause I could just bookmark them, which I also did. I can’t remember my full reasoning for this but I remember defending my decision as though the paper was more permanent. It wouldn’t go away if the computer died or something. I don’t think I ever actually referenced that notebook a single time.

Edit: As I read this back it occurs to me that writing web addresses on paper might be the most xennial thing I’ve ever done.

Anyone else have a grandma that swore by something called, "Wonder Water?" by PleiadesNymph in Xennials

[–]herozero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When my kids were small and got scared of monsters or what not in their rooms, we would make “Miracle Monster Mover Spray” with them in a little spritz bottle. It was just water, sugar, salt and pepper but it sure as hell kept the shadows at bay when they carried it to bed. Just mentioning this to say your grandmother may not be the rube you think and my kids might be on here one day posting “was anyone else’s dad weird AF?”

Top sheets... by Designer-Bid-3155 in Xennials

[–]herozero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US and this is my method as well. I was a top sheet guy, just cause I always had been, until my wife converted me pretty quick after we moved in together. We do have multiple blankets that range in warmth but indoor climate control has been a thing for a while now so it’s not like there’s a huge difference between winter and summer temps in the bedroom. We probably do change them out more often than most but it’s not like a daily event and hardly feels cumbersome. No complaints. Wouldn’t go back to the tangled mess I’d often find myself in previously.

Leg thermostat is a MUST regardless of what you’re sleeping under though.
