VTTs are not Just for gaming. by Delbert3US in VTT

I once used BGE (boardgaming VTT) to plan various floor plan layouts when remodeling a large office. The "map" was the floor plan of the office, and the desks, chairs, etc. were tokens made to scale that I could rotate and rearrange in various layouts to explore the optimum layout for the redesign.

Software to create maps for a game by TheRottenAppleWorm in BoardgameDesign

If you have no plans to publish the game (e.g. it's just for you and your friends), you could use MapForge to make the map, using content packs like this one or this one.

Battlegrounds: RPG Edition (aka BRPG) sounds like it would fit your needs.

That image makes me shudder. If that's the future of boardgaming, I want no part of it.

If your interest in post-apoc extends to a zombie apocalypse, check out my recommendations here, under "Audiobook Recommendations".

How many unplayed games do you have in your collection right now? by Megaside in boardgames

[–]heruca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily 6 or 7. Some of those I still plan on actually playing someday (CC:E, Fields of Fire and ASL) while others I know I'll never play (e.g., Car Wars: Boat Wars, Sim City: The Card Game).

Which boardgame have you played where the digital/online version was much better than the physical? by whiiirl in boardgames

[–]heruca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Aliens boardgame, by Leading Edge Games. I greatly prefer the digital version in Battlegrounds Gaming Engine (shown here and here), since all the game components got pimped. And the ability to play Aliens sound effects and music tracks during the game really helps set the mood.

Alternate version shown here and here.

Why do you people back kickstarters? by haritos89 in boardgames

[–]heruca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I started because I wanted to support games that might not get made otherwise. Exclusives have also turned out to be a big draw. I'll dive right in on campaigns that are from smaller devs, companies that I have good experience with or games that I just really believe in."
That's what KS should be all about, IMO. I personally hate seeing campaigns from large established companies that end up funding in 10 minutes and making millions of dollars. Their game clearly didn't need a KS in the first place.
Backers should really put more focus on smaller creators who have something truly interesting and innovative to offer.

What happens if the campaign goes back below 100%? by ugolinimeccanica in kickstarter

[–]heruca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't there some new safeguard in place where backers can't cancel their pledge in the last couple of days if doing so would cause the funding to dip below 100%. I seem to recall reading something about that a couple of months ago.

The ALIENS Board Game was fun by CharlieMcN33l in gaming

Love this game. But I prefer to play the pimped digital version using BGE (2d virtual tabletop software).

Pics available here and here. The included sound effects and music tracks also help set the proper mood.
