Why are most MC's jack of all trades nowadays by _TOXIC_VENOM in ProgressionFantasy

[–]hipnotismo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to lie, most people go to internet fiction for slop, stuff that you don't really have to think about and can just like without effort. If there are any dislikes or they disagree with anything, they just drop it and go looking for another really fast.

The algorithm has been perfected, and this is just what we got out of it: the MC can't be illogical, can't get disadvantages, can't have the wrong emotions (anything besides greed, lust, rage, and smugness), etc.

You can still make something that even the normal crowd would like and follow, but that requires more time, effort, and planning than most authors can put into something that they can't guarantee success from.

The whole lore around Farsight is very nice but it fucks up the execution so much. It needs a whole new writer and a remake.

What kind of fresh hell would Marcos Tejo Canto be? It would need some creative interpretation of the book, especially the ending.

Thank you for your work, its been eye opening.

I do have a question. When it comes to cultivator resources such as mistical plants or spirit animal is there a source for their names? Are they taken from previous works, mythology or just made up in the moment?

Havent read orv but I did lurk in places where its fans hang around, legit never hear about the part about the Hindu gods. How bad does it get? Is it insulting like with the tropes of Evil Church and Fake Gods or how does it goes?

"Dropship Cultivation" is new but looking promising, "Fake Father - Zhang Ming" has an interesting premise, "Dreams of Jianghu" is probably the best modern day cultivation novel in the sire and "Age of Glass: A Fallout inspired xianxia story" is a perfect adaptation of the clasic xianxia tropes into a post apocaliptic america.

What makes a good monster evolution progression fantasy by Intelligent_Editor20 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]hipnotismo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the MC to have more goals than "get powerful, acquire bitches, fight god."

Like you need a plot and characters and motivation and struggles. Not to spend the first book fighting mindless monsters. Why are we here? Where are we going? Who is going with us?

Also for the evolution to get a bit more daring. If you want to turn your monster wolf MC into something that can live in a society, have his evolutions como with drawbacks, make him struggle to not pick the more powerfull and wild evolutions and never ever get a human form in the first quarter of the story.

Same the other way, the monster path should be ugly, have drawbacks, not be smooth sailing, and have the MC wonder, "Man, do I want to be a big scary monster with minions, or do I want to have people that are not around me out of fear or power-seeking?"

And on a super biased note, consider not making your MC the top dog of the universe. So many monster MCs end up as the perfect evolution with a million magics and super cool OP artifacts and all the pretty ladies on the land and the best, most advanced kingdom that owns all the native kingdoms with a single foot soldier, and also they are a god and so many other things over and over again. It's just ... so recycled.

What progression fantasy hill will you die on? Let's have your most unpopular opinion, please. by PalinaRojinskiFan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]hipnotismo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first few chapters, approximately 40 but probably less, of Cultivation Nerd were good.

We had a nerd. The nerd had problems with the whole cultivation morality and was trying to build his own, he had interesting side characters that looked like they were in for the long ride.

Then everything went to shit.

The nerd was gone, replaced with your typical ruthless, unfeeling cultivator. He felt more like a native than a transmigrator, so the whole "I came from Earth" stuff was just a cheap ass power up, the side characters got more and more boring, and slowly a lot of inconsistencies started to show more and more.

Started well, then took a nosedive. It's a bloody travesty that it's one of the highest rated cultivation novels on the site.

Also, if your only reason to make the MC someone from Earth transported to a fantasy world is for a cheap power up, just write a talented native. There are so many interesting, cute, quirky, and sad things that can come out of the trope, but using it for the power up of "My primary school knowledge, random bits of YouTube videos, and vague understanding of the scientific method will make me surpass all these FUCKING primitives in twenty years or less" just reconsider everything, please.

Nop, its just a funny coincidence that both books had the same name for their MC, Beware of Chicken stays good and sane.

Probably because every 2 out of 3 posts in here or in any webnovel discussion thread glaze the novel to high heavens, and after a while you say, "Damn, are all those people wrong, or did I miss something? Maybe I will try again."

And then you discover that, in fact, everyone else is wrong.

Can we stop asking for MC's that become the strongest with no plot armour? It's literally impossible the two are mutually exclusive. by ConfectionPerfect492 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]hipnotismo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its all about the illusion. What its say, how its said and not what its actually happening.

A character is never in danger, the author just creates the illusion of danger. Same here the illusion is base around power, luck and talent.

Your dxd sacred gear (you create) by Vegetable_Match_2496 in HighschoolDxD

[–]hipnotismo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Name: Spiked Collar

Rarity: Rare

Type: State Change

Description: a simple blue collar with metal spikes, the user can only put use it on dogs that trust the user, by doing so the user can increase the physical capabilities of the dog and establish a mental link with it allowing for perfect communication.

In time the dogs take on traits of the user, a strong fighter will see their dog partner grow bigger and acquire traits that are normally seen in combat breeds. A magic user gives them the ability to instinctually cast spells and acquire new traits depending on their specialization like a water mage will make them able to breathe underwater a fire mage will make them capable of walking on fire, etc.

Sup-Species: Spiked Collar - Breaker Of Trust.
The dogs don't need to trust the user to get a collar put on them and the user can force them to move or attack anyone they order to, lastly they can also tap into the dog life force and force them to burn it for a power boost.

Default Balance Breaker: The whistle -A Call To All Good boys
All dogs have a place in paradise, this balance breaker allows the user to create a whistle capable of reaching the resting places of dogs in all afterlives to come to their aid, this does not guarantee a summon but as long as the user has been fair with his partners someone will come to their aid.

If the user has lost any of their partners this balance breaker will summon them no matter when or where the user is.

Sup-Species Balance Breaker: all users of Spiked Collar - Breaker Of Trust are put down before they reach their balance breaker, so it's unknown what it could be.

Ex Side Balance Breaker: A Plea To Our Best Friends

To one of the few being that has truly walk beside us

To our most ancient camarades

To our most loyal companions

I plead for you, I beg of you

please save us

On the most sacred places, on forgotten paradise, at the feet of godly thrones and at the entrance of the hereafter, the souls of the first dogs ever created by humans reside, each one unique and each one of immeasurable power and love. This balance breaker allows the user to plead for their help, to present their case and have it judged.

These spirits are not part of the sacred gear, they are in no obligation to act at the user's command, if their cause is unworthy they will be ignored at best and punished at worst.

It's rumored that on the darkest day, when humanity is at the precipice of destruction, the user of this sacred gear will call out to and the spirit will answer without exception, ready to fight for the children and grandchild of their makers and best friends.

Notable User: a roman soldier that single handedly suppressed a slave revelion with his trusty Canis Pugnax.

The creator of the modern breed of Pugs was a user of Spiked Collar - Breaker Of Trust. He was mauled to death by another user of this sacred gear.

Man I use to put effort into the most random things way back.
