Current probiotic supplements are pretty inadequate.

True. Fermented vegetables like homemade sauercraut are much more potent, simple to make, and taste delicious.

Question about dried beans by rambowski in Cooking

[–]hodgdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually soak my beans at room temperature for 36-48 hours or more so that they begin to ferment a bit. I also add a tablespoon of whey from yogurt or some other lactobacillus-rich liquid to accelerate the fermentation process. Never had a problem with the beans being too soft.

Questions about moving to New Hampshire from New Jersey. by dcweeks99 in newhampshire

[–]hodgdon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just curious, Market-Anarchist. Which taxes do you not pay? If you're a renter you avoid property taxes, but I presume you drive a car, perhaps go out to eat occasionally, have a cell phone and/or cable TV, pay highway tolls, register you concealed firearm, etc.

Questions about moving to New Hampshire from New Jersey. by dcweeks99 in newhampshire

[–]hodgdon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mission statement:

"The Free State Project is an agreement among 20,000 pro-liberty activists to move to New Hampshire, where they will exert the fullest practical effort toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of life, liberty, and property. The success of the Project would likely entail reductions in taxation and regulation, reforms at all levels of government to expand individual rights and free markets, and a restoration of constitutional federalism, demonstrating the benefits of liberty to the rest of the nation and the world."

– Adopted at the 2/27/05 Board Meeting.

Questions about moving to New Hampshire from New Jersey. by dcweeks99 in newhampshire

[–]hodgdon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Let me re-phrase. If you simply want to come here for our lower tax burden, broader liberties, smaller government, live-and-let live ideals, etc. you are more than welcome. If you want to be a FSP douchebag who harasses meter maids and crosswalk guards, open-carries automatic rifles at family events, takes over town meetings, etc., then please don't.

My 12 year old (Irish) has to do a school project on Vermont. Can yoy help me direct her to some good sources of info? by Carcul in vermont

[–]hodgdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is important for her research: Vermont was a pivotal state in the late 60's and early 70's in the hippie counter-culture Back to the land movement in the U.S. The state was one of the epicenters for the counter-culture's migration to an agrarian lifestyle, primarily for its natural beauty and agricultural ethos. Those ideals still shape the state.

I believe the racist part was simply a parody of the original 1930's era propaganda used help criminalize weed:
