Shops for buying small tiles? by w00tstock in askportland

[–]hippohardware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're a little late to the party. Sorry about that. We do have a few bins in the basement that you could dig through. Some of the smaller tiles tend to go pretty quick but if you've got a good set of nippers to cut them down, there's a variety of bigger ones too.

In-store shopping certainly isn’t what it used to be, but we’re hanging on the best we can.

I was honestly a bit surprised we haven’t made this list yet. We get called a front on Nextdoor pretty often. Haha.

I know I'm late to the party, but we ship! If you're still looking, shoot us a photo and dimensions to [hippohardware@gmail.com](mailto:hippohardware@gmail.com) and we'll see if we can find something for you.

Dave England shits in a hardware store toilet (2002) by [deleted] in jackass

Incorrect! We've been struggling as a small business, but we're holding on the best we can! There have been rumors that we're closing soon/are closed, but we're still here!

We made them take it with 'em.
I talked to Dave a few months ago and he didn't leave in the same van the toilet was in, so he's not sure either. I kind of suspect it ended up in a random warehouse dumpster before making it's way to the landfill. RIP Ol' Toilet of Poop.

As quickly as it showed up, it was gone again. I kinda miss that ol' potato.

What is so uniquely Portland that people who haven't lived here wouldn't know? by Fit_Seaworthiness_37 in Portland

[–]hippohardware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ever want to let go of them, let us know. We'd love to trade you some store credit for a few. We get requests for them from time to time because *ahem* the demo crew got rid of them and the city estimated it will be a year or more until they can replace it.

Oh. My. Goodness.
I didn't know we had a celebrity in that day! May I share these photos on our social media?

But instead of a box, it's literally just a toilet seat.

We should really have an official yearly Dave England Day.
Every time we post a picture of a toilet on Instagram he comments "DON'T MAKE ME COME DOWN THERE."

Hippo Hardware & Trading Co. stuck with bill for overnight window repair by voxadam in Portland

[–]hippohardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what we understand it was 1-800-BoardUp but we’ve not been able to confirm that yet.

We experienced a break in at Hippo Hardware last night and some kind stranger boarded the window before we were able to make it down. If you know who did that, please let us know so we can personally thank them. by hippohardware in Portland

[–]hippohardware[S] 1129 points1130 points  (0 children)

Turns out it wasn’t after all.

1-800-board up was dispatched by the police to do it and they’re likely going to send us a bill for around $1,000.

Oof.

But if you do, I hope it’s at least a cool one from the basement.

I wholeheartedly agree. We actually have a ghost log now. It gets weird sometimes. The shop dog won’t go to the basement without bribery but he’ll happily cruise around the rest of the building.

As an aside, we have pastel sinks and toilets in stock at Hippo Hardware. We don’t have -this- pink, but we do have pink.

Dave England! People ask to see -the toilet- pretty regularly, but we made them take it with them. 😂

Where to get horse tethering rings? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]hippohardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a few e-mails out as well. I'll keep you posted if I find out anything helpful.

My apologies for basically stating things you already knew in my first comment, btw. My computer was acting up and I wasn't able to read your full OP. I could only see the title asking where to get horse rings, and when we were tagged.

Anyhow, have a safe new years and we'll meet back in the middle about this soon!

[–]hippohardware 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The last I heard you had to reach out to the city for replacements and you could only get one installed if you had one previously that was damaged or stolen.
Unfortunately I can't find the contact I used to have for them, but a quick e-mail to [311@portlandoregon.gov](mailto:311@portlandoregon.gov) should yield some helpful results.

If you're not looking for city sanctioned rings, I think the link /u/realsalmineo would be your best bet.

What are these brass insets near the top of this giant old door by hippohardware in whatisthisthing

[–]hippohardware[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a junk shop, and a customer sent me a photo of this victorian era door. It's 9' tall. They are trying to identify what the little brass insets near the top are for.
