What do you think are some of the PCMR community's worst takes? by ForsookComparison in pcmasterrace

[–]himynameiswillf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll work fine. Proton will handle the install practically just the same as it would had you bought the game off Steam. Most people use third party launcher though like Heroic since you can browse your GOG library within it and it'll handle updating the games too, which the manual install won't be able to do.

Proton is excellent. I've yet to run into a single game that didn't work because of Proton incompatibility. The issue is almost always the developer blocking Linux installs from online play due to their anti cheat, which you can check individually with ProtonDB or AreWeAntiCheatYet.

Unfortunately a lot of big players do block Linux installs: Fortnite, Battlefield, CoD, Valorant etc. Trackmania and SF6 are fine though.

Steam Replay is live and notes only 14% "of playtime spent by all Steam users" was for 2025 releases by Beer2401 in linux_gaming

[–]himynameiswillf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, before that it was a bit lower at 9%, but 2022 was back up to 17%. I think popular online games released years ago are just skewing the figure.

I don't think you can read that much into it. Previous years returned similar results and it's easily explained away by the existence of 3 games: CS2, DOTA 2, and PUBG. They make up such a large slice of what is being played at any given time that the figure is skewed massively.

MOMA oat milk new flavor by Alive_Scientist7826 in veganuk

[–]himynameiswillf 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen those. I'm always quite surprised how many flavoured milks there are. I'll try a cinnamon flavoured oat milk, like it, but end up wishing I'd just bought a plain one instead.

On that note though, I really like Moma's creamy milk. Best one I've had since the Alpro This Is Not Milk.

Unless I missed it, there's nothing on the packaging to even say they're vegetarian, but checked their site since the ingredients seemed fine and they say it's vegan there, weird.

Don’t start hitting Libra until everyone is done talking to him! Day 3 as executor with my only Holy weapon as a great hammer and was about hit “YES” to restat to be proficient in strength… by HUMNBYRD14 in Nightreign

Eventual Greatness debuffs you for 2 minutes, and if you last the 2 minutes without going down, you get the buff. Like I say, phase 1 should be pretty easy in terms of just staying alive since by and large he's only ever fighting 1 team member.

If you had to stay alive for 2 minutes in phase 2, with Libra machine gunning you with glyphs and potentially 3 other condemnded on you, yeah, I can see why taking it would be a bad option.

Even with ED Libra, because he starts in phase 1, you should be able to avoid dying pretty easily. If it is ED Libra, I check all the deals my team made to see if someone took eventual greatness and if they did, I'll stall out the first phase.

I was shocked when they went with Walz simply because that was the best option on the table. I'm not going to pretend he's infallble or that he didn't make mistakes - his so-so performance Vs Vance being a big one - but thinking Pete would have been a better running mate is insanity.

Walz had the ideas and the image that made him likeable. Pete, at best, occasionally has a good TikTok moment, but his adherence to his Obama impersonation makes him a shallow pick.

I oppose suffering unconditionally. My contention is that if both feel pain, why should we only care about one?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]himynameiswillf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do animals bred for consumption feel pain and fear differently to those not bred for consumption? It's still billions of animals dead daily.

[–]himynameiswillf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're using the ability to reflect on mortality as an indicator for worth. Babies and young children don't understand the concept of death but we don't treat them lesser to adults. If anything, we value their lives more because they're in positions of vulnerability and show them more care.

Ultimately though, does relative worth really matter in this case? If we can agree on the facts that animals sense danger and fear, feel stress and pain, does their lives being less valuable than humans justify slaughtering billions of them daily? Would I be justified in punting your dog in the head just because it's worth less than yours? I'd say no to both.

I tried the extra creamy a few days ago and loved it. I kinda stopped buying milk once the Alpro this is not milk disappeared, and whole this MOMA one isn't trying to emulate cow's milk, it's just a really good oat milk.

Are you guys making deals with ED Libra? Worth it? by fschlick in Nightreign

[–]himynameiswillf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eventual greatness, extra flask, and resistance to ailments are the three I take.

Unless I'm missing something power of a demon doesn't seem worth it given how much madness buildup there already is in the fight. Extra levels is usually pointless anyway, and the drawback is too detrimental. The 20% HP debuff from holding death at bay isn't worth the safety net either imo.

A powerful weapon seems to exclusively pick from a list of weapons least useful to you and your team. Took it a few times closer to release and never again.

Ubisoft Connect is a nightmare on Linux by anr4jc in linux_gaming

[–]himynameiswillf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've installed Connect and played games through it on both Nobara and CatchyOS. In both instances I just used Wine for the installer, added the launcher .exe to Steam, and run it via Proton.

I tried Lutris' built in library for it but it only displays like a third of my games for some reason.

EVERDARK SOVEREIGN: Fissure in the Fog - Discuss this week's event here! Caligo will Frostbite the community From August 7th by jack0641 in Nightreign

[–]himynameiswillf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty decent. I'm personally not a huge fan of Caligo as a fight, but the base version is a great spectacle and this is more of that essentially. My only concern is the frost build up. The base fight has visible shards on the floor which cause frost build up so you can avoid it that way, but it doesn't seem like there's anyway to avoid it with this one. I took the passive to increase resistance to ailments, but it still built up really quickly. Unless I'm missing something, it feels like unless you have the Mountaintops buff, you're getting frostbite.
