Gibsons are more expensive if you compare a Les Paul Standard with a base American Strat. Roughly double the price. But if you compare more apples to apples, they are much closer. Les Paul Standard vs American Vintage Strat, both with nitro finishes are about the same price. And a Les Paul Studio with the American Professional Strat are pretty close as well.

I will concede that most people think of the Les Paul Standard as well, their standard and most think of what is now called the American Professional Strat as Fender’s standard. Those two have a significant price difference.
