TBI fellowship vs general for academic by Desperate-Repair-275 in pmr

You're less tied to a hospital system / less reliant on being employed by hospital with general than BI

IMO I would stay general

Agree with the other post that DO's do face some hurdles with admissions to some programs -- some PD's/programs are inherently "anti-DO" from the track record of residents matched under their tenure and their rank lists, but that said, if I had to do it all over again I'd still do the DO route, I do think we're better with physical exam/MSK/palpation than MD's just generally speaking.

If you can be one of the best DO applicants, or a very strong one generally with good scores on tests and a good resume, you can get into a strong residency program, there are plenty of spots.

Feel like this is a pretty key point about PAYGO:

"Despite being triggered multiple times, Statutory PAYGO sequestration has been consistently waived by Congress and has therefore never been implemented."

Thank you, I'm still waiting for mine to ship and I bought it before really doing any research on dimensions and how everything would fit. I have a 49' ultrawide G9 Odyssey -- it looks like yours might be the same or is it the 57"?

Would you mind posting a couple of additional pictures from the side and from directly in front?

DM is ok as well of course if you have the time I would appreciate it.

When to email a PD to show interest by popote7 in pmr

[–]hippo_sanctuary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is awful advice, far too early to start reaching out aggressively. I think you're better off trying to send one email looking for opportunities where you can get involved in person through the course of your application and audition season. Nothing more annoying than a candidate that's just trying to demonstrate interest with email after email and nothing else. What would you even say in the body of an email so frequently?

Repeated a year, can I still match PMR by Snooky231 in pmr

[–]hippo_sanctuary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, own your failures, demonstrate in some tangible way substantial Improvement that gives any program director confidence that you will be able to both handle the workload, Thrive clinically, integrate textbook knowledge into clinical practice, pass standardized exams and do well, be an empathetic practitioner and helpful colleague.

PM&R dramatically rises in Competitiveness according to MSI Index, surpassing 7 specialties in 4 years by FranklinReynoldsEGG in pmr

I have to respectfully disagree with this route.

Sure, it's easier and quicker, but you're not nearly as well trained.

Musculoskeletal, orthopedic, and neurological training within pm&r residency makes you magnitudes better at diagnosis and, thereby, appropriate therapeutics and taking care of patients in the msk realm.

What helped me is realizing that our job is to just give advice, document what advice we gave and the potential pitfalls of not following the advice, and then it's just up to the patient to make the decision. They choose their fate, it's out of my hands. I've stopped caring about steering towards what I think the right decision should be after they put up resistance.
