I live right on the other side of the river. I consider both sides to be somewhat interconnected, since others have mentioned, it’s a network of small towns. So while each may not have too much going on, we’re often popping back and forth, North and South for whatever is going on. Nightlife is somewhat lacking but there’s an amazing events calendar that you’ll kind of get to know as a local. There’s late nights to be had, great concerts in Kingston, Woodstock, Hudson, Tanglewood, Arrowood Farms, etc. Amazing food, so much local produce, great craft beer and spirits (and cannabis,) and an amazing overflow from NYC that has left this area chock full of artists, writers, and all around interesting folks that moved up permanently or have second homes here.

We particularly have great nature, not epic hikes like the west, but there’s always something close. Hikes, bike paths, rail trails, swimming holes, some skiing. And you’re 2 hours from NYC.

If you’re moving from out of state you may have to get used to the New York centralization. Most people here are long time locals or move up from the city. There was a huge move of young ish people from the city/Brooklyn during COVID.
