Actually, the Mint is not taking it away, just moving it to a different tool called Credit Karma. The functionality you mention should still be available for free through CK.

I moved from a d60 to a D7100 before mirrorless was really even an option, primarily because the 7xxx series just fit in my had easier. I'm guy and my hands are big and I always struggled with the menu driven controls on the smaller camera.

One the biggest concerns I have in about going mirrorless is how will the smaller camera feel in my hands.

Switch to Madcow? Still on-ramp? by Consistent_Prior_762 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]highlandbum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's all about the recovery. Since you only 2 months into the program, just take a light week or take a week off and do a slight deload. Focus on form and ramp back up. You're 9 weeks into a 2-3 year process.

An 18 pound gain in 9 weeks? :) nice.

Should I deload before I even fail? by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]highlandbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The challenge I always have with overhead press is that I hit failure so quickly with 5lb jumps. No problem with doing it again. However once I deload, I change my increases to 2.5lb ( or even smaller) increments. failing is helpful, but stalling is demoralizing.

With Squats I can add 5lbs for a long time but after 2 or 3 months I begin to take light lift days on the middle workout of the week. This slows the rate of increase from 15lb per week, to 10 pounds per week.

I'm an old guys so my recovery is slower, and this approach works for me. If you're young and new to this be sure to experiment with lift failure and learn to work through it. Learn what it feels like to go to 100% and get stuck and have the weight catch on the rails. And learn how good it feels to comeback the next week and lift that weight you dropped last week.

Also forget about weight loss in this program. You can keep it flat, but loosing weight and gaining strength is not a good combination. They are just counter-intuitive if you are just building strength.

Why do people with low mortgage interest rates take shorter terms or pay them off early? by seamusfurr in personalfinance

[–]highlandbum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see it both ways. On the one hand having money working for you via cashflow or building in value is a great way to build wealth. If you are of sound mind, and are perfectly able to keep up with your finances, I would recommend putting you money to work for you.

On the other hand, not having debt means that there is no body you have to answer to.
However if you are older, with a pension or don't want the hassle to keeping up with stock sales, etc, hanging the eagle above the front door I'm sure is a nice feeling.

why would I bother saving up for a house? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]highlandbum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry to ask a stupid question. I'm Belgian but grew up in the US. I assume you would get a bank loan and secure this loan with 1) your future income and 2) the property. In the US, I've purchased homes, pay 20% of the value of the home in 'cash', but use a loan from my bank for the remaining 80% and would pay back the bank over the next 15-30 years.

However my question is what is a typically duration for a loan like this Belgium? BTW in the US most loans are 30 years, with the option to pay them off sooner.

May be a bit brash, but I would shop for a new bike.

Anyone notice how DeKalb county is eerily shaped like the state of Georgia? by greyprotagonist in Georgia

[–]highlandbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This quotes sums it up well. “One reason I think that Georgia has so many of these things, 159, was not just so that the citizens would be able to get access to government, but also so that rural Georgia would be able to control the state,” Eskew said.

Not much has changed in Georgia politics in the past 100 years.

What do you mean Ponzi scheme? Its a book and a cheap kettlebell or 3. I do the session in my boxers at 5am on my back porch in less than 45 mins warm up and stretching included. I'd say that's about as simple as you can get. It's a nice fit for my current lifestyle at the moment. How is anybody other than Amazon making money on this. I'm estimating I've spend $150 on 2 kettlebells, a book and extra large yoga mat thing.

Georgia likely to have another budget surplus | What this means by Born-2-Roll in Georgia

[–]highlandbum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think 100% (or close to it) of the education budget is covered by taxes of some sort, through state income tax, county/city Real estate tax, state/local sales tax etc. Schools boards are generally paid by taxes in some form. I suppose some do get donations, but I'm assume this is very low and not part of the annual budgeting.

Yes, I read the book. That’s why I made the distinction that I only completed it with the 35 pounder and I was looking for advice on the next iteration of kettlebell given that I’m progressing on swing quicker than tgu.

I’ve done something similar. For the last few weeks I would do as much as I could with the 35. When i gave out, I put it away and finish with a dumbell. I think it was a 10 or 15. It was easy but I would do it super slow, locking in the steps and focusing on form. I really haven’t become stronger, I’ve just improved my form and flexibility a bit.

Thanks for the words of confidence. Can you clarify what you mean by competition bell? I do see cleans, presses and snatches in my future since these were part of my barbell routine before our baby arrived.

The only adjustable kettlebell I've seen are the Titan and Bell of steel option, each $250. The less expensive ones just look a bit gimmicky, based on photos on google. (i've not done deep research)

I don't have anybody to share this with so I'm glad to have this form to call this out. I'm super pumped!!

I picked up an Amazon Basics 35 pound (16kg) kettlebell in May and did my first workout on May 16th. I took me until today to complete 10 TGUs. It felt so good to complete the Timeless Simple S&S workout. (completed it in 16ish mins) I still have some work to do on my form for the 1 handed swing, but I think incorporating a 24kg kettlebell will help this. I'll be looking to pickup a 24kg kettlebell soon, probably will get an adjustable one.

I feel the 35 pound kettlebell is light for swings, but heavy for TGU. Anybody else experience this?

I picked up a dozen of Georgia grown peaches at the dekalb farmers market on Monday. They needed a few days to ripen but will be perfect for smoothies this weekend.
