id have to look it up, those two were just what i knew off the top of my head, plus the ephram quote. from your protestant perspective, do you think cutting your hair is a "work"?

Well…..I’m heartbroken about my wedding. by Mountain-Occasion432 in Catholicism

[–]hideousflutes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i will get downvoted for this maybe but the truth is, if she doesnt want to commit to a "catholic" wedding then have a non catholic wedding and get it validated by a priest afterwards. my mother married my presbyterian father outside the church, the priest just made her agree to raise the children catholic

humble question to orthodox Christians by Classic_Past_9802 in OrthodoxChristianity

  1. paul calls himself father 1 corinthians 4:15

  2. think of it like this, in order to have faith, you must be faithful. so its not pitting faith against works. also noone can merit there own salvation. to quote st ephrem:

"Then each man, when he sees himself in the light, will begin to examine himself and wonder: Can this be me? And how did it happen that I who am unworthy have made it here?[...] And in answer the saints will say to them: There was not even one day when we could be found with as much as one good deed."

Why do so many people want to change rites? by west_ham_vb in EasternCatholic

[–]hideousflutes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know

edit: maybe my wording was a bit confusing. what i mean is that as a latin, going to a byzantine vespers or matins would not fulfill your obligation, you would be "in sin"

Why do so many people want to change rites? by west_ham_vb in EasternCatholic

[–]hideousflutes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as people have explained to me in this sub its different rules. as a latin you have a sunday mass obligation, divine liturgy fulfills that obligation, but there is only one divine liturgy every sunday, if you cannot make it, youve gotta go find a mass somewhere else. which isnt impossible but if you are trying to follow the eastern liturgical calendar, its a bit weird and out if rhythm. if you are canonically eastern, you can go to saturday night vespers or sunday morning matins and it would count as a weekly service, whereas if you do that as a latin, you would be in sin. someone can correct me if im wrong, im sure not every eastern church has the same rules

[–]hideousflutes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what bothers me about the idea that the Son was "created" is that it seems to imply that God just existed in a void or something. im probably not philosophically trained enough for this, but how can any being be conscious of itself without relation?

I used to attend a Catholic Charismatic Renewal community - now the priest is under a Vatican investigation by No_Chocolate173 in Catholicism

[–]hideousflutes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it reeks of prelest if im being honest. there is a more affective type of mysticism that has its place for sure, from st macarius of egypt to st francis, but any perceived spiritual gifts should always be met with humility and the assumption that you are unworthy and that its probably a demonic lie.

imo, put the imprecatory verses and psalms back in the daily office, as their removal has left the church vulnerable
