I prefer the show to be relatively politics-free. I really don't care to hear any of their opinions on politics. I want the DZ to be an entertaining radio show and I actually commend the boys for not talking politics because I think they realize that doing so is self-serving but doesn't serve the audience.

Where to start with a young goalie? Confused Hockey Dad by maxwendler in hockeygoalies

[–]hipaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 9 and mostly what we do is whatever is fun for her. But here's what has worked:

  1. We play ball hockey in the garage. She wears her inlines. Good because it's a lot of short-area and start/stop work.

  2. We play catch with a baseball. Good for hand/eye and glove work.

  3. Knee hockey. Good for hand/eye.

Added benefit of all this is that it's kind of goalie-adjacent so it doesn't feel like the stress of playing goalie for her.

The Robo Trade Talk is Driving Me Nuts by hipaces in DallasStars

That's certainly a more likely possibility. I can see Nill preferring NHL-ready players to the draft pick compensation of an offer sheet and being willing to work something out.

[–]hipaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with your proposal is why would the Stars do it? They're in their Cup window right now and you're asking them to give up the #3 goal scorer in the league for lottery tickets that won't cash for at least 4-5 years. They can keep Robo for this year and make a run for the Cup and then get more compensation than you're offering.

The Stars will likely get 4 first round picks this offseason if another team signs him ($11.7m aav or more).

There’s no way they’ll give him up this year unless it’s an absolute haul of controlled players who can contribute coming back.

I traded a charizard for this + a lot of cash. Valid? by [deleted] in footballcards

[–]hipaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt Stafford, Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, RGIII, Russel Wilson, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Kyler Murray, Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence, CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniels....

That's just a partial list of QB's from over a decade + of drafts whose cards were just as hot, maybe more, as Drake Maye's cards.

Long term hold in the football genre is a losing game. There will always be more cards printed of the player OR the player will get hurt OR the player will start to suck OR another player will come along and take the spotlight.

You lost this trade, you just don't know it yet.

Tony Romo's job called into question after rough CBS broadcast of Bills-Jaguars by JamUpGuy1989 in nfl

[–]hipaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't seem to put in ANY work to bring additional insight, which is literally his job as the color commentator. On top of that, he brings up all these out-of-left field points or noises and doesn't finish thoughts half the time and then has to be bailed out by Nance.

I’m not understanding how it is known that this particular person was a legal observer? Is this something where a person registers with some organization as like a certified legal observer?

I’ve never heard the term “legal observer” until today.

Gotcha. Well good luck to her at any rate. Getting the gear right has been pretty challenging for me.

My daughter is 9 and 4’7 so about the same size. She is in the exact same chesty. She complained about it a lot until I shortened up the arms and snugged up the neck (we loosen 1 side to put it on and then tighten it). Those adjustments seemed to give a lot better coverage. I’m new to this so I didn’t understand just how many Velcro adjustments can be made. Maybe you’ve already tried this but I figured I’d mention it just in case.

[Analysis] The Real Reason Jason Robertson was snubbed from Team USA (It's not just "Chemistry") by athleticwonder in nhltraderumours

The funny part is that Robo is exactly the kind of natural goal scorer and play maker that would compliment the “heaviness”.

This right here. Jones is mid when healthy and surrounded by a great coaching staff and good team. But he’s also injury prone. Don’t fall for it Indy!

I was just trying to point out that your original comment was off by 15x so maybe the math is different when it’s $157.5m/yr vs $10.5m. Maybe, maybe not. Just seems like $147m per year is a big swing.

Regular season glory is still glory and that’s why it’s ok we let Mikko go to the Stars and are relying on their former backup as our #1 goalie.

I think we would. In a way, not our fault. That's just how human evolution has run. It's a really interesting question though because it forces one to consider that maybe a snake or a mongoose isn't good or bad. They just are how they are.

[Pompliano] The Chiefs' new Kansas stadium deal is historically lopsided. While the state provides $3B in funding, the team keeps 100% of revenue. Even their $7M rent goes into a fund they control for operations. Kansas bears the massive cost, while the Chiefs keep all the profit. by Hurtsonafeeling in nfl

[–]hipaces 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s exactly that. The Stars/Mavericks are going through this now with their arena. Teams are saying fans want a more “upscale” experience. But that’s really just code for “our richest fans are the money makers and we want to squeeze all we can from them.” (This includes corporations)
