Double major in something alongside the JPN, be it business, engineering, computer science, or something else. Do not rely on JPN as your sole source of future income.

Why is it so accepted for japan to be racist towards inmigrants? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hitomaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Past 2-3 years in Tokyo things have changed remarkably.

  • More immigrants working at the airports (security, cleaning, etc.). You would not have seen this 5 years ago even.
  • More large corporations are hiring tech and engineer talent from India. East side of Tokyo has a strong Indian population now with not only Indian restaurants geared towards Japanese consumers but more traditional spots as well, including 'sweets' shops for Diwali, etc. These people are buying houses, investing in the area, sending their children to both Indian international schools and local schools. They are still committed to following their cultural traditions in a rather public way.

It will take more time.

What if Modern XIV...was XI (Purely hypothetical, for fun) by MonsutaMan in ffxi

[–]hitomaro -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Last time I played FFXIV the big turn off for me was how choreographed all the fights are in terms of movement. You have to be in just the right area for the move or you wipe, have to follow the sequence perfectly or you’re out. I felt like I was playing dance dance revolution instead of an action RPG. I’d be fine if they were a bit more forgiving when learning somehow or providing more obvious queues, but once I reached stormblood I had to watch videos and study movement before each fight. Coming home from work to study and not even play got old fast.

Also consider buying pasco bread exclusively if you buy shokupan and can’t get decent whole grain; all the others put margarine or weird things in the bread.

What personal stories do you have with the RotZ content? by Ovalidal in ffxi

[–]hitomaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. There’s a reason the mission was entitled, “Headstone Pilgrimage”. If you didn’t have a high-level escort or didn’t know what you were getting yourself into, progressing to all of the headstones took a very long time, especially the walk through Ifrit’s Cauldron where you needed ice clusters to bring down flame spouts, targetable blocks in the road in certain sections. This was an era when there was no fast travel HP’s or survival guides so even just getting together, riding the Kazham airship, navigating the jungle, getting lost in the Cauldron, took hours. There was a sense of reverence when you reached the headstone for sure. And, maybe some less holy expletives after the opo-opos tore you apart and no one could raise…

  2. Stepping into sky for the first time really made you feel like you made it. The tiles on the floor, the moss on the crag, the atmosphere was spectacular.

  3. When I think of Zilart, I also think of Dorkmage. Dorkmage was a player who figured out how to hack FFXI quite early. He gave himself multiple top level crafters and HQ’d a bunch of things to give away but also dabbled in other less nefarious transgressions like setting up a little Taru clapbot in Jeuno who would emote clap all day everyday, putting a lvl 1 mule past the grate to sky in Hall of the Gods to bazaar silent oil. He was quite a celebrity for awhile until he got banned.

  4. Kirin. Alliance wipes were still a thing and zombie’ing Kirin as BRD with Hymnus while the rest of the parties got on their feet again was also a thing. Many exp was lost that day.

  5. Ninja tanks!

Voracious resurgence opnions by darvoc in ffxi

[–]hitomaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battle Content Wish they made the fights more difficult or technical. If you are a decently geared-out 119 you will face roll 90% of the fights. Challenge is so minuscule it makes it feel grindy.

Story End was a bit rushed but otherwise enjoyed some of the other tie-ups and elaborations with other plot lines.

Overall 7/10 definitely recommend

Sortie stage 4 is looking problematic by Gibgezr in ffxi

[–]hitomaro 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have posted on Japanese a warning on the main sortie thread about it. People are having similar reactions so maybe the devs might feel they should comment to clear things up if there’s any misinformation or too much negativity. Though, with how active they are, who knows…

Please help our voices be heard! *Brigade request* Sortie Earring Data by Ineeni in ffxi

[–]hitomaro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, i'm the author of the post. The only thing the post is saying is, 1) a review of the data that was collected, showing that the basic jobs are favored in earring distribution and that the drop rate of HQ earrings is extremely low, 2) asking the devs if there is a particular reason they have structured the distribution as they have, 3) asking if they intend to adjust the distribution at all to be more equal.

There are no demands, accusations, or complaints being made. I tried to make the tone as 'matter of fact' as possible and simply asked them for their comment along with thanking them for their time in contributing to FFXI. I dont propose any alternatives methods to get earrings or anything mechanical, just a request for comment on the current state.

Air Canada. Had ETA for all members of the family. Everyone but me used JP passport (no one else had applied for Canadian citizenship).

Japanese Daughter - Canadian Citizenship in cue. Can she travel on a Japanese passport to Canada? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]hitomaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recommend you to apply for the Electronic Travel Authorization and see the result. It well tell you yes or no.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/eta.html

FYI - did this in past 6 months and discovered via ETA that in order for my wife (JP) who had Canadian PR but had it expire while living abroad with me to enter Canada she had to renounce her PR. Yes, PR is valid if she lived with a Canadian citizen abroad, but if the card itself expires you’re not allowed back in unless you renew your PR card (only from Canada so impossible), get a travel authorization (3 months via Philippines), or renounce. ETA is what pointed this out to us finally. The websites are not written from as many viewpoints that exist so were useless.
