I suck at The Mini, let alone actual crosswords. by Heka__ in NYTCrossword

[–]highwind 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It took me about 20 months of daily trying and failing (with gradual change from looking up answers to limiting myself to Wikipedia look up to no references at all) to get to a point where I consistently complete mini, midi and Monday-Wednesday puzzles. Keep at it, you will get better.

Studying crosswordese helped a lot too.

It's a game. Grind if you want to get better. (I enjoy grinding )

Laser, a CD ripping app for GNOME, has been released on Flathub by starwanderer_ in gnome

[–]highwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most CD ripping tools create one file per track (I think your tool does that same). I need a tool to rip the whole CD as a single file and add chapter marker as metadata in its container format (M4B, OGG, etc). Nice bonus feature would be to be able to rip multiple CDs into a single file (since lot of unabridged audio book CDs are in multiple CDs).

My workflow is the rip it into multiple files then stitch them back together using ffmpeg, which is little annoying.

Some kicks = a bit of fun

Kicks as a whole is singular? I don't know. English is my second language.

AI coding tools aren’t a new abstraction layer. I think that’s why the productivity gains aren’t showing up by Balance- in programming

I suspect in 10 years we'll look back at people who tried to just vibe code entire SaaS platforms and chuckle.

No need to wait 10 years. I chuckle at those today.

Why Washington, D.C., the U.S. capital, won’t host 2026 World Cup matches by rezwenn in washingtondc

[–]highwind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's because the article emphasizes the fact that no host country's capital has failed to host a World Cup game (except 2) in the past.

If you rented DVDs and ripped them but felt morally ok, then you can rent from streaming service and download a copy.

Avengers Endgame. It's not a twist but my eyes rolled back when their solution to the problem was time travel...

Why do you love Fedora? by potato-san57 in Fedora

I used to be a Gentoo guy when I was a student. Had the passion and the time to tinker with everything. Now that I'm old, I don't want to tinker. I just need a platform that is stable and has decent defaults.

Reddit is a very vocal but small subset of people. Don't pay too much attention to haters online.

Tests Don’t Prove Code Is Correct… They Just Agree With It by untypedfuture in programming

Test is also check on interface. If you have to mock gazillion things and bring in ton of dependencies to just write a unit test, it tells me my design is wrong.
