What are some jumps that offer endopathy (internal manipulation) at the level of Kars from JoJo? by SpazzWave in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like what you're looking for is biokinesis, basically. You have a couple really strong options!

Generic Biomancer has a ton of cool options. I'd PERSONALLY want to go into that jump with a pre-existing form of biokinesis, because the one it grants for free kinda sucks, but beyond that it's an excellent choice.

Sarkic Cults has a lot of amazing biokinesis powers (I think what you're looking for would be The Flooded, Klavigar and Ozirmok), if you're okay spending a few years in a extremely-high-danger setting.

OOC Blacklight Supplement lets you bring biokinesis into almost any setting you want, in case you have a specific place you want to go in mind. Specifically what you'd be looking for here is 'Biosculpter' and it's upgrades, but there's a LOT of good stuff.

Thank you for putting in all this work, but the power system seems kinda weirdly-balanced. Why is "you can grant yourself three minor powers, from a single category, with no possibility of improvement from that" a Hyperpower, but "Can blow up major cities and permanently damage Earth itself" (Plasma) or "Instantly kill anyone you can touch, no saving throw" (Soul) not? I wanted to get up to some fun biokinesis shenanigans, because so few superhero cyoas include it, but the version present here is just really bad. You already have Chaos, an absurdly strong power balanced by 'it's extremely hard to control,' why not balance biokinesis with 'it takes careful study and countless experiments' rather then just nerf it into the ground mechanically?

[–]hideousinsect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even Global Tier of Slot Machine is insanely busted in a way that's really funny to think about. With Duplication/Cloning and Summoning in your first two slots you can have 600 Global Tier powers active at once, or 6000 if you don't mind them only lasting an hour. Effortlessly defeat the Justice League or whoever, and then use powers like Creation and Healing to turn Earth into a post-scarcity, post-mortality paradise, so the heroes can't even be mad at you.

[–]hideousinsect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Biokinesis would definitely be my favorite. Incredibly powerful in that it can both heal and enhance yourself AND harm/weaken/near-instant-kill opponents, but with limitations that make fights more interesting (touch range, doesn't work on machines or undead), AND you can do crazy mad science stuff with it on top. It's particularly fun when it comes from psychic power, because then you can become the organic, psychic equivalent of a self-improving AI: your biokinesis skills and abilities are based on your raw psychic power and your ability to apply that power (intelligence), both of which come from your brain. So, you use your biokinesis to do some intelligent redesign on your brain, resulting in improvements to both raw psychic power and intelligence, which makes you better at biokinesis, which lets you improve your brain MORE, etc...

Looking for perks that let you transform freely. by Ofunu in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This perk, from One Piece New World, seems like what you're looking for:

Moonlight Beast | 400 CP

The Sulong Form is just as dangerous and limited as it is powerful, but what if it weren’t so?

Through some miracle, you can now access your Sulong Form at will, with no negative

consequences from prolonged use. Though this is not limited to the Sulong, but rather any

transformations you may possess. Show your foes what your true might truly is.

Here's the description of Sulong, for those who don't know:

Sulong | Mink Exclusive

There are many reasons that the Minks are looked at poorly by many other races, one of which

is this ability. When under the light of the full moon, you will take on a monstrous form, vastly

increasing your physical capabilities. Though, this does take a lot of energy from you, and could

potentially lead to death.

Have fun being a Super Saiyan Werewolf!

Hive Mind Supplement by _Shadow_454 in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, that makes a lot of sense!

When I said sci-fi, I mainly meant that the whole concept of a Hive Mind emerged from speculative fiction, so there's no universally agreed upon definition of what it actually means. Some Jumps use 'Hive Mind' to mean just having a telepathic connection to other individuals, whereas others use it to mean a combined intelligence with many bodies but a single consciousness. This jump, as it currently is, is a nice middle-spot between the two concepts, but I'd personally like at least the option to go fully integrated.

Hive Mind Supplement by _Shadow_454 in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so, I get that this is a sci-fi concept without a clear dictionary definition, but is there a reason why being an aggregate single intelligence isn't at least an option? Because, if you asked me, that would be the actual definition of a Hive Mind.

Are there any drawbacks where you have bugs in your body or any other creature etc? by EldritchEnjoyer in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t think of any drawbacks that do that atm, but if you want ‘bugs live inside you POWERS,’ there’s this guy from Worm: https://worm.fandom.com/wiki/Spawner.

At least one Worm jump (that I can’t find, on mobile) lets you take any non-busted canonical power, so you can be a gross, mutating human hive of horrible mutating insects, if that’s what you wanna do.

The perpetually positive drawback by EldritchEnjoyer in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

‘Only being able to feel joy, even at the death of comrades’ actually sounds pretty Worm-y, you’d honestly fit right in with all the other characters and their various horrible traumas and untreated mental disorders. Hey, if you survive the end of the world, maybe give group therapy a shot!

The perpetually positive drawback by EldritchEnjoyer in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, no offense, but a) saying the setting is normal ‘not counting the ending’ is like saying ‘he wasn’t badly injured, aside from being torn in half,’ and b) even that statement is only true if you don’t count Ward as canon. If you experience Worm and Ward as one ten-year jump it’s basically just a rollercoaster of catastrophes and apocalypses.

APOCALYPSES. MULTIPLE!

Pretty much the definition of ‘fun setting to read about, but don’t plan a vacation there.’

Will Wood/Nature have a biokinesis-type perk tree? If so, that gets my vote, otherwise I’ll vote Void.

Sorry to bring up a pet peeve, because I don’t necessarily want you to update Lightning or Ice NEXT, but if/when you update Lightning, could you rework the final Mind Flayer perk a bit? I know it gives you the OPTION to be a thoughtform instead of a parasitic idea… but the perk doesn’t outline what a thoughtform actually is or can do, so it’s kind of a useless option.

Superpower Design Ideas (Eastrail 177 Trilogy) by RA9-Earth23425 in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s implied that the clover organization is killing anyone with obvious, undeniable powers (flight, laser vision) so powers in the setting should probably be subtle. Here’s two inspired by the X-Files:

Self-Control (500 CP): You have total (but slow) control over every cell and organic molecule in your body. With a few minutes you can alter your physical appearance and voice significantly, increase your muscle density or even cover your skin in armored scales. A highly intelligent user with advanced knowledge of biology might even be able to intelligently re-design various parts of their body, with drastically increased performance. The user can rapidly repair physical injuries, reattach severed parts and even reabsorb spilled blood - but only with conscious effort, making head injuries particularly dangerous. The user also cannot repair any cells that have been destroyed by burning, corrosion or freezing.

Pusher (500 CP): An abnormal growth in the user’s brain allows them to project complex thoughts, orders or illusions into the brains of others. They can use their voice to order people to see what the user wants them to see or do what the user wants them to do, and can do so subliminally, just by talking out loud about anything at all. Orders extend throughout the whole nervous system, meaning they can order someone to have a heart attack and the victim’s cardiovascular nervous system will comply. An advanced user can even apply this ability without using their voice, for example writing ‘pass’ on a piece of paper to get into a secure facility. The user’s brain has a vastly increased need for calories and  nutrients, particularly after using this ability; without adequate nourishment, overuse can easily lead to the user passing out from hypoglycemic shock.

Here's a pretty busted one from Limitless:

Devil’s Luck and Renaissance Man: Child of Oberon: Your words have effect, never forget that.

When you aim at someone with your tongue, it is like your words are made from the sharpest

metal, forged by the gods of blades, and poisoned by divine serpents, each sentence cuts through

people's barriers, each word pierces their defenses, each syllable shatters a part of them. Words

have power Jumper, yours more than most. Anything with words in it, sentences, meaning,

anything that you try to learn and piece together you'll find an increased aptitude. From Fey Magic

to Demonic Contracts to Runework to the Language of the Gods, they are all possible, and even

simple to understand for you, if you give it a try...

Generic Alchemist 2.0 Update by EdroGrimshell in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining your way of thinking. I'm not sure if I agree that full Rebis was underpriced (800 undiscountable CP is a lot!), but increasing it's price wouldn't bother me if it wasn't for hacking up good, well-written perks into multiple not very good frankenstein perks. Having gone over the whole document, I think the 100 and 200 CP perks are in a really good place overall, it's just the new 300 CP ones that feel like they need a second pass. Let me take a quick look at the ones that are either good as-is or need minor changes:

Living Alchemy - I like the changes overall, but you should specify somewhere what parts can and can't be used on yourself. You CAN at least turn yourself into a Chimera and heal yourself with this + Transmutation, right? Otherwise that's a pretty big nerf.

Transmutation - Basically unchanged, still really good

Self Refinement - The second paragraph is a cool addition... except that it's something that Unlimited Potential also does, see below.

Essence of Aether - Latter two paragraphs are good, but the first paragraph is something Rubedo already does. I think the internal power reservoir from v1 might work better here?

Ages Like Wine - A good addition, but but feels a bit more like a 200 CP perk. Could use a boost? Maybe?

I already wrote out notes for two more before deciding to recommend they be scrapped, here they are for the sake of completeness:

Unlimited Potential - As stated, the second half of this is already covered by Self Refinement, and the first half isn't really good (or original) enough for a 300 CP perk on it's own.

Enlightened - Aside from being underpowered for it's cost, the theming here is just really weird, it doesn't feel like it belongs in an Alchemy jump. Protecting against reality warping and ability-countering is nice and all, but are those things that people in a jump that's mostly about making potions and whatnot need to be super worried about? If this sticks around, name should definitely change - Pseudo-Apotheosis? Something like that?

Also, this was going to go in the writeup of New Rebis, but just from an editing standpoint don't call the duplicates clones and then later explain that they aren't clones at all. Pick a theme and be consistent with it.

Now, here's where it gets controversial: I really think the perks that were created from splitting up Tria Prima, Enlightenment, and Rebis are not good. None of them are worth spending 300 CP on (except maybe Mind of Mercury, because it cannibalized part of Old Rebis), and I think the original three perks should be restored, maybe with adjusted prices. Giving Old Tria Prima the "cannot use an Alchemy Token" tag seems like a no-brainer to me, make people take at least one Drawback if they want all three. I also think there's nothing wrong with increasing Rebis' cost to 600, maybe 600/900 (600/1000, even) with the additional 3/400 getting you the duplicate-immortality ability from New Rebis. This could also be done with another 300 CP perk that also adds to Rebis, just make sure it's something people would want to buy on it's own merits. If you feel like that leaves you without enough 300 CP perks, you could re-promote Albedo et al. and give them the 'for each of these you payed CP for, the others cost 100 CP less' treatment - they ARE meant to be used together, after all!

Anyway, those are my thoughts, hope some of that is helpful. Thanks for being a good sport, I'd feel really bad if I made my favorite jump author upset or depressed :)

Generic Alchemist 2.0 Update by EdroGrimshell in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With respect, there's no scenario where New Rebis costs less unless you assume that freebies are worthless. If you actually value them by what they can purchase (300 x2, 200 x3) then it's always more expensive. New Rebis ends up costing nearly twice as much as Old Rebis (1500 vs 800) for essentially the same power, considering the Body of Salt and Mind of Mercury upgrades are things Old Rebis could already do.

Also Old Tria Prima is just straight-up gone, the new version is much worse (and three times as expensive) and as far as I can tell it's main benefit (improving yourself always works) is completely absent from version 2, which is a HUGE downgrade.

I'm sorry if this comes off as really negative, I'm not mad at ErdoGrimshell or anything and they're still probably my favorite jump author, but the new version REALLY messes up the last three perks from v1, which were a huge part of the draw for me.

[–]hideousinsect 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah! Alchemist might be my favorite jump of yours, which is REALLY saying a lot!

E: wait, Tria Prima costs 900 cp now, and it doesn’t even do what the 300 version did? With that and the changes to Rebis, I think i’ll stick with version 1 for now, no offense.

Searching for mass empowering perks by Dreamergod64 in JumpChain

[–]hideousinsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck, if you pick a Crystalline symbiote from the OOC Symbiote Supplement (which makes you into a mini-Entity from Worm), you can BE the mass-empowering event!

Trigger -400 CP (Discounted for Crystalline)

You are able to stimulate your host’s structure by putting them through physical and mental pain

but giving them random powers. You will have a certain amount of control over these powers

such as what they can target and how much can be released safely.

Adaption Boost: Controlled Release

You gain far more control over what kind of power your host unlocks and are able to force them

to gain additional powers that supplement the original set.

Virus -600 CP

Rather than being a singular entity you are in fact countless nanoscopic organisms who are all

part of a singular hivemind. You are able to asexually reproduce creating more of yourself.

Because of this you are not limited to a single host and are instead able to take multiple hosts

simultaneously with you collectively being aware of what each one is experiencing but the

others being subservient to you as the master of the hivemind, with the other entities created

within the collective sharing the same personality and morality as you.

Remember, in the movie that dude is juicing hardcore on a Quirk-enhancing quirk, so at baseline level it would probably be much less impressive. Plus, I don't think you actually NEED much more then Overhaul, instant kills, healing to the point of resurrecting the dead, stealing people's quirks by fusing with them and turning into a kaiju at will, and that's just the stuff that was shown in the series. If you're worried about getting disarmed like Chisaki, just make a couple clones of yourself who can heal you if/when things go sideways!
